Previously...
Solving this puzzle has deposited you at the very top of the LTPF page! You look around and see a portal, presumably leading back to your house. You walk towards it-yup, you see yourself sitting in front of your computer. Apparently you're asleep, which makes sense, considering that your consciousness is currently wandering around in the LTPF site. You leap into the portal, eager to have opposable thumbs again...

...and right into the dream cloud currently hovering above your head. Sheesh. You just can't get a break, can you? Now, how to get out of this dream...

You are standing in the middle of...er, in the middle. Proceed.

Considering the 75-Month Reaping, I thought a nice LatVenture would be good to get post counts up again. I tried my best to get the title to follow the pattern set by the previous two LatVentures in this series. Completely made up as I go along. It is a dream, after all.

Er...does this puzzle have to do with a Quarter Quell now? xD Sorry, had to ask. 75th Reaping, get it?

In the middle of...the middle...of what?

Take a look around (assuming you can.) What do you see? hear? smell? taste? touch?

Take a look at yourself. Are you still a kitteh?

Kaylee, I was thinking the same thing about the Quell...

Look for anything that doesn't look consistent, like a weak spot in a force field. Wish we had some nuts in our pockets...

I hope I don't need to reread Catching Fire, I don't know whether I have a copy or just read it at the bookstore. *facepalm*

Er...does this puzzle have to do with a Quarter Quell now? xD Sorry, had to ask. 75th Reaping, get it? It does not, although that is brilliant. Wish I'd thought of that xD. But no, tributes will not be reaped from the pool of previous victors.

In the middle of...the middle...of what? It's difficult to tell. Everything keeps shifting around you.

Take a look around (assuming you can.) What do you see? You see your surroundings, which are rapidly shifting from one scene to another. hear? You can catch a few sounds here and there, but mostly silence. smell? You can't smell anything. taste? Or taste anything. touch? You reach out to try and touch the scenery, but it's flickering from one form to another too fast.

Take a look at yourself. Are you still a kitteh? You are indeed still a kitteh.

Kaylee, I was thinking the same thing about the Quell... Apparently everyone saw that but me. I just might have to incorporate it later on. This is a dream, I reserve the right to change anything I like xP.

Look for anything that doesn't look consistent, like a weak spot in a force field. Wish we had some nuts in our pockets... Now that you look, there is one spot that looks slightly more solid than the others. Being a kitteh, we do not have pockets. We also seem to have lost the Basket O' Holding.

I hope I don't need to reread Catching Fire, I don't know whether I have a copy or just read it at the bookstore. *facepalm* Don't worry, I don't *think* you'll need to reread it. Then again, I'm making this up as I go along, and things tend to go rather crazy when I do that. And I always read books at the bookstore too.

Go to the spot. Push on it with your hand. I take it from our lack of pockets and Basket O' Holding that we have no items other than the theoretical clothes on our back? Examine the spot in more detail (if there is any more detail).

Go to the spot. Push on it with your hand. I take it from our lack of pockets and Basket O' Holding that we have no items other than the theoretical clothes on our back? Well, we have teeth, claws, and possession of cuteness inherent to kittehs (list courtesy of Kaylee). Other than that, nothing. Examine the spot in more detail (if there is any more detail). You go over to the spot and push on it. You actually *can* touch it, which is a nice change. It feels smooth. Looking at the spot, you note that it seems to be cycling through a series of four or five versions of itself, rather than the seemingly thousands of the rest of the dreamscape. You can't tell what it is exactly, but you can catch the colors--the spot is turning blue, pink, green, black, white, blue...and so on.

How big is the color-changing spot? Are the blue/pink/green shades what one might describe as pastel? are they instead very dark? are they the shade one would get when coloring with the Crayola blue, pink and green? are they neon?

is the spot very hard? soft?

How big is the color-changing spot? About as big as you are. Are the blue/pink/green shades what one might describe as pastel? are they instead very dark? are they the shade one would get when coloring with the Crayola blue, pink and green? are they neon? The blue is a neon blue, the pink is pastel, and the green is a Crayola green.

is the spot very hard? soft? The spot is firm, but not extremely hard.

"Crayola green"...

That's "Green", and not:
- "Green Yellow"
- "Spring Green"
- "Olive Green"
- "Yellow Green"
- "Inch Worm"
- "Asparagus"
- "Granny Smith Apple"
- "Electric Lime"
- "Screamin Green"
- "Fern"
- "Forest Green"
- "Sea Green"
- "Mountain Meadow"
- "Shamrock"
- "Jungle Green"
- "Caribbean Green"
- "Tropical Rainforest"
- "Pine Green"

I always wanted one of those giant 120-crayon crayola sets when I was little ;-)

Anyway, I suppose I should do something now I'm here to justify that silly question, so...

...try to walk through the spot when it's pink.

Correct, it's just a normal green. However, you may color me impressed by the extensive list of greens.

