It took me a while to work all the kinks out of this one. I would not be surprised if one of you brilliant people found an alternate solution. We'll see!! Good luck! The strange man from your dream...well, you had thought it was a dream, but maybe not...cracks a barely visible smile when you stare blankly at him after his request for your help. "Let me explain," he says. "Yes," you reply, "Please do." "Our father has been kidnapped by an evil genius and is being held in some kind of strange prison. We've sent some of the smartest, fastest, and strongest people we know in to break him out, but to no avail. They all come out absolutely mad...raving about witches and wizards...saying that they can't make the puzzle pieces fit together. You're our last hope. Please! If you can get our father back, you'll be handsomely rewarded." This is clearly the most bizarre thing that's ever happened to you, but you agree. "Good." The man says. "One last thing. My father doesn't know you, and he won't trust you. Even if you get to him, he may not come with you willingly. Now close your eyes," "Fantastic," you think. "I've got to rescue a man I don't know, who won't even want me rescuing him." But you've already agreed. You close your eyes, and when you open them again you are at the door of a one-story brick building. The man's voice tells you good luck, but when you look, he is gone. You sigh. "I guess I'm on my own" you think. You open the door and step inside... |

OK, I'll take a look around inside the building... (Guess I should ask a question, eh?!?) What do I see? You're in a room. Pretty small. There is a door on each wall. In one corner is a man, sitting on a stool. In another corner are six metal poles sticking up out of the floor. Painted in the middle of the floor is a large compass that takes up most of the room. |

Hm, what do I notice when I take a closer look at the man? And does he look fairly friendly? Which directions are shown on the compass? In which direction was the door I entered, according to the compass? In which corner is the man? The poles? |

Hm, what do I notice when I take a closer look at the man? And does he look fairly friendly? The man has young looking features, but long grey hair. He's wearing little black spectacles. He's dressed in a long blue robe. I guess he appears friendly enough. Which directions are shown on the compass? North, south, east, and west. In which direction was the door I entered, according to the compass? South In which corner is the man? The man, in terms of compass directions is in the southwest corner. The poles? The northeast corner |

OK, I'll offer a friendly hello and then ask the wizardly looking fellow where I am... He smiles at you. "Ah, well, these things are relative, no?" he says. "What you need is...a weedy hut, no? Ah, well, it's all the same to me, whichever way you want to look at it!" Do I notice anything special about the doors to the west, north and east? They are just plain old doors. How about the ceiling? nothing remarkable (And will I be wishing I'd gone back and read your Part I?)It couldn't hurt. It's not very long anyway. try to open the 3 doors - if they open describe what is beyond them The door to the east is locked. The door to the north is unlocked. Behind it is a room about the size of the one I'm in. The back half of the room is barred off like a prison cell. There is a man inside. In front of the bars is a guard. He's scowling at me. The door to the west is unlocked as well. Behind it is another room of the same size. Nothing is in it except another door (to the north) and a little man, about 3 feet tall. He's pacing around and muttering to himself can you move the poles?no pick them up?no Maybe there are thorns to the north, teas or seat at the east, and stew in the west? It doesn't appear that way... |

this looks a little maze-ish. I'll use a 'path' to designate which room I'm refering to, using the compass room as an origin: Do the bars in room 0 reach the ceiling? If not, how high are they? In what sort of arrangement are they ordered? How is the east door locked? Talk to the Guard in room 0-N. Try talking to the guy behind the bars. In the room 0-W, try talking to the little man. try going north. |

