By Sam Greene (Pandora) on Wednesday, April 06, 2005 - 10:21 am: do you have lucky pen you use to fill out the tickets? do you have a gemstone which is associated with bringing good fortune? No to these but OTRT By (Stuccosalt) on Wednesday, April 06, 2005 - 07:41 pm: At what point did you decide to buy five: - Before entering the store? - Before buying the tickets? - As you asked for the tickets? - As you paid for the tickets? This one and good question! - After you bought the orignial two tickets? |

Do you consider it lucky to pay the exact amount for your lottery tickets, and only had a £5 note rather than a £2 coin? |

Hmm, Your Husband lent you a £5 note to buy a couple of Lottery tickets. You got to the shop, and realised that they were £1 a ticket. You perhaps find it unlucky to break something, and hence you don't particularly wish to break a £5 note in order to buy 2 Lottery tickets, so of course, you don't! |

No - and there were no £5 notes involved, if there had been maybe I wouldn't have had this problem! |

Is any of this true ... Husband says "use the money from my wallet to buy some lottery tickets"? You think there is £2 in the wallet, so expect to buy 2 tickets? As you pay, you discover a secret compartment in the wallet with £3 in, so you buy 3 extra tickets? Thereby incurring the wrath of your husband for spending his "lucky £3" which he had been carrying around in the wallet for the last twenty years? Husband threatens divorce proceedings for spending his lucky money? L But then the ticket wins £1 million, so he forgives you and you retire to live in luxury on a sun-kissed beach for the rest of you lives? J |

So is it the money itself which is considered "lucky"? By whom is it considered lucky - you? husband? anyone else? Is all £5 lucky? Is the £2 you were originally going to spend lucky? Is the extra £3 that you spent lucky? |

There are five one pound coins involved in this puzzle? Or are there some more? Are the two pounds you thought you were going to spend a subset of the five pounds you did spend? Does it matter? Any other relevant notes or coins? Of the pound coins involved, how many are considered "lucky" by you and your husband: 1? 2? 3? 4? 5? ... |

Yes When you left home, your husband expected you to buy 2 tickets? Well, he knew I was going to buy one at least as I had his lucky pound. It's not really relevant how many he thought I would buy or 5 tickets? or some other number? He didn't know? You are right though to try to sort out the events in the order they happened |

Ohhh! Lightbulb moment!! Did he want you to be sure to use his lucky coin to buy the tickets, but since there were five coins in his wallet, you didn't know which one was the lucky one, so you had to use them all? |

You didn't know you had to buy five till you got to the store... so you took the lucky pound from the table and dropped it in your purse/pocket/wallet, and when you got to the store realized that you had already had four of your own there, so you no longer knew which one was the lucky one and you had to use all five? (his 1 and your 4?) |