...try to walk through the spot when it's pink. You attempt to walk through the spot. Though you are unable to do so, as soon as your body lines up with the pink spot, your surroundings stop changing and solidify into a single room.

Look around the single room. What can you see? You see four walls, all the same shade of pastel pink as the spot. There is also a white door. A large rock is sitting on the floor. hear? You can't hear anything... smell? ...or smell anything. touch? The walls and door are smooth, the rock is fairly rough. taste? You don't see anything you'd like to taste... if there is anything for tasting, I hope it is cheezburger =) ...however, as this thought enters your mind, a cheezburger appears in the room. Strange...

examine the walls more closely, then the door. Can you tell what they are made of? are they painted? Covered with anything?

Examine the rock. Can you tell what kind of rock it is? Is it made of a single element? Multiple? What color is it?

Taste the cheezburger. =) Is it beef? Turkey? Something else? What sort of cheese is on it? Other condiments? What kind of bun does it have (if any, or is it one of those horrible bunless burgers?)

examine the walls more closely, then the door. Can you tell what they are made of? The door seems to be made of wood, while the walls appear to be-er, whatever walls are normally made of. are they painted? Covered with anything? Both the door and walls are painted.

Examine the rock. Can you tell what kind of rock it is? Is it made of a single element? Multiple? What color is it? The rock is a fairly even gray. You can't really tell what kind of rock it is, but it seems to be fairly average. It's about two and a half times taller than you are.

Taste the cheezburger. =) Yum. Is it beef? Turkey? Something else? It's a beef cheezburger. What sort of cheese is on it? American. Other condiments? It had ketchup on it. What kind of bun does it have (if any, or is it one of those horrible bunless burgers?) It has a normal cheezburger bun.

Can you climb the rock? If so, see what is on top, or if you can see anything of interest from up there.

Try the door, while you're at it.

What is the average airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow? African or European?

What color is the smoke? White. Does it look safe to breathe? Well, you've been breathing it and all it seems to be doing is make you cough a bit. (If not, think about a gas mask and put it one if it appears.) Attempt to go through the doorway and see what lies beyond it. You take a few steps forward-and bump into a wall. Ouch. Stepping to the sides, however, allows you to go around the wall.

Very good. :-D
What is the former möbius strip made of?
If it is something edible, eat it
If gold, silver or other valueable material, try to find someone to sell it to.
Is there any writing on it? If so, please try to read it.

Is it still difficult to see the surroundings?
If so, think of a set of infrared night vision goggles, wear them, and see if that helps.
If so, please describe the surroundings.
If not, walk cautiously around a bit, feeling the way with hands and feet.

Very good. :-D
What is the former möbius strip made of? It seems to be made of some sort of shimmery, translucent material. You highly suspect that the material may only exist in dreams.
If it is something edible, eat it You bite it. It tastes terrible.
If gold, silver or other valueable material, try to find someone to sell it to. You're not sure if it's valuable or not. However, seeing as you're the only person in your visible surroundings, you doubt you would be able to sell it to someone anyways.
Is there any writing on it? If so, please try to read it. There is no writing on the former möbius strip.

Is it still difficult to see the surroundings? There's still plenty of smoke, yes.
If so, think of a set of infrared night vision goggles, wear them, and see if that helps. Some appear. You put them on, however, seeing as the room is not dark, but instead incredibly smokey, they don't really help. They do keep the smoke away from your eyes, which is nice.
If so, please describe the surroundings. Still smokey.
If not, walk cautiously around a bit, feeling the way with hands and feet. You cautiously explore the room. You bump into one additional thing in the center of the room. It's a rather odd shape, and is about as tall as you are. You can feel your fur getting blown about a bit when you stand next to it. Aside from the odd thing, and the wall in front of the door, there don't seem to be any other unusual things in the room.

Think of a table and a Mirror.
Look in the Mirror and see what you saw.
Take the saw and saw the table into two halves.
The halves make a (w)hole. Exit through the hole.

If this doesn't work (but of COURSE it works, it is SO logical), think of a vacuum cleaner with a smoke filter, and of a live electric outlet. Plug in the vacuum cleaner, switch it on and let it run for a while.

(Btw, the edit Field of the web page seems to capitalise random Words (such as "Field"). Do other People here experience the same thing?)

Think of a table and a Mirror. You do so. They appear.
Look in the Mirror and see what you saw. You do so.
Take the saw and saw the table into two halves. Here your brilliant plan ceases to work, as your kitteh paws are unable to use the saw on the table.
The halves make a (w)hole. Exit through the hole. However, if you had been able to saw through the table, you're pretty sure this part would work thanks to dream logic.

