Is the balloon moving freely? Or is it driven by someone? Through a wire? Through electronic command? Does it have some propulsion system (like hot air baloons have, for example)? Diametre of the balloon: 10 cm? 20? 30? .... 1 m? 2? 5? etc. |

Is it like a party balloon? or like a weather balloon? Does it have shaving cream in it? Were the unconscious ones unconscious because they were walking and they stepping on a rake and the handle hit them in the head? |

Is it like a party balloon? Yes, something simple like that or like a weather balloon? No, not this big or elaborate Does it have shaving cream in it? No Were the unconscious ones unconscious because they were walking and they stepping on a rake and the handle hit them in the head? No, but you have the right kind of idea that explains why one of them was unconscious |

Was the person in second place "knocked out"? the person in third? |

Had the third person gone into the dark room in search of the balloon? In an attempt to locate the balloon? (using GPS or something - you never know, the way technology is evolving these days...) Does the first person have the balloon in their hand? Were there several balloons in the competition? (I'm trying to figure out how you can get 'third place' in a competition that involves chasing something) |

Was the person in second place "knocked out"? the person in third? Yes, they both were Had the third person gone into the dark room in search of the balloon? No In an attempt to locate the balloon? No (using GPS or something - you never know, the way technology is evolving these days...) Yeah really - I'm just waiting for the order to report to have the microchip implanted into my forehead to "they" can always know where I am... Does the first person have the balloon in their hand? Yes Were there several balloons in the competition? Just one (I'm trying to figure out how you can get 'third place' in a competition that involves chasing something) Don't think about it that way, since in this type of race there's really only one person who matters and that is the winner, or "first finisher". The idea of any other place finishers is really just a way of describing the outcome of the race. A few questions about this may help unfold the events that lead to the solution. |

Did the third person go into the room voluntarily? Whilst conscious? Were both 2 and 3 knocked out whilst looking for the balloon? Did either of them have the balloon in sight when they were knocked out? Was person 2 in some sense 'closer' to getting the balloon than person 3? |

Did the third person go into the room voluntarily? No Whilst conscious? Yes Were both 2 and 3 knocked out whilst looking for the balloon? Yes - 'looking for' may be a bit misleading, but you're definately on the right track here Did either of them have the balloon in sight when they were knocked out? YES Was person 2 in some sense 'closer' to getting the balloon than person 3? YES did the second or third place winners get a trophy? Any prize? Relevant? No one except the 'first place' finisher was to receive anything. As far as the actual race went, no one was really keeping up with who finished in any place other than first. |

Did person three fall from a great height? from ground level? Was person 3's fall caused simply by his looking at the balloon and therefore not paying attention to where he was going? Did something fall onto person 2? someone? person 3? Did the participants have to climb a ladder? stairs? a mountain? a building? Something man-made? something natural? Was it person 2 that had climbed? person 3? |

####SPOILER#### A new business was running a "Grand Opening" promotion by letting loose a balloon with a voucher attached awarding a prize to the person who found the balloon and returned the voucher to the business. Among the many people chasing the balloon, 3 people were ahead of all the others. One of them fell down an open manhole while looking skyward. The other 2 got to a tree where the balloon had come to rest. The first person to attempt to capture the prize fell out of the tree, but the next one to attempt it got the balloon and therefore won the prize. |
