Carl takes his mother and his wife to the theater to watch a play. When they arrive, Carl and his mother enter first, then Carl goes back outside and enters the theater together with his wife. Why don't all three of them enter together? |

So Carl wheels his mother in, and to her spot, and then returns outside in order to accompany his wife inside. Correct? Will all three be seated in the same area? Is there something that prevented his wife entering with them? Or did she elect to wait outside? |

Would it be possible for me to go along to the theatre with Carl's wife and mother, and then enter first with his mother and go back for his wife? Is Carl's job relevant? Does he work at the theatre? Do they purchase three tickets? (The first thing I thought when I read the puzzle statement is that they only purchase two tickets. Carl and his mother enter the theater, then Carl leaves with both ticket stubs, giving one to his wife, then they go back in with both ticket stubs, pretending they both bought tickets.) |

Would it be possible for Carl's mother to push herself to her seat alone, and then wait a while for Carl and his wife to enter? does it have to do with the time it would take to get his mother into the seat? I am thinking that Carl would bring his mother in, get her into the seat, and then have to take the wheelchair somewhere to stow... are Carl's mother and his wife at odds with each other? do they need Carl as a buffer? If so, would they be angry about being left alone with each other while Carl takes care of the wheelchair? At the end of the performance, does Carl take his mother first, get her situated in the car, and then come back for his wife? or do all three leave together? on another route: is the aisle to small to allow Carl, his mother and the wheelchair, and his wife at the same time? |

In one of them, it is relevant. Does Carl say anything relevant whilst entering the theatre with his wife? No Does his wife propel herself to her seat in any way? Yesish Does Carl propel her? "yope" or "no" according to which scenario we choose. Henceforth, let's go for "yope". Does he push her in his mother's wheelchair? Can what is on Carl's wife's feet be purchased at a common ladies shoe store? Absolutely is there something tangible between wife's shoes and the ground? At one time, yes is carl between wife's shoes and the ground? No. You have a vivid imagination :-) Is Carl's wife verticle? Vertical? At one time, yes horizontal? sitting? At one time, yes squatting? doubled over? upside down? entering the theater? At one time, yes. No to the others. Does Carl's wife sit in his mother's wheelchair at some point in the course of this puzzle? Yes On the way to her seat? This needs further specification. Yope. Does she push it herself? Does Carl push it? These are the two scenarios that I mentioned. Both are possible. Let's say Carl pushes it. Are Carl's wife's high heels uncomfortable? Not particularly is she used to walking in high heels? Yes Does she wear them on her way to the seat? Yes Whilst sat in the seat? Yes Is the scenario in which Carl yopeishly propels his wife to her seat the same as the one in which it's relevant that he walks behind her? Yes Is there a discrepancy here: Does Carl propel her? "yope" or "no" Does he push her in his mother's wheelchair? "Yes(ish)" You be the judge. This should be cleared up by now. Is the "ish" because he doesn't push her? Correct Did a heel break off one of her shoes? No Did anything relevant happen on the way to the theater? No Meh. Look at my October 1st post Um. Well. Again, this is now cleared up - we're talking about the wife's shoes. |

does she have trouble walking in the theater because of stairs? does the floor slope down at such an angle that she would have trouble in her heels? None of these... important what type/size the heels are? if so, are the heels thick, thin, pencil thin? Probably somewhere between thin and pencil thin If Carl's wife were wearing sneakers would the puzzle work? No is it because of the wife's shoes that the wife sits in the wheelchair? Yes just to clarify, when I asked "is carls wife horizontal while entering the theater?" was the answer "at one time, yes"? No, sorry if I answered confusingly was there some horizontal moment in wife's trip from the car to the theater? No |

Are there any lifts involved in this puzzle? any stairs? escalators? ramps? Is there a specific part of the route from wherever she starts to her seat that Carl's wife does not want to traverse in high heels? A cattle grid? |

Are there any lifts involved in this puzzle? any stairs? escalators? ramps? None of these Is there a specific part of the route from wherever she starts to her seat that Carl's wife does not want to traverse in high heels? Yes A cattle grid? Not exactly, but close enough ***************** SPOILER ******************** To get from the car park to the theater, our heros had to cross a pedestrian bridge. The floor of the bridge consisted of steel grid modules, and Carl's wife did not want to cross in her high heels, which would stick in the grid openings. As the grid had a coarse surface to improve traction for people's shoes, taking off the shoes and expose her delicate nylon stockings to the grid was not an option either. So they agreed that Carl would get his mother seated first, then subsequently come back with the wheelchair and carry his wife across. |
