Can i do a bit of recap and you can point out any FAs? Our hero (or antihero) lives in Ireland in the mid 19th Century. He murders many people there but not all at the same time. During the great Irish famine 1845-1849 which was caused by potato blight he emmigrates to America. Once there something happens that causes him to feel great remorse about the murders he has committed. This event or occurrance can be summed up by an word starting with LE? Such is his remorse he becomes suicidal and hangs himself? Did I get the above right? Did he begin to feel remorse on the boat trip to the states? Did a particular event occur on the boat that triggered the remorse? I know you said that this story is own your own making but i can't help equating it to Joseph O Connor's novel Star of The Sea . Were you influenced by this novel at all?? it's a cracking read if you're interested in this period of Irish History. |

Can i do a bit of recap and you can point out any FAs ok Our hero (or antihero) lives in Ireland in the mid 19th Century. That's entirely correct, just some more details to be found out ... Did I get the above right? YES Did he begin to feel remorse on the boat trip to the states? NO Did a particular event occur on the boat that triggered the remorse? NO I know you said that this story is own your own making but i can't help equating it to Joseph O Connor's novel Star of The Sea . Were you influenced by this novel at all?? No, actually I've never even heard of it. it's a cracking read if you're interested in this period of Irish History. ... but I guess I will now! And, in fact, I can see how you'd think that just by looking at the Amazon.com review, but mine is not the same, and not nearly as complex! |

So the LE thing that makes him feel remorse, is it something that happens to him? To someone else? Someone that he knows? someone close to him? Was he completly unremorseful (if there is such a word) before this LE event? Did the event give him any new information? allow him to empathise with his victims (e.g. a loved one was murdered, making him realise the effect his actions would have had on others)? |

Don't want to get too gross but did he eat a specific part of his victims? is this relevant? NONE of these Sorry if this was a bit too morbid ... Just so we don't go too far ... HINT: That's virtually ALL we need to know about his cannibalism ... all that is left is to find the LE word and figure out how that ties in ... sorry if anyone has been grossed out by this ... I should have posted a warning, but I thought that might give too much away ... |

*****SPOILER***** Our antihero lived in poor urban Ireland during the time of the Irish Famine. Since he had no food, no alternative food source and was EXTREMELY desparate, he had to resort to cannibalism to survive. About a year into the Famine, he moved to the United States, determined to escape from the poverty which he lived in in Ireland and from the cannibalism which was driving him mad with guilt. He eventually forgot about his crimes, until one day at university, during a history lecture on the Donner Party (an American clan who, during ill-fated journey to the West, descended into cannibalism), he was overcome with guilt and with the thoughts of the depths of savagery to which he had fallen. Unable to live any longer, he hanged himself. So, The Blight caused his downfall, America his rebirth, the Lecture and the Noose his death. Again, sorry if this was a little much ... I really am not psychopathic, I was just in a lecture on the Famine and thought it might be interesting !!! |
