She said she wasn't beautiful? That she wasn't southern?
Was she talking to someone in particular? Did they know that she was beautiful/southern? Did they figure it out?

In your profile pic, are you playing a violin or a viola? (This is quite germane to the puzzle, by the way).

There is a FA lurking here. The lady in question is a character in a book but also a character played by an actress. So there are, in essence, three people here. And then there is the woman she is speaking to in the events of the puzzle. Please be specific as to which of these you are referring.

Marginal blooper: I suppose the character in the book and the character performed by the actress will never die. Since neither is killed in the story, they must still be alive....they are kind of immortal, right?

What do we still need to find out?

So, this is when Dorthy meets the Glinda? In ("As mayor of...") the Munchkin City, in the County of the Land of Oz? ("...I welcome you most regally!" "But we must confirm it legally, to seeeeee, if sheeeee, is morally, ethically, undeniably, and reliably dead!" "As coroner, I must *cough*or, I thoroughly examined her! And she is not just merely dead, she's also most sincerely dead!" And so on and so forth... heh... sorry, got carried away...)

Glinda, or Billie Burke, told Dorthy that she was "The good witch of the north." However, she actually comes from somewhere in the southern US, so.... She was very beautiful and clearly from the south (from her accent), but she said differently.

***** SPOILER *******

Billie Burke, played Glinda, the good witch of the north in the Wizard of Oz (BTW Glinda is actually the good witch of the south in the book), however, she appears to speak with a bit southern US accent in movie. I thought this odd for a witch of the north.

There is additional irony in this puzzle, as it seems her southern accent was either directed or simply due to my inability to identify her accent based on the small number of lines she had. If I had heard Glinda a bit more, perhaps I would have recognized that Billie was not from the south at all. In fact, her accent came from the time she spent living in London.

Most people do not know that she was 54 when she played Glinda. The beautiful witch, appeared much younger than her years.

Billie died in Los Angeles of natural causes on May 14, 1970 at the age of 84.

Thanks all, good work!