this looks a little maze-ish. I'll use a 'path' to designate which room I'm refering to, using the compass room as an origin: Do the bars in room 0 reach the ceiling?no If not, how high are they? About 1 meter In what sort of arrangement are they ordered? In a row...at a 45 degree angle to the walls How is the east door locked? I can't tell. There is no keyhole or padlock that I can see. Talk to the Guard in room 0-N. He never stops scowling. "So they sent another fool to get this guy out! Like anyone can figure out the combination AND get past me!" He laughs a grunting laugh, and his face is stone again. Try talking to the guy behind the bars. He looks at me warily, but he won't say anything. In the room 0-W, try talking to the little man. "WHO In THE HELL ARE YOU!?!?!" he screams, "AND WHY ARE YOU TALKING TO ME!?!? AGH! THIS BLASTED PAIN IN MY BACK! YOU KNOW WHAT THAT PIECE OF GARBAGE WIZARD HAD THE NERVE TO SAY TO ME? HE SAYS 'Santa's Little Helper got a boo boo?' WHAT?!?! SANTA'S LITTLE HELPER! THE NERVE OF THAT WRETCHED MAN. AND A BOO BOO? WHY I OUGHTA..." Um, he seems pretty angry... try going north. The door is unlocked. There is another door ahead to the north, which is locked. There is a metal box/cabinet protruding from the eastern wall. The box is unlocked, and empty. Sitting in a chair on the west side of the room is a woman dressed all in black. Ask the guard for a key?A key? Ha! like I'd help you! No key will open this cell anyway! At the west door, go North please!see above see what is in there. Also ask the guard if you can talk to the prisoner. If he says yes, try to talk to him see above |

Is it possible to move or turn the metal poles? Are they solid or tubular? If they look like levers, pull each of them in turn. Check for inscriptions on all sides of the poles. Try to pull each pole out of the ground. When this fails miserably, go back to the woman in black and tell her about Part 1 of the adventure. If you still have the bone, feather and candy, given them all to the woman. If not, tell her about them and ask her whether she knows anything about them. Ask her if she knows the wizard-like man, or the 3-foot-tall man. Ask her if she saw anyone open the box nearest to her, and what (if anything) was in the box. Also, look under her chair. |

talk to the woman, ask her for help "Help?" she says..."From me? Why, I can make a man mad!!" search every room for any pieces of paper or other writing looking under and behind everything There are no pieces of paper to be found. There is writing however...inscriptions. The box in the room with the witch has numbers engraved on it...3421. Each of the metal poles also bears an inscription. From left to right they read: LIKE NEW YORK OR CALIFORNIA, BUT NOT TEXAS LIKE A STONE, A JACKET, OR A CHICKEN LIKE SILVER, OLIVE, OR ORANGE LIKE ONE FROM CINCINNATI, OR MARS LIKE AN ARROW, A LANTERN, OR A GIANT LIKE JUSTICE OR CHAOS, OR CLOCKWORK Beneath each of these six incriptions, there is a square shaped hole. OOPS I crossed posted! Talk to the woman. It seems you've cross posted yet again... The box is secured to the wall, right?right The little man... Maybe if he is refenced to as elves, he is self? The wizard is a poor old dear, I'm afraid. He always seems to be getting things mixed up. As for that elf. He seems a dreadful little fellow, but he's just in pain. He could help you though, if you helped him." Ask her if she saw anyone open the box nearest to her, and what (if anything) was in the box."No, nothing has been in that box for quite some time. Lateral adventures are very fun to host and to participate in. I've had one in mind for quite a while that would be in the style of a Sherlock Holmes mystery, but I haven't posted it yet because there are still some details I'll have to arrange in order for it all to make sense. This one is quite challenging for the moment... Are the metal poles hollow or solid? Are the poles all the same color? Diameter? |

I am not altogether certain how one might actually make relief from elf ire, but if the wizard is always mixing things up, perhaps we could persuade the elf to direct some of his ire at the wizard. For Crazypalpig, the words "silver", "olive" and "orange" are believed to have no exact rhymes in English. The same applied to the word "purple". I am unsure about "justice or chaos", but the Stanley Kubrick film and the Anthony Burgess novel "A Clockwork Orange" are both reasonably well known. |

I ask the elf if he might do this, and he responds "My ire, eh? My ire? Yeah, you better believe I will..." and with that he storms through the door into the room with the wizard and starts screaming at him that he's a no good, lousy pile of trash, etc. etc....the wizard looks mystified. Ask the wizard if he knows of anything that will change elf ire into relief. Ask him if he can help with a remedy for back pain. Please ask the witch the same questions. Ask the irate elf if perchance he happens to know where one could get a "weaned youth." Ask the wizard if a "weaned youth" is what we need. ("a weedy hut, no") Hi Crazypalpig, you're right that purple and orange are a bit suspect... though it does seem reasonable that three primary and three secondary colors be neatly represented. I was going by Clockwork Orange as Woubit suggests, and there is a restaurant called the Purple Olive in a popular tourist destination in Florida, with which a restaurant manager from Georgia like our adventure's host (or a wizard with a lot of really obscure knowledge) might possibly be familiar. I didn't pick up on the lack of rhyming words (thanks Woubit). Does seem like something's still missing here with those two clues, doesn't it? |