If this doesn't work (but of COURSE it works, it is SO logical Oh, yes, very logical.), think of a vacuum cleaner with a smoke filter, and of a live electric outlet. Plug in the vacuum cleaner, switch it on and let it run for a while. Slowly, the room clears. The odd thing in the middle of the room is revealed to be the thing actually making the smoke. Your vacuum cleaner is able to keep up with it, but only barely. You should probably shut it down.
Also, the wall in front of the door in here seems to have vanish-
OW. Okay, no, it hasn't, it's actually just an invisible force field.

(Btw, the edit Field of the web page seems to capitalise random Words (such as "Field"). Do other People here experience the same thing?) I'm not having any problems, on either computer I use. Do the capital letters show up in the 'Preview: New Message' area but not in the 'Post' box? Honestly, I have no idea what could be going on.

Describe the thing making the smoke. Is it a policeman? ("Smokey and the bandit")
Anyway, tell it to stop smoking, as it is bad for its health, and also politically incorrect.
Move the mirror into the force field to try to make it turn back on itself or something.
Look around one last time to see if there are other interesting things worth mentioning, before turning off the vacuum cleaner.

Describe the thing making the smoke. It seems to be roughly rectangular, with pieces sticking out here and there. On the side facing the door is an arrangement of gears and bands, all rotating. Is it a policeman? It is not. ("Smokey and the bandit")
Anyway, tell it to stop smoking, as it is bad for its health, and also politically incorrect. It doesn't seem to care, and continues producing smoke.
Move the mirror into the force field to try to make it turn back on itself or something. You try. Nothing happens. It's essentially just a wall, only invisible.
Look around one last time to see if there are other interesting things worth mentioning, before turning off the vacuum cleaner. Now that you're looking more closely, you see that the whatever-it-is making the smoke seems to be sitting on some sort of trapdoor. You turn off the vacuum cleaner, and the room fills with smoke again, almost instantly.

Can we call the smoke-making thing "the patso"?
Supposing a "yes", feel around the patso for any levers, buttons or other movable parts that might influence its workings.
Investigate the trapdoor in the same way.

Oh, and are kitteh paws better suited to cutting möbius strips with scissors than to cutting tables with saws?

Think of an alarm clock. Set it to ring one minute after the present. Wait for one minute.

Can we call the smoke-making thing "the patso"? We certainly can.
Supposing a "yes", feel around the patso for any levers, buttons or other movable parts that might influence its workings. You don't see anything. Besides the gears, which are of course rotating. Looking closer at them, you see that there's one in the corner that isn't actually turning.
Investigate the trapdoor in the same way. Unfortunately, there seems to be no way of opening the trapdoor.

Oh, and are kitteh paws better suited to cutting möbius strips with scissors than to cutting tables with saws? Apparently, yes.

Think of an alarm clock. Thought of. Set it to ring one minute after the present. Set. Wait for one minute. Unfortunately, since this is a dream, it is always the present, and never reaches one minute after. Actually, now that you think about it, this applies to real life as well, however, you never see any alarm clocks that can be set to 'one minute after the present' in real life, and thus, all alarms go off eventually.

Philosophical today, are we :-)
OK, set the alarm clock to 12:00 (i.e. not the alarm of the alarm clock, but the hands that show the time). Then set the alarm to 12:01. Wait for one minute.

If we are still inside the dream, inspect the non-rotating gear and its surroundings. Does it look like there is a malfunctioning that causes it not to turn? Can it be moved laterally on its axle in order to mesh with other gears?

If this does not yield any interesting developments, think of a chisel. Put it into the patso's rotating gears so as to jam them.

OK, set the alarm clock to 12:00 (i.e. not the alarm of the alarm clock, but the hands that show the time). Then set the alarm to 12:01. Wait for one minute. You do so. However, your surroundings become very fuzzy for a moment, and when they clear up, you see that the time has set itself to three after cake and that the alarm has been set to seven after eternity. Apparently clocks and dreams do not mix well. At all.

If we are still inside the dream, inspect the non-rotating gear and its surroundings. Does it look like there is a malfunctioning that causes it not to turn? Not that you can tell, just looks like it hasn't been connected to any other gears. Can it be moved laterally on its axle in order to mesh with other gears? It cannot.

If this does not yield any interesting developments, think of a chisel. You do so. One appears. Put it into the patso's rotating gears so as to jam them. They are jammed, however, the patso continues to produce smoke, though the smoke is now thick, black, and makes you cough a lot and your throat sting.

Hope that things get back to normal. The room does indeed return to its usual status of 'filled with white smoke'.

Look up "patso". Unfortunately, there is no entry for "patso".
Read entry. As such, you cannot read the entry.
Try to turn the non-rotating gear manually. You're able to, but it's a bit difficult and slow. However, the flow of smoke coming from the patso does seem to decrease slightly.

Why is there no entry for "patso"? An eerie artefact like that certainly needs to be explained.
Turn the gear some more, and see if we can reduce the smoke even further.
Jump onto the top of the patso and admire the view.
Is it possible to turn back and leave the room?

