A girl cried, "Mother!" to a woman she had never seen before, then ran sobbing into the woman's arms.

Girl - Human? Female (just to make sure)?
Has the girl always been able to see?

Was the woman the girl's mother? Did the girl think she was?
Did the girl want the woman to believe that she was her mother? Some spectators to believe this?

Did the girl inherit some characteristic in her appearance/voice from her mother?
Does she have only one eye?

Did the girl inherit some characteristic in her appearance/voice from her mother? Presumeably yes, but irrelevent.
Does she have only one eye? No.

Whew... I knew this would be a quickie, but not that quick! Whoever wants to go for the kill and hazzard a guess can sp0i1. I need to think up some harder puzzles for you folks.

So the girl was blind and was greeting her mother?
Had she just had an operation to restore her sight? Or is she still blind?