"I'm afraid I'm not a doctor..." Please ask the witch the same questions. "I told you the wizard is always mixing things up, didn't I? Ask the wizard directly if he can make elf ire into relief. "Indeed I can! That sort of thing is right up my alley. Would you like me to?" Try tapping the poles in room 0: Do they resonate at different frequencies or do they all produce the same note? They don't really produce much of a note. More like a dull thump. They aren't hollow. All the thumps sound identical...the poles are all identical, other than the inscriptions. |

Say "Yes, please" to the wizard The wizard steps through the door to the room with the elf. As the elf begins shout..."Why is this guy in..." when the wizard snaps his fingers and the elf is surrounded by a puff of smoke. The wizard then retreats back into his room. When the smoke clears, the elk looks up at you and smiles. "Thank you! Oh thank you so much! I feel so much better! Anything you need! I'll do whatever I can!" |

Thank the nice wizard for helping out. Ask the elf if now that he's feeling better he might know where one can find a "weaned youth." Beccaann, your clues are great, don't be sorry... I meant not your clues but my brain that seemed to be missing something! :] |

Ask him to tell you about those 4 numbers."Hmm...I really don't know anything about that." Also, ask im about the witch and wizard now."The witch and the wizard are half the gang. The sorcerer and the magician are around here somewhere. I've never met those two. You see, nothing and no one you'll find in this place is able to move more than one room from where you find it. Strange. So I've only heard of the sorcerer from the witch, and only heard of the magician from the wizard. Anyway, they all have different...talents. I've yet to figure out exactly how it is that they do what they do, though. Clearly you've figured out what the wizard can do. Maybe you can figure out the others too." Again with the prisoner and Guard. "I don't know. Sorry. I try to stay uninvolved in that kind of stuff." Also, ask him for some colored wooden blocks "Colored wooded blocks? I'm afraid I don't have any." Thank the nice wizard for helping out. "You're quite welcome. Glad to be of service. Let me know if I can do anything else for you." Ask the elf if now that he's feeling better he might know where one can find a "weaned youth." I'm sorry, but I have no idea what you are talking about." Beccaann, your clues are great, don't be sorry... I meant not your clues but my brain that seemed to be missing something! :] also ask the elf for any other help,"Why, I wouldn't know what you need help with!" ask him about all the other people again,See above ask him about the rods and the box "I don't know anything about the box. The poles? They're a system of locks for the doors in this place, with the exceptions of the ones you've passed through already, and the cell gate. That's my job, you see, I hold the keys! Only, I don't really understand them...so the doors have been locked for some time now...." |

Ask if we can look at the keys "Sure!" he says, and reaches into his back pocket. He hands you a bag. Inside are six metal blocks. Cube-ish, but rounded on one side. Each bears an incription: 0 0 255 128 0 128 255 255 0 255 0 0 255 165 0 0 128 0 Ask the elf if he's friends with any of the other people. "Friends? No, not really." |

check all the doors to see if any have been unlocked, then open them and describe the rooms beyond The door to the north in the witch's room has opened. In the next room there is nothing but another door (to the east) and a man in a wheelchair. The eastern door in the first room is also open. Through it is nothing but another door (to the north) and another man. He is pacing around, and he looks like he's deep in thought. Also check to see if the keys can be removed from the holes. They pop out if I press on them, but I think I'll leave them in place for now OK, so the wizard mixes things up. In other words, he re-arranges them. What the witch does is still unknown. Ask the witch about the sorceror, and the wizard about the magician. Witch: "The sorcerer...well. He doesn't talk much. I've watch him sometimes...he'll start with one thing, and end up with two completely different things. I haven't figured out how he does it yet." Wizard: "The magician. A curious fellow I do say. Can't leave things well enough alone. Things always end up less than they were when he's done with them." |

