Why would members of the United States Naval Academy publicly mention that their lives were pledged to another nation without anyone (reasonably) accusing or suspecting them of treason? |

The SCA is the Society for Creative Anachronism, a historical re-enactment group that has divisions worldwide, split into "Kingdoms" which are further split into smaller and smaller divisions - for example, the Kingdom of the West is further divided into the Principality of Cynagua (Northern Central Valley & Sierras of California & the Northwest portion of Nevada), Principality of the Mists (Greater San Francisco & Monterey Bay areas in California), Principality of Oertha (The geographic area of the state of Alaska), and the Marches (Portions of Northern California & Central California, Japan, Guam & Korea). Each sub-section of a Kingdom is further divided into Shires, Cantons, Provinces, and Baronies: the Principality of the Mists includes the Shire of Caldarium (Marin County, CA), the Shire of Cloondara (San Francisco, CA), Shire of Crosston (Northwest Santa Clara County, CA), Barony of Darkwood (South Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Benito & Monterey Counties, California), Canton of Caer Darth (Santa Cruz, California), Canton of Hawk's Haven (South Santa Clara & San Benito Counties, California), and so on. The Province of Southern Shores is Central Santa Clara County, CA, and therein do I reside, within the fair city of San Jose =) Their Highnesses Prince Bjarnheđinn and Princess Dyrfinna,of the Principality of the Mists, will reign over us wisely and well - at least until the next tourney to vie for the crown =) |

So they're singing that their lives are pledged to some nation? Is it part of a national anthem? God save the queen/king? |