Turn the gear some more, and see if we can reduce the smoke even further. My apologies, it's only when you're turning the gear that the smoke decreases. When you stop turning it, the production goes back to its normal rate. Sorry for any misunderstandings.
Jump onto the top of the patso and admire the view. You jump onto the top of the patso and are treated to the most beautiful view of a room ful of smoke that you have ever seen.
Is it possible to turn back and leave the room? It is indeed possible.

Does it look like a part of the patso - such as a gear - is missing?
That the gear that has to be moved manually is intended to mesh directly or indirectly with the other gears?
Look and/or feel as best we can around the floor for any missing parts.
If we find nothing, and if it looks like a part is missing, think of an appropriate part (another gear, probably?) and put it into place.

Look and/or feel as best we can around the floor for any missing parts. You can't feel/see any.
If we find nothing, and if it looks like a part is missing, think of an appropriate part (another gear, probably?) and put it into place. You think of a band to connect two of the gears. One appears, and you put it in place. As the gear turns, the flow of smoke from the patso decreases until it stops entirely. The remaining smoke pulls itself into a sort of door shape, while the trapdoor under the patso opens and the patso tumbles down a staircase that was beneath the trapdoor.
Looks like there's two ways to go-down or forward.

Can I get up and walk around? If so, take a tour of the room. Check that all the mirrors are actually mirrors, and not windows into a mirror-image room on the other side. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_Dtsx-VGG0)
Does a closer inspection of the room yield more information than given in your previous post?

That's okay. All klein bottles have zero volume.

I was thoughtless enough not to specify the colour of the spray paint. I wanted black. But it seems I got red, is that correct?
Walk around the room until we are sure that we have covered every square centimetre with our body's area (as seen from above) at least once.
Do we bump into anything?
If not, do it again, this time getting up on our hind legs and waving our front paws in the air as high as possible for every half metre. Do we touch anything now?

Do we bump into anything? You bump into something that is perfectly clear. By feeling it, you determine that the thing is a cube, about half as tall as you are. Exploring further, you find a couple more boxy shapes. One is as tall as you are, and the other is about as tall as you plus the first cube.
If not, do it again, this time getting up on our hind legs and waving our front paws in the air as high as possible for every half metre. Do we touch anything now? You just brush the bottom of some other clear thing.

Can we move (push) the things around?
If so, build a staircase by placing the items side-by-side with the lowest one at one end and the tallest one at the other. Build it at a place so as to maximise the chance of being able to investigate the clear thing of which we touched the bottom.

Think of two identical baskets, one (A) containing infinitely many ping-pong balls, and one (B) empty basket. The balls should be numbered continuously from 0 upward towards infinity. Take half a minute to take the ten balls numbered 0...9 from basket A and throw them into basket B. Then take the ball numbered 0 out from basket B again and throw it away. Now use 15 seconds to take balls 10..19 and throw them into basket B. Take the ball numbered 1 out of basket B and throw it away. Then take 7.5 seconds for balls 20...29 and throw away ball no. 2. Continue in this fashion until one minute has passed. Count the balls in basket B. How many are there?

Also, spray paint any edges you can feel on the staircase, in case we need to use it later. You think up a more paw-friendly design for a spray paint can and spray the edges of the staircase on your way up. It leads to a door hanging upside down on the ceiling. Though, since gravity reversed when you entered this room, it's probably actually right-side-up on the floor.

That doesn't make sense. Basket B should be empty. We must have done someting wrong. Pick out a random ball from basket B and read its number.

Can we open the door? If so, do that, then put one paw tentatively through it and try to feel which way gravity works on the other side.

I read your instructions too quickly and thought we were taking the first of every set out and throwing it away (ball 0, ball 10, ball 20, etc).

Can we open the door? We can indeed. If so, do that, then put one paw tentatively through it and try to feel which way gravity works on the other side. It feels like you'd step through and gravity would reverse again.

Inspect the other contraptions.
Walk around the room and examine it. Is it possible to go back up?
Are there other exits?
Is there anything remarkable about the floor, the walls and/or the ceiling?

Inspect the other contraptions. One seems to be producing a chocolate bar every few seconds, while the other doesn't seem to be doing anything.
Walk around the room and examine it. Is it possible to go back up? It is indeed.
Are there other exits? Not that you can see.
Is there anything remarkable about the floor, the walls and/or the ceiling? The ceiling has a large question mark painted on it, but the walls and floor are unremarkable.
It's a nice feature of this puzzle that we can just wish things into existence. Can we wish things away too? Try to wish away the scissors. The scissors obligingly disappear.

Ok, let's call the chocolate-bar-producing machine "the bugler", and the other machine "the hax".
See if there is a receptable for chocolate bars in/on the hax.
Eat one of the chocolate bars. Is it good? If it is, eat one more.
Is it possible to climb any of the machines?
Stack them so as to climb to the ceiling?
Try to push the different machines around, to reveal the floor under them. Does anything interesting turn up?
How many chocolate bars are presently in the room?
Are they wrapped in anything? Or just "naked"?
Are there any buttons, levers or other interesting features on either of the bugler and/or the hax?
Can they be connected to each other in any way?
Try hard not to think of a big, ferocious, cat-hating dog.