Talk to the man in the wheel chair and the one pacing around. See which is the sorceror and the magician. Man in wheelchair, who, it seems, has a strange voice: "Sorcerer or magician? Neither. I'm a scientist. I'm afraid I understand nothing about this place, and I understand a lot of things that confound most people. I'm not sure I'll be able to help you." Pacing man: "Magician? Sorcerer? I've done some amazing things, but all are based in science!! Amazing things! And do I ever get the credit?!?....." Check the two doors. They're locked aren't they? No. They are both unlocked. Through the door in the wheelchair-man's room is another room...suprise, suprise. There is another door, straight ahead to the east, and a white-haired man wearing purple robes. Through the door in the pacing-man's room is another room. There is a door straight ahead to the north and another man. He is dressed in a tuxedo and top hat, and carries a cane. The sorceror makes 1 word into 2 words? in that case, the cubes say 0 0 25 5 12 8 0 12 8 25 5 25 5 0 25 5 16 5 0 0 12 8 0 Ask he sorceror to do this? I will not, as per your request... Ask the wizard "What do you mean when you say that "Things always end up less than they were when he's done with them."They're the same but smaller? they're different and smaller? Does he work with physical things? words? numbers?" Hmmm, well for instance, I left a nice jacket and a robe and a raincoat in the next room there one time, and I wasn't gone for two minutes, but when I came back he was eating a bowl of cereal, and my stuff was gone. And he thanked me for providing his breakfast!! That was my best robe!" Ask the wizard to tell you more about the witch. He said she's got a talent; can he tell you what it is? Her talent is not wholly unlike the magician's...had you noticed that I didn't have a hat? That's because she figured she needed a pet! I wonder what became of that little animal..." Forget about the numbers thingy. I forgot that they are the spectrum colors! Forgotten |

check the final room to the north of the magician, is the door unlocked, if it is describe whats in there It is unlocked. Inside is a middle aged man with a mustache. He is reading a book. There is a door to the west. It leads into the sorcerer's room. go to the witch as if she can change man into mad, and hat into a cat or rat or bat, any of those at all? "Yes I can! In fact I did once turn a hat into a cat!" talk to the wheelchair scientist ask what he can do,"What can I do? Well, most things that anyone can do I suppose...except most things involving motor functions...I can write! I'm sure you've read one of my books. I'm not sure what you're getting at though..." same for the pacing scientist,"What do you mean? I can harness the powers of the universe! You use the things that I can do every day! But you don't think of me, do you? No, no one thinks of me." then the sorceror, "I can do many things. But I suppose you're referring to my ability to take things apart into pieces. A hobby of mine." then the magician, "I can do things no ordinary magician can do! I can truly make things disappear! Well, parts of things anyway. And in doing so these things are transformed!!" ask each of them if they anything new/different about every other person, and ask each of them if they have any objects No new knowledge about the wizard or the witch, or about the wheelchair man, the pacing man, or the reading man. The sorcerer regarding the magician: "His talent is nice, I suppose, but he starts with one thing and gets one other...I start with one and get two!" The magician regarding the sorcerer: "He's full of himself. All he does is create a little space. He still ends up with basically what he started with! He can't make anything vanish!" No one has any objects, except the book that the man in the northeast room is reading. And WHOOPS! I forgot important details about both the magician's and sorcerer's rooms!... The sorcerer's room has a box like the one in the witch's room on its south wall. It has an inscription reading 45231. The magician's room has a box on the west wall with an inscription reading 3241. |

OK, I want to find somewhere to sit down [on the floor is fine], and sort through everything we know about the wizard, the witch, the sorceror, and the magician. THE WIZARD: The wizard anagrams things. He changed "elf ire" to "relief". We know this, we've seen him do it. THE WITCH: The witch changes one letter of a word to make it another word; we haven't seen her do this, but the wizard and she both say she changed his "hat" into a "cat". THE MAGICIAN: The magician makes parts of something vanish, and then makes the remaining parts into something else. The sorceror says that the magician "starts with one thing and ends up with one other"; the wizard describes the magician by saying "Things always end up less than they were when he's done with them" and says the magician turned "a jacket, a robe, and a raincoat" into a bowl of cereal or breakfast. He also makes this comment about the witch: "Her talent is not wholly unlike the magician's" indicating that the two talents are somehow similar. That could be referring to the fact that they both change one thing into one other thing, though... The magician describes his own talent by saying "I can truly make things disappear! Well, parts of things anyway. And in doing so these things are transformed." THE SORCEROR: The witch says: "he'll start with one thing, and end up with two completely different things." Talk to the book reading person. He doesn't seem to know any more than I do..."Do you happen to know where we are?" he asks, "This place has an eerie quality about it..." Can you see the book cover or pages? No, but upon asking the man he tells me that it is a collection of reviews of his own work. If so, read it, and if you have time, read the first page. The man reads one passage aloud to me, attributing the quote to none other than Edgar Allen Poe. "His tone is singularly effective--wild, plaintive, thoughtful, and in full accordance with his themes...we look upon him as one of the few men of indisputable genius to whom our country has as yet given birth." Ask the sorcerer if his ability directly combats the one of the magician. "No, not at all. See, the difference is that say, you brought me a nice rug...I could make that rug into a nice Corvette with a happy little dog in the backseat! All that magician could do would be to turn it into a little fish, or a proofreading symbol. check the boxes to see if they have anything in them No, they are empty |

