The second thing that he broke: Did he break some kind of agreement/deal? Break an engagement/marriage? (Well, you've said he didn't "break a promise", so I guess not.) Did he percieve the fact that he broke the second thing to be something negative (for him)? Did somebody find the breakage of the second thing negative/bad? There are more people than him involved here, right? If so, one other person? two other persons? three? more than three? If so, how many of them are males, and how many are females, and how many are of some indefinite sex? Are there some relevant non-persons that we have yet to discover? Som animals? non-animate objects? other? Was the broken heart his own? If not, did it belong to a woman? or a man? or something else? Was the heart inside a living person? or on an obduction table? |

Or perhaps he broke a habit? (But I'm guessing no to this one as well as the above about the law) Since nobody appears to have felt bad about his breaking of the second thing -- was the second thing something that was considered hard to break? Or at least considered by someone to be hard to break? Or at least it took some kind of non-insignificant effort in order to break it? Silence is another thing that can be broken... |

I meant, first time you had relationship that lasted 6 months? 1 year? longer? Did you misunderstand this to mean something else? If so, does the answer change? If not is the longer 2years? 5years? |

I meant, first time you had relationship that lasted 6 months? 1 year? longer? the answer to this is NO Did you misunderstand this to mean something else?yes, I read it as something else, namely, I thought you were asking how long my first ever relationship lasted the answer to which would be 3 years. This could be regarded as a hint, as it is relevant. The relationship in question is not, however, my first ever relationship. If so, does the answer change?yes...see previous answer If not is the longer 2years? 5years? |

Did each relationship you had last less time than the previous, until this one? |

So this broke the streak of "descending relationship times", and this broke the streak of relationships ended badly? |

So this broke the streak of "descending relationship times", and this broke the streak of relationships ended badly?not what I was going for, but I think we have enough for a.... ************SPOILER***************** Somehow, I developed a quite ominous pattern in my love life...From the very first boyfriend I ever had, each relationship lasted almost exactly half as long as the previous one...My first was 3 years, the next a year and a half, the next nine months, the next 4 and a half months.... I had been dating my current boyfriend for 2 months and a week when he told me he wanted to break up to focus on other things in his life--breaking my heart, and potentially continuing my streak. But, we talked a for a few days and decided to keep seeing each other, if not as often--fixing my broken heart and ending my horrible pattern (We've been together 2 and a half years now). And a good thing too, or eventually it would have gotten to the point of a guy changing his mind halfway through asking me on a first date! Thanks revitalizing this puzzle, Puzzlicious! I thought it was a goner there for a while! Congrats on figuring it out! |

That reminds me of a letter to The Times which said that the writer's father was celebrating 25 years of marriage - after celebrating 50 years with his first wife. |