Ok, let's call the chocolate-bar-producing machine "the bugler", and the other machine "the hax". OK.
See if there is a receptable for chocolate bars in/on the hax. There isn't one, they're just sort of spilling onto the floor.
Eat one of the chocolate bars. Is it good? If it is, eat one more. You unwrap and eat one. It is white chocolate, fortunately, and tastes delicious.
Is it possible to climb any of the machines? It is indeed possible to climb them.
Stack them so as to climb to the ceiling? They appear to be bolted to the ground.
Try to push the different machines around, to reveal the floor under them. Does anything interesting turn up? As they're bolted to the ground, you can't push them.
How many chocolate bars are presently in the room? You'd guess twenty or so.
Are they wrapped in anything? Or just "naked"? They're wrapped.
Are there any buttons, levers or other interesting features on either of the bugler and/or the hax? The bugler has a few buttons on the side, while the hax has a very large 'ON' switch.
Can they be connected to each other in any way? Doesn't seem so.
Try hard not to think of a big, ferocious, cat-hating dog. You're pretty sure that even if you did accidentally happen to think of a big, ferocious, cat-hating dog, you would be able to climb onto either the bugler or the hax and get out of its reach while you vanished it.

Take a good look at the buttons on the bugler. Does it look safe to push them? Are they labeled? if so, what do the labes say?
Climb each machine. Admire the view, and pay special attention to anything that might not be visible from the ground. Can the ceiling be reached? Is there any further information to be gleaned from the question mark?
If the bugler produces a chocolate bar every few seconds, it is strange that there are only about twenty present. Could the (untimely?) arrival of the patso have started it?
Muster all available courage and press the ON switch of the hax.

Take a good look at the buttons on the bugler. Does it look safe to push them? Well, none of them look particularly threatening, besides the really big red one with an explosion painted on it. Are they labeled? Yes. if so, what do the labels say? Well, as mentioned before, one is large and red and has an explosion painted on it. There are five others: a black one, labeled 'dark chocolate', a light brown one, labeled 'milk chocolate', a white one, labeled 'white chocolate', and two gray ones, one labeled 'increase speed' and the other 'decrease speed'. The white one is currently pressed.
Climb each machine. You do so. Admire the view, and pay special attention to anything that might not be visible from the ground. You see several small nooks in the wall that weren't visible from ground level. Can the ceiling be reached? No. Is there any further information to be gleaned from the question mark? Looks like there's something written in a slightly darker shade of red on it, but you'd need to get closer to see what it reads.
If the bugler produces a chocolate bar every few seconds, it is strange that there are only about twenty present. Could the (untimely?) arrival of the patso have started it? That's certainly possible.
Muster all available courage and press the ON switch of the hax. The hax begins sucking in the white chocolate bars and producing white chocolate-chip cookies at an alarming rate.

Can the hax be stopped by re-pushing the "On"-button? If so, do so.
Think of a styrofoam block, shaped as a staircase, light enough to move, tall enough to reach just below the ceiling and strong enough to support our weight. Move it under the question mark, climb it, and read the text.
Try the brown and black buttons on the bugler. If results are as expected, taste the milk and dark chocolate.
Move the styrofoam block around to the various nooks in the wall and inspect each one. Is there anything interesting to be had and/or learned?

Can the hax be stopped by re-pushing the "On"-button? If so, do so. You push the "on" button again and it stops.
Think of a styrofoam block, shaped as a staircase, light enough to move, tall enough to reach just below the ceiling and strong enough to support our weight. Move it under the question mark, climb it, and read the text. You do so. The text reads "if the answer is the question, the question is the answer." How incredibly helpful.
Try the brown and black buttons on the bugler. The bugler starts producing milk and dark chocolate, respectively. If results are as expected, taste the milk and dark chocolate. It tastes delicious as well. Fortunately, chocolate doesn't seem to be toxic to cats in dreams.
Move the styrofoam block around to the various nooks in the wall and inspect each one. Is there anything interesting to be had and/or learned? The nooks are currently empty and therefore contain nothing interesting. They are approximately the same size as the chocolate bars the bugler produces.

Answer the question. (Or, to make it clearer, answer "the question").
Try to fill in the nooks with chocolate bars.
Think of a pair of earplugs. Put them in our ears.
Try the explosion button.

Answer the question. (Or, to make it clearer, answer "the question"). You do so. This makes the question mark distort and stretch until it looks more like a red fish. A herring, to be precise.
Try to fill in the nooks with chocolate bars. The chocolate bars fit perfectly into the nooks, but nothing happens.
Think of a pair of earplugs. Put them in our ears. You do so.
Try the explosion button. You push the explosion button. The floor dissolves into dust, which is quickly sucked away through some unseen vent. The new floor has a pattern of large rectangles on it.