As to the other men, the man in the wheelchair is almost certainly Steven Hawking, and the book he mentioned is most likely A Brief History of Time and the mustachioed man reading is Nathaniel Hawthorne [the quote is from a review of Hawthorne's Twice-told Tales.] I have no idea who the pacing, thinking man is, [can we get a fuller description of him?] or what good knowing who these men are will do. Although the magician could make Hawking into a hawk or a king; and Hawthorne into either a thorn or a horn... Ask Hawthorne, Hawking, and the pacing man whether they can leave the rooms they're currently in, and if they can, how far can they go? One room away, like the Witch, Elf and Wizard? Farther? Ask the magician and sorceror the same thing, please? I'm guessing that the witch will have to interact somehow with Hawking, the sorceror with pacing man, and the magician with Hawthorne, since the Wizard had to interact with the elf for us to get the keys. My further suspicion is that somehow, what they do will give us the words we need to make whatever it is appear in their respective boxes... |

The witch can't do anything with Steven Hawking's name, but it could be something associated with him, [like the elf's ire.] If the functional word relating to Hawking is "time", the witch could make that into "dime", "lime", "mime", or "rime". If the magician also isn't working with the man's name, but his book, he could make it into "ice", "ale" or "ales". |

So, people can only work on adjacent rooms? So the Wizard has to work on the jailed man, Either the Elf or the Walking man has to do something with the Wizard, the Witch with Hawking? Correct. Basically it boils down to this: The wizard has access to the south end of the building, the witch the west end, the sorcerer the north end, and the magician the east end. Therefore the wizard and the witch can interact with the elf and each other. The witch and the sorcerer can interact with Hawking and each other. The sorcerer and the magician can interact with Hawthorne and each other. The magician and the wizard can interact with the pacing man and each other. The guard and the prisoner can only interact with the wizard and each other. It might help you to draw this out. "I'm so sorry, Mr Tesla! I didn't recognize you; I've only ever seen old photos of you." By the way, here's the diagram I've been making as we go. So, assuming that because there are four magic workers, and four non-magic workers, each magic-worker has to interact with one of the non-magic-workers for us to get the things we need to free the prisoner, am I correct in saying that: The wizard had to interact with the elf to get the keys to the originally locked doors, The witch will have to interact with Steven Hawking, or something associated with him? And that interaction will give us the letters that we need to get something from the box on the wall of her room? The sorceror will have to interact with Nathaniel Hawthorne or something associated with him? And that interaction will give us the letters that we need to get something from the box on the wall of the sorceror's room? The magician will have to interact with Nicola Tesla or something associated with him? And that interaction will give us the letters that we need to get something from the box on the wall of the magician's room?

"I'm so sorry, Mr Tesla! I didn't recognize you; I've only ever seen old photos of you." "Quite alright I suppose..." By the way, here's the diagram I've been making as we go. Impressive! You wouldn't believe how many versions of it I have laying around So, assuming that because there are four magic workers, and four non-magic workers, each magic-worker has to interact with one of the non-magic-workers for us to get the things we need to free the prisoner, am I correct in saying that: The wizard had to interact with the elf to get the keys to the originally locked doors, The witch will have to interact with Steven Hawking, or something associated with him?Yes, but... And that interaction will give us the letters that we need to get something from the box on the wall of her room? This may not be entirely correct. The sorceror will have to interact with Nathaniel Hawthorne or something associated with him?Yes, but... And that interaction will give us the letters that we need to get something from the box on the wall of the sorceror's room? This may not be entirely correct. The magician will have to interact with Nicola Tesla or something associated with him?Yes, but... Is the flaw that one of Hawking's books is relevant?Well, that's not what I meant, but indeed the mention of his book was only meant to help you determine his identity. It is not relevant. if so, is the relevant book something other than A Brief History of Time? See previous answer Is the flaw that "time" is the relevant concept?Again, not what I meant, but "time" is not really relevant... |

