it = what she asked for? it = it? The first it refers to what she asked for, the second it refers to her life. The statement could have read, "She got exactly what she asked for, but the thing she asked for made her life much worse than her life had been before" is a job relevant? participation in an activity? joining a group? club? earning a title? education? no to all |

I know you said it was fiction, not mythology, but 2 "mythological" scenarios spring to mind. Would the solution be similar to either one of these? "The Fisherman's Wife"; she asked for some wealth (money, gold, house, car, whatever), and when it was granted, she asked again later for something bigger and better. And again and again. Untill it was all taken away because she had become too greedy. Is something similar to this? "King Midas"; she asked for something without thinking about all the consequences. Like he asked for everything he touched to be turned to gold and then even his food and his daughter was. Anything like this? |

Like he asked for everything he touched to be turned to gold and then even his food and his daughter was. Anything like this? Not really, although it does involve somebody asking for something without really thinking it through. Although I got it from fiction, as far as I know it was not a particularly famous story (it came from a book of short stories I once read) |

The only other stories I've heard of that nature are... This Christmas story where a girl asks for it to be Christmas every day. Fortunately for her, the fairy who grants the wish suggests they try it for one year and then renew the wish at the end of the year if she likes it. Something like this? Is this story have a happy ending? A return to normalcy ending? Or is it more like one of Grim's fairy tales where whoever did it suffers horribly or dies because of their request? Does the requestor even have a chance to learn from their mistake? |

Or is it more like one of Grim's fairy tales where whoever did it suffers horribly or dies because of their request? Does the requestor even have a chance to learn from their mistake? Well, I think in the actual story I read there was no going back and there was no happy ending. However in principle the story would still work perfectly well if you added a kindly mythical being who agreed to reverse it. |

This has been dead for a few days now, so: ***HINT*** She got exactly what she asked for, but not exactly what she wanted. Obviously she wouldn't have deliberately asked for something she didn't want and that would make her life far worse than it had been before...so how did this come about? Think about it. |

So basically, she wished to be larger? smaller? entirely, or maybe just a part of her (i.e., breast size, etc.)? How much larger? 7'? 10'? giant? to the point where basic physics would probably not permit her to survive? How much smaller? 4'? 2'? rat-sized? microscopic? Did she want to be exactly as big or as small as what she is now? Did she survive the transformation? Did she die shortly afterward? Is she now unable to live in society, or unable to perform once simple tasks, as a result of her transformation? |

OK, back to generic stuff. She's thinner now? A lot thinner? Did she lose a significant amount of weight? Is she now 100lbs? 80lbs? 50lbs? 20lbs? lower? Is she able to walk on her own? Can she eat normal food, or does she need some sort of feeding tube, etc.? Can she open doors? Can she push buttons? Can she do most jobs without massive accommodations, ones that would make OSHA regulations look lenient? If I were to look at her from her front, would she be as attractive as she was before? (Assume for practical purposes that 'inner beauty is what counts' is what ugly people say.) Is she confined now to some mechanical device or prosthetic? |

OK, back to generic stuff. She's thinner now? NO, she is NOT...good question A lot thinner? So no Did she lose a significant amount of weight? But YES Is she now 100lbs? 80lbs? 50lbs? 20lbs? lower? Lower! Is she able to walk on her own? It would be difficult Can she eat normal food Yes,, or does she need some sort of feeding tube, etc.? No Can she open doors? Yes, but with difficulty Can she push buttons? Yes Can she do most jobs without massive accommodations, ones that would make OSHA regulations look lenient? She would need a massive accommodations If I were to look at her from her front, would she be as attractive as she was before? Yes (Assume for practical purposes that 'inner beauty is what counts' is what ugly people say.) Is she confined now to some mechanical device or prosthetic? No, though she would need help to do most things if her wish of the generic mythological wish dispenser was "I want to be thinner" would the results have been different? YES would it have been what she wanted? Yes was she more descriptive than the above in her wish? did she use metaphor? Not descriptive or metaphorical exactly, but she didn't say exactly what she meant Almost there now... |

She wanted to lose weight, and now - with the same figure as she had before - she is too lightweight to carry out simple tasks that require some amount of force? That's pretty much it ***** SPOILER ***** This was based on a short story I once read (the title and author of which I have now completely forgotten). An overweight woman met a generic mythological wish dispenser commonly utilized for ironic effect, who granted her one wish. She asked "to lose weight". Of course, what she really wanted was not to get lighter...she wanted to get thinner. The generic mythological wish dispenser, however, granted her literal wish. So she stayed exactly the same size as she had always been, but got lighter and lighter - so light, in fact, that she floated, making it difficult to perform everyday tasks without serious assistance. (I belive in the story, the generic mythological wish dispenser was irritated by the fact that she wanted an easy route to being thin while continuing to stuff herself with food, so decided to punish her). It was difficult to answer the questions about whether the wish would make her look 100% human, firstly because the thing she wanted and the thing she got were very different, and also because her actual appearance would be human, but humans are not normally bobbing around the ceiling. |