Are the rectangles colored (as opposed to black and white)? Is the pattern simply the same shape(s) repeated over and over? or is there some variation that might encode a message?

By the way, when you placed the chocolate bars into the nooks, did you use all the same type of chocolate? or did you use different types?

Are any of the rectangles raised or recessed into the floor (in a manner that suggests they might be a separate piece)?

[A little disappointed by this answer. The proper answer should be "Huh? I can't hear you"]
Remove the earplugs.
Inspect the rectangles. Size? Colour? Material? All alike? All different? All different except one?
Are all the machines still there? Still bolted to the floor?
Remove the part from the patso that was inserted earlier. Does the room fill up with smoke as previously experienced? Put it back again anyway.

Are the rectangles colored (as opposed to black and white)? They are indeed colored. Is the pattern simply the same shape(s) repeated over and over? or is there some variation that might encode a message? The pattern is merely the colors repeating over and over again, in the order red, green, blue.

By the way, when you placed the chocolate bars into the nooks, did you use all the same type of chocolate? or did you use different types? You used all dark chocolate, as that was what the bugler was producing at the time.

Are any of the rectangles raised or recessed into the floor (in a manner that suggests they might be a separate piece)? The rectangles beneath the nooks are indeed slightly raised, though it doesn't look like they might be a separate piece.

You push the explosion button. The floor dissolves into dust, which is quickly sucked away through some unseen vent. The new floor has a pattern of large rectangles on it.
[A little disappointed by this answer. The proper answer should be "Huh? I can't hear you"] Err...the earplugs were special fairy earplugs that only sealed up once the noise reached an unsafe level, as in Artemis Fowl: The Eternity Code.
Remove the earplugs. Huh? I can't hear you! The earplugs have sealed up! :P
Inspect the rectangles. Size? About as wide as you and twice as long. Colour? Red, blue, and green. Material? You aren't sure. Feels smooth, though. All alike? All different? All different except one? Most of them are the same (apart from the color), though the ones beneath the nooks are slightly raised, as mentioned before.
Are all the machines still there? Indeed. Still bolted to the floor? Yep.
Remove the part from the patso that was inserted earlier. You do so. Does the room fill up with smoke as previously experienced? No, it must've been turned off when it fell down the stairs. Put it back again anyway. You do so.

Hmm... Are we in fact standing on a huge TV screen?
Make the bugler produce some white and milk chocolates, try these in the nooks instead.
Jump a bit up and down on the raised tiles.
About as wide as you and twice as long Twice as long as they are wide, or twice as long as me?
Push the "slow" button on the bugler.
Eat a chocolate chip cookie. Is it good?

Hmm... Are we in fact standing on a huge TV screen? No, and just to clarify, when I say that the colors repeat, I mean that the rectangles stay a single color and are on the floor in the order red, green, blue.
Make the bugler produce some white and milk chocolates, try these in the nooks instead. These fit as well, but nothing seems to happen.
Jump a bit up and down on the raised tiles. Nothing happens.
About as wide as you and twice as long Twice as long as they are wide, or twice as long as me? Either, since as they are as wide as you are long, it's the same either way. Like if I'd said they were 'as wide as a ruler and twice as long', then they'd be about a foot wide and about two feet long. Does that make more sense?
Push the "slow" button on the bugler. The production of chocolate slows down to about one a minute.
Eat a chocolate chip cookie. Is it good? It is very good.

Um, you said that they are "about as wide as you". That would indicate that their width is roughly equal to my width, not my length.
Switch on the hax again. With the bugler producing at a slow speed, I suppose the hax can only produce cookies at an "alarming" rate until those chocolates that have already been produced are used up, and then it will have to reduce its production speed?
Does it suck in even the chocolates in the nooks?
Are any crannies visible?

Um, you said that they are "about as wide as you". That would indicate that their width is roughly equal to my width, not my length. Oh, my apologies. OK, so the tiles are twice as wide as they are long, and they are as wide as you are long.
Switch on the hax again. With the bugler producing at a slow speed, I suppose the hax can only produce cookies at an "alarming" rate until those chocolates that have already been produced are used up, and then it will have to reduce its production speed? This is indeed precisely what happens.
Does it suck in even the chocolates in the nooks? It does indeed.
Are any crannies visible? You do not see any crannies.
Though, according to the official definitions, 'cranny' would probably be a more appropriate name for the holes in the walls.

Have you ever (in the time since the colored rectangles appeared) tried standing with one foot on one color and one on another? or even, for that matter, moving from one color rectangle to the other? If you haven't, try both of those and see if anything changes about the room (the mark on the ceiling, the behavior of the bugler and the hax, etc.)

And speaking of which, aren't you still a kitteh? Does this mean you have four paws that can potentially each be on a different rectangle?