Is the flaw in the spelling of Stephen Hawking's first name? Perhaps we should split him into a Step and a Hen? As the sorceror is in the adjacent room, perhaps you might ask him if he's able to do this. Likewise, as Hawthorne is next door to the Magician, perhaps ask the latter if he can make Hawthorne into a hawthorn bush, or such. I am really struggling with this! |

Is the flaw in the spelling of Stephen Hawking's first name?YES! Perhaps we should split him into a Step and a Hen?Perhaps! As the sorceror is in the adjacent room, perhaps you might ask him if he's able to do this. He agrees. He steps through into the room with Stephen Hawking and before I know it, there is a hen sitting in the wheelchair, and a stepping block in front of it. Likewise, as Hawthorne is next door to the Magician, perhaps ask the latter if he can make Hawthorne into a hawthorn bush, or such. He agrees as well, and before my eyes Nathaniel Hawthorne is no longer, and a small thorny shrub sits in his place. I am really struggling with this! No! You're doing great! |

Well, the witch said that she thinks there's supposed to be something inside the box on her room's wall. Ask the magician and the sorceror if there was ever anything inside the boxes in their rooms? And the witch hasn't done anything with anything yet; I'm sure that her talent has to be used somehow... The wizard could change the shrub into a brush, I suppose, but I don't know what good that will do. |

Woodworm, that was great! I was completely stumped. Still am, for that matter... OK, I have no clue what to do here, or what the boxes are for, but inventory check: Step, Hen, Slate, Shrub?I'd go ahead and continue to call the shrub a hawthorn. Great. Do we have to make the Wizard change this all into some sort of thing to get inside the cell by any chance? There's certainly more wordplay to be done, whether it concerns the wizard is another question. Well, the witch said that she thinks there's supposed to be something inside the box on her room's wall. Ask the magician and the sorceror if there was ever anything inside the boxes in their rooms? Magician: "Hmm. I don't think I ever saw anything in there." Sorcerer: "It's been empty for as long as I've been here, but I'm pretty sure something's supposed to get put in there." And the witch hasn't done anything with anything yet; I'm sure that her talent has to be used somehow... The wizard could change the shrub into a brush, I suppose, but I don't know what good that will do. |

Hey, can the wizard change the guard(A pest) into a step? So then we would have two steps. Give the witch the Slate and maybe we could change it into a plate? If this isn't correct, ask her to change it back |

Perhaps revisit Her Witchiness and ask her if she'd mind going north again. Perhaps she could change the step to a stew? Can she move the stew back into her original room? Just playing with stew/west, [haw]thorn/north, s[l]ate/east, but I'm not convinced. We'd need a shout somewhere, and the elf isn't shouting. If this isn't doing much good, ask the witch to accompany you southwards to the Elf's room. Is the Elf still there? Ask the elf if he can perform any verbal magic himself, or if he is prepared to be transformed further in the pursuit of your quest. Can she make him into an elk? Or an elm? |

Hey, Mr. Wizard, change mr. nice Elf back into Elf ire. He'll start yelling again I bet! Woodworm, I bet you are right! Bring the slate to the person who removes one letter-The magician I think. Change it into sate, then ask the wizard to move to the correct move to change it to east. Someone has to change hawthorn into haw and a thorn: Bring this to the magicians room, ask the wizard to go east, and change the thorn into north. After the witch moves the stew back, the wizard moves west, and changes the word to west I hope this works out! |

I can see a problem here. The wizard can't get to the Hawthorn to change it to north. I'm thinking you have to put the objects in the boxes, not actually change them into North, East and West. If you look at the numbers in each box they match up: North 45231 Thorn West 3421 Stew East 3241 Sate |

