A man was in hotel room when a terrible fire broke out. He was trapped in his room on the 20th floor and the window did not open. Poisonous smoke was coming under the door and through the A/C system and he started to choke. If he could last another 10 minutes help would arrive. What did he do? |

Was there another room in the toilet where he could go to without air-con, e.g, the toilet? Did he have any breathing apparatus? |

Tobasi, Did he breathe the air of the waste pipe putting a tube or similar through the ellbow of the toilet (as the water separated the air)? YES * * * SPOILER * * * He pushed a rubber tube through the bend of the toilet bowl and breathed the air in the pipe beyond. The water in the toilet formed a barrier to the smoke. The puzzle is based on a patent for a 'toilet snorkel' designed to be used as a lifesaver in just such circumstances. regards Paul |