A
RECAT

by kayleekitteh's request.
We are currently in a room with three machines.
One, deemed the patso, was originally in a different room and produced smoke. Turning it off led to a trapdoor opening and the entrance to this room being revealed. The patso is not currently producing smoke.
Another, called the hax, can suck in chocolate bars from the bugler and produce delicious chocolate chip cookies at a very fast rate.
The last, named the bugler, produces brightly wrapped chocolates that can be dark, milk, or white, depending on the type selected. The speed can also be increased or decreased. It also had a button with an explosion on it. Pushing the button caused the floor to disintegrate and reveal another floor, this one covered in colored rectangles in the pattern red, green, blue.
There is currently a large red herring on the ceiling.
There are also several nooks/crannies in the walls. The tiles directly beneath the nooks/crannies are slightly raised.
We also have access to a few other rooms:
The starting room, which was pastel pink with a white door and a large rock in the middle, and which also contains a few coconuts.
The second room, which previously contained the patso, has an invisible force field a few feet in front of the door to the starting room, and leads to two other rooms. There are also two alarm clocks, one with the alarm set for one minute after the present, and the other set for seven after eternity.
The mirror room, which can be accessed by going through a door made of smoke in the second room and is made entirely of mirrors with a staircase leading to the door, as gravity reverses as soon as you enter it. There are also two baskets in there, containing large quantities of ping-pong balls and a klein bottle.
The current room, which was described above.
I was not aware that we had done so much in the pawzle. That was more typing than I expected. Whew.

I know that red herrings are usually just that - but perhaps this one is special? Take a good look at it anyway.
Try to push the explosion button again.
Turn the patso right side up.
Inspect the patso and try to find out why it is not running, and if it is possible to restart it.
Look at the rised tiles. How much raised are they?
Does it look like they are cast or hewn so as to be permanently raised, or does it look like they are able to move up and down?

Red herring: A fish? A distraction? Red Herring, from A Pup Named Scooby-Doo? *tries to imagine Red Herring on the ceiling and collapses in laughter*

Use the bugler to produce some more chocolate of each sort. See if there is any way it can produce chocolate of two kinds swirled together. Then use the hax to make cookies with them. Can the hax make It's Its? (Ice cream sandwiches with ice cream stuck between two chocolate chip cookies)

I know that red herrings are usually just that - but perhaps this one is special? Take a good look at it anyway. You take a closer look, but don't see anything extraordinary about it.
Try to push the explosion button again. Nothing happens.
Turn the patso right side up. You do so.
Inspect the patso and try to find out why it is not running, and if it is possible to restart it. You're pretty sure that by fixing the gears, you've turned off the smoke permanently.
Look at the rised tiles. How much raised are they? An inch or two.
Does it look like they are cast or hewn so as to be permanently raised, or does it look like they are able to move up and down? It looks as though they are to be permanently raised.

Red herring: A fish? It looks like this... A distraction? ...and is quite probably this as well. Red Herring, from A Pup Named Scooby-Doo? *tries to imagine Red Herring on the ceiling and collapses in laughter* No, there is not currently a boy with red, curly hair stuck to the ceiling. Though that certainly would be amusing.

What is visible through the windows? You see some beautiful grassy fields. There are also several trees, growing what appears to be cheezburgurz.

Think of a small wooden box divided into 10 compartments. Also think of 11 marbles. Put the marbles into the box so that each compartment holds a single marble, and every marble resides in its own compartment. You do so. Oh, wait, one of them flew out of the box and landed over here. You put it back in an-oh, oops, it catapulted out of the box again. You try agai-and this time it hits you in the head. You get the hint and leave the box alone.
Check the windows version. Etched onto the bottom of one of the windows is "version 0.1134

Put 2 marbles temporarily in the first compartment. Then put the 3rd marble in the 2nd compartment, the 4th marble in the 3rd compartment and so on up to the 10th marble which goes into the 9th compartment. Now move the 11th marble from the 1st to the 10th compartment. Voilà.

Is it possible to open any of the windows? Are any important details visible on closer inspection of the fields, the trees or their fruit? Can we still return through the door where we came into the room? Do we see fields and trees through the wall with the door, too? What do we see through the ceiling? The floor? Are the buttons still available for pushing? If the windows cannot be opened just like that, think of a hammer. Try to smash one of the windows. If not possible, think of a sledgehammer and try the same thing. If that doesn't work either, think of a plastic bottle containing hydrated hydrofluoric acid and apply that to one of the windows.

Voilà. You do so, only to see another marble on the floor. Ah, you see the problem: Marbles 1 and 2 go in compartment 1, then marbles 3-10 in compartments 2-9, and then you renamed marble 1 to marble 11 and stick it in compartment 10. You never even touched the real eleventh marble.

