I think it's an old puzzle, perhaps many people know it already??? A young man was told to go to the ninth floor of a building. He went to the tenth floor instead and was hired. |

well, I don't know - yet The young man is human? same as 'he'? Would he been hired if he went to the ninth floor? Does ninth floor exist? Does he go straight to tenth floor? Does it matter whether he takes the elevator or the stairs? |

And since Rufus told me the answer, I can tell you are concentrating waaay to much on the elevater that is very true...there is nothing relevant about the very normal elevator. But the job is very relevant, and... Is the job: artistic/musical/writer? Banking/financial/real estate? Clerical/Administrative? Computer related / Hardware ? Construction / Craftsman ? Education / Academic Research ? Entertainment / Media ? Executive / Management ? Hospitality / Travel ? Legal Services ? Manufacturing / Distributions ? Medical / Health Services ? Politics / Government it's this one!!! / Military ? Sales / Marketing ? Technical / Science / Engineering ? Teaching / Child care? Transportation ? Food Service ? Sports? Entertainment? Jailbird / Criminal? Religion? If I had taken the elevator to the tenth floor, would I then have been able to walk out there? nothing wrong with the floor of the building as wellWould I have had any objections to do so? so there wouldn't be any objection relevant to the puzzle Is it relevant what is on the tenth floor?no |

is he a spy? was he set a task of just 'going to the ninth floor'? or was he told to go to the ninth floor and do something there? or obtain something there? did he make the decision that he could best accomplish the goal he was given by going to the tenth floor? did he learn something between starting out for the ninth floor and getting there that told him to go to the tenth floor instead? was it a test of initiative? of knowledge? of courage? could he actually have reached the ninth floor? did he realise that, to get to the ninth floor he needed to go to the tenth floor first? should we be finding out more about the building? does it belong to the people who hired him? is it a Government building? a public building? an apartment block? |

No problem at all, I think Kdoc pretty much nailed it in the post, so I think we are close enough for a **************SPOILER************* The young man was told to take an envelope to the ninth floor for his interview for a job as a spy. His spying nature prompted him to open the envelope to peek inside. The envelope contained a message to tell him to go to the tenth floor instead. So in effect, everyone who went to the ninth floor was eliminated because they did not show the nature to be a good spy...Our young man in the puzzle did, and won the job. I thought about the question about criminal as well, and it would work as well, but I thought it may throw in some FA's in there, so I kind of avoided it. |