Can she move the stew back into her original room?Yes she can. Can she make him into an elk? Or an elm? She can, but I'm not sure the elf would be veryu happy. Going by the numbers in the boxes, I think you're right woodworm, and there's no box in the wizard room. So we may not need to make south with anything Hey, Mr. Wizard, change mr. nice Elf back into Elf ire. He'll start yelling again I bet! A terrible shame, but he does it. The elf starts into a loud rant. I sure hope this is worth it. Woodworm, I bet you are right! Bring the slate to the person who removes one letter-The magician I think. Change it into sate, Done. There is a plate full of skewered meat in the place of the rock. then ask the wizard to move to the correct move to change it to east. East isn't really an object...I don't think this is possibleSomeone has to change hawthorn into haw and a thorn:The sorcerer agrees. The hawthorn bush mostly disappears, leaving one thorn, and one fruit (a haw) on the ground. Bring this to the magicians room, ask the wizard to go east, and change the thorn into north. The wizard cannot get to the thorn, nor the thorn to the wizard. It wouldn't matter, as north is no more of an object than east is. After the witch moves the stew back, the wizard moves west, and changes the word to west Again, the wizard cannot reach the stew, or the stew the wizard. I hope this works out! I can see a problem here. The wizard can't get to the Hawthorn to change it to north. I'm thinking you have to put the objects in the boxes, not actually change them into North, East and West. That's a good thought. Shall I do it? If you look at the numbers in each box they match up: North 45231 Thorn West 3421 Stew East 3241 Sate OK, now I get it Lshooter! Nice thinking! Becca, do what Lshooter said instead of using the wizard the whole time! Ok, I will. I put the stew into the west box, the thorn into the north box and the sate into the east box. Each time I put an object into a box the box closes and retreats back until it is flush with the wall, and I hear a loud click, what sounds like the opening of a latch. |

Check each room and look to see if anything has changed/opened Nothing has changed except in the room with the guard. Attached to the front of the gate is now a black box much like the ones in the other rooms. The inscription says "15234" OK, transform the Elf back again. Done Also, check the 6 metal poles and look inside them. Nothing has changed here The cell may also have done something. See previous answers Ask the witch if she needs some pets She looks perplexed, but her answer is no. Heh, just for a lark, ask the Witch to do this to the Hen: Hen- Pen- Pin- Bin- Bun- Ben- Bey- Key? The transformation was quite enternaining, however like everything else from this place, it cannot move more than one room away from its starting place. Let's see if this key can be moved to the cell No such luck, my friend. |

Go up to the locked south door, and shout loudly. The box on the gate retreats like the other boxes did, and the cell gate rises up into the ceiling. The prisoner is no longer trapped, but the guard has struck a defensive stance. Getting by him seems like an impossible feat. |

OK, let me guess, the man isn't being cooperative, correct? Why no, he's not. You'd think he'd come right along with me, but he seems paranoid and suspicious of me... Give him that drug on the floor Sure (My mistake in making the drug a bottle of pills as opposed to a syringe full of something, which would be easier to force upon an unwilling participant, please excuse my oversight.) He takes the drugs and after a few minutes he seems very relaxed and amicable. |

Wow everyone, guess I missed all the fun... I'm back in time to suggest we say something like, "Hello, your children sent me to rescue you from this terrible place! Would you mind folowing me to the south..." He comes along happily... Still waiting outside is the strange man who brought you there. Upon sight of his father he is overjoyed and he thanks you profusely. "If we ever need you again, can we call on you?" he asks? You sigh. "Sure," you reply, "but how about knocking on my door next time..." By the way, I was thinking as I read through all the posts (great work everyone) maybe we could just bypass the whole (fun) puzzle by asking the wizard to turn the bars into bras, with which we could tie up the guard and get the prisoner past him... :] Goodness gracious...I'm very glad you did not come up with that at the beginning. I would have been hard pressed to come up with a reason for it not to work. The whole concept of the number inscriptions on the boxes, and things not being able to move more than one room were all last minute safeguards against alternative solutions. But that's a good one! Thanks everyone for participating. It was quite fun. Maybe I'll do another some time, but I think my brain needs a rest. Yes and no answers will do quite fine for a while! ***SPOILER*** |

Wall->fall would have worked to. Either it's the verb, and what had been the wall crumbles, or it's the hairpiece, and we could walk through it like a curtain. Still need to do the guard->a drug, though. This was fun, Beccaann |