Is it possible to open any of the windows? Not that you can tell. Are any important details visible on closer inspection of the fields, the trees or their fruit? Closer inspection reveals a distant lake, shining blue in the distance. However, something seems...off about it, somehow. Can we still return through the door where we came into the room? You can indeed, as it was on the previously-ceiling/currently-floor to begin with. Do we see fields and trees through the wall with the door, too? We do indeed. What do we see through the ceiling? Assuming you mean the surface above your head, you see a bright blue sky. The floor? The floor, assuming you mean the surface beneath your paws, seems to be inset into the ground and is black due to lack of light. Are the buttons still available for pushing? They have indeed stayed in the exact same place relative to you. Somehow. If the windows cannot be opened just like that, think of a hammer. Try to smash one of the windows. The instant the hammer comes within three inches of window, it bounces off some sort of invisible force field. If not possible, think of a sledgehammer and try the same thing. The sledgehammer bounces off the same force field. If that doesn't work either, think of a plastic bottle containing hydrated hydrofluoric acid and apply that to one of the windows. It pours down the same force field. Curious, you wave a paw at the force field. It's as though it isn't even there.

"You never even touched the real eleventh marble."
I suppose I should have known better than to think you would fall for that. It would have been wonderful if it had worked, though. Think what impact it would have had on the world's housing problems!

Take a good look at the lake.
Go through the door.

Take a good look at the lake. You can't get much closer, as the window is in the way, but you can just make out splashes and ripples from something moving in the lake.
Go through the door. The door leads out to a beautiful green field with trees and a lake off in the distance. In other words, the view from the windows.

Look at what kind of building or structure the door is set in.
Walk over to the lake and have a closer look.
Walk around and investigate the surroundings in general. Does there seem to be any kind of restraint with respect to where or how far we can move?

Look at what kind of building or structure the door is set in. It...isn't. It's just standing there in the middle of the field. Weird.
Walk over to the lake and have a closer look. Upon closer inspection, the things moving around in the lake appear to be various...body parts. Okay then.... The lake is also giving you this really weird feeling and has some sort of weird mist coming off its surface.
Walk around and investigate the surroundings in general. Does there seem to be any kind of restraint with respect to where or how far we can move? It doesn't seem so.

Take stock of the body parts.
Is it possible to fish them out of the water?
Do they seem to make up an entire human body?
If so, try to putting them in their appropriate places with respect to each other and see if anything interesting happens.
Smell the mist.
Take a bath in the lake.
Go back to the door, open it and see if it still leads back to the windows room, but don't go through it.
Now go around to the other side of the door and look through it "from behind" as it were. What do we see?
Did we discover anything else interesting on our inspection of the surroundings?
Lie down. Go to sleep.

Take stock of the body parts. They seem to be mostly hands and hearts.
Is it possible to fish them out of the water? You think up a fishing net and try to catch a hand. It grows a mouth and bites off the end of the net. Okay then...
Do they seem to make up an entire human body? No.
If so, try to putting them in their appropriate places with respect to each other and see if anything interesting happens.
Smell the mist. It smells unearthly and not-quite-right.
Take a bath in the lake. You dip a paw in the water. OW, IT BURNS.
Go back to the door, open it and see if it still leads back to the windows room, but don't go through it. It does.
Now go around to the other side of the door and look through it "from behind" as it were. What do we see? A room that is most definitely not the mirror/window room.
Did we discover anything else interesting on our inspection of the surroundings? Not really.
Lie down. Go to sleep. You try, but you can't quite manage.

Lie down. Go to sleep. You try, but you can't quite manage. What!!!??? I'm a cat, for crying out loud!

Is the burning sensation heat-like or acid-like?
Take another sniff and try to figure out what the not-quite-right impression stems from.
So, go through the door from behind, then.

Take another sniff and try to figure out what the not-quite-right impression stems from. It just...does. You can't figure out the cause.
So, go through the door from behind, then. You go through the door from behind, and walk into a scene straight from a M.C. Escher painting.

Which M.C. Escher painting? "Relativity", or, as I thought of it before looking up the actual name, "that one with all the stairs"

Can we get "up" to the railing against which a figure is standing, leaning slightly over it? If so, go there and jump over the railing. It looks like a pretty long fall. Falls from great heights in dreams usually results in the dreamer waking up.

You mean like this? http://www.andrewlipson.com/escher/relativity.html Indeed like that. Only with fewer Legos.

Can we get "up" to the railing against which a figure is standing, leaning slightly over it? If so, go there and jump over the railing. It looks like a pretty long fall. Falls from great heights in dreams usually results in the dreamer waking up. With a bit of scrambling, you reach that railing. You jump over, and start falling.
And falling.
And falling.
And falling.
Gradually, you notice your surroundings change from stairs and landings to cabinets and bookshelves and things of that sort. You finally land, just in time to see a white rabbit dash through a door. Well, perhaps you can find an alarm clock that works in dreams in Wonderland.
This can be the last leg of the journey, or we can keep exploring for as long as you like. How much longer would you guys like to keep going?
