It wasn't easy fitting in. So they gave me more time. But the others now saw me as broken. |

It = object? I'll rephrase the first line. "Fitting in wasn't easy." they= HAMs? mostly male? mostly female? all female? real mix? Mix of human adults me = HAM? HAF? HCF? HCM? None of these others same questions as "they"? Same answer but not the same people me = me? Yes with a tiny ish. The first me could be considered a sort of subset of the second. Could be read as "They gave me more time, but then the others now saw me in my entirety as broken." Hope that's clear enough broken= controlled ( as in to break a horse)? No damaged? Yope no longer fit for purpose? Yope |

Though I did rephrase the first line to avoid answering Tom's question, I think I feel a little guilty about not addressing it. 'It' in the original puzzle statement does actually refer to the process of fitting in, but 'something' is involved that would be misleading to call an object. |

Fighting the flu here, so my brain is not working properly, sigh, but let's give it another try.... Oh dear, do take care and get well soon :-) Is location relevant? No era? The second line of the puzzle statement refers to something that happened recently Can I see 'me'? Yes Is it a natural phenomena? No something abstract? No lateral thinking relevant? Only to solving the puzzle, but no that's not what 'me' is Is "me" alive? No A phyisical object? No but... Any of these relevant; board games? computer games? This one! In fact I speak of a particular game that has transcended several platforms, and this is not something only a gamer would know about, so dont be put off if you aren't one. computers? role play? books? films? magazines? anything to do with entertainment? |

Is 'it' a computer game, or something similar? A character in a computer game? 'Platform': Consoles? Or, 'platform' as in 'method of playing'? for example, a popular board game that is also a computer game. Or do you mean that the subject has had such wide reach that it covers many different media? Or, is it not really a game at all, but a piece of software that covers a lot of different things, including games? (Vista might fit the puzzle description well...) 'It' is a newcomer, kind of? It hasn't quite fit in yet? or just took a while to do so? And now previous things that are like 'it' consider 'it' as broken? |

Is 'it' a computer game, or something similar? Yes there is a computer version A character in a computer game? No, and funny that we both made puzzles about video games :-D 'Platform': Consoles? Correct Or, 'platform' as in 'method of playing'? for example, a popular board game that is also a computer game. So no Or do you mean that the subject has had such wide reach that it covers many different media? No Or, is it not really a game at all, but a piece of software that covers a lot of different things, including games? (Vista might fit the puzzle description well...) No, simply a game 'It' is a newcomer, kind of? Quite the contrary... It hasn't quite fit in yet? NO! and FA or just took a while to do so? No And now previous things that are like 'it' consider 'it' as broken? No |

Tweek, there's another similarity between our puzzles btw :-D and it will be evident soon. I'm really laughing out loud at the coincidences since I had no clue your puzzle was about video games when I made this one. Haven't played Portal yet but will try it soon :-D |

I nearly made a puzzle about albatrosses while working out the answer to 'C-Section', so it all works out. If I do this in the future I'm going to make damn sure that the people on this forum - all of them - already know exactly what they need to know, no googling or anything required. I mistakenly assumed that the majority would probably know about it, since it's a puzzle game and its influence has spread to just about every corner of the internet by now, and looking back it was pretty unfair to expect people to work out a solution to something that requires a certain background to understand. So, yeah, sorry. Specific type of game? FPS? RPG? MMO? BBQ? Household name? Lots of sequels? Unique? It hasn't fit in at all? and shouldn't have to? because it's older than what is currently out there? it's the predecessor? it's broken in retrospect? Who is 'they'? other games? people who play games? By 'giving more time', you mean, 'the old game stayed in market a little longer'? |

Well I enjoyed your puzzle nevertheless. Lateral thinking could be a medium to learn so much more. For example, Tsoram's puzzles baffle philosophy professors (cough Nimue cough) so I don't see why we can't learn new things through them :-) Specific type of game? FPS? RPG? MMO? BBQ? I guess it's a puzzle/arcade Household name? I think everyone I know knows the game Lots of sequels? Unique? It has been ripped off a LOT, loads of versions of it, and what I speak of is a change that was implemented in one of the recent versions. It hasn't fit in at all? and shouldn't have to? because it's older than what is currently out there? it's the predecessor? it's broken in retrospect? None of these, and FA again. The FA is in your interpretation of the first line of the puzzle. Who is 'they'? other games? people who play games? None of these, and they are people. By 'giving more time', you mean, 'the old game stayed in market a little longer'? No Are 'they' the other players? Hmmm, are cheat codes relevant here? No to both |

Tetris? YES! :-) Are they the game developers? Correct! Well done! So something in Tetris wasn't easy "fitting in". So the game developers gave it more time. But then the others saw it as broken. Almost there! |

did they make the zigzaggy pieces (you know which ones I mean...) fall slower than the other pieces? No what they did was to all the pieces, and it wasn't that they made them fall slower, but... something similar? Yes you are almost there... The "zigzaggy pieces" as Bentarm so adroitly christened them, weren't easy "fitting in". So the game developers did something to make it easier, which involved giving them more time to...?? But the others now saw Tetris as 'broken'. |

More time at the bottom of the board, so that you can more easily "push" them underneath another piece? Or maybe allow the use of a pause function so you can get more time deciding? |

Is this a version that allows a flip? thus allowing you to essentially change a piece? No, you cannot completely change the piece, merely rotate it just like normal tetris. More time at the bottom of the board, so that you can more easily "push" them underneath another piece? EXACTLY, well done! Or maybe allow the use of a pause function so you can get more time deciding? ********* SPOILER ********** Easy spin dispute Although not the first Tetris game to feature "easy spin" (see The Next Tetris), also called "infinite spin" by critics, Tetris Worlds was the first game to fall under major criticisms for it. Easy spin refers to the ability of a tetromino's lockdown time to regenerate after left or right movement or rotation, and this has been implemented into The Tetris Company's official guideline. This new type of play differs from traditional Tetris because it takes away the pressure of higher level speed. Some reviewers even went so far to say that this mechanism broke the game. The goal in Tetris Worlds, however, has to do with completing a certain number of lines as fast as possible, so technically the ability to hold off a piece's placement will not make achieving that goal any faster. Later, critics would receive "easy spin" more openly, saying "though the infinite spin issue honestly really affects only a few of the single-player gameplay modes in Tetris DS, because any competitive mode requires you to lay down pieces as quickly as humanly possible." In response to the issue, Henk Rogers stated in an interview that infinite spin was part of the guideline, giving a rationale: So the problem is you get part way through the game, make one small mistake, 'Aw, I blew it,' and restart. I think that's an annoying way to play the game. So we decided it's better to give them a way to recover from that small mistake, but you're losing time. So if you sat there and rotated for, I don't know, five seconds, you've just taken five seconds out of the game that you needed to score so many points. So you won't find in the top games any gratuitous spinning going on, it just doesn't happen. It helps the beginning player who's trying to figure out what to do. It's a useless feature (for competitive play); it only helps if you're taking the time to think. The better players don't take that much time to think, that's the difference. Despite this, some recent games are not implemented in the way he meant for it to work. Modes lacking a timer such as marathon in Tetris Deluxe or also marathon and line mode in Tetris DS make problems for his statement. The claim that "you've just taken five seconds out of the game that you needed to score so many points" isn't true. Losing time by gratuitously spinning a piece will not hurt the player in modes that do not reward better times with better scores.` |

Tweek, if you noticed the title "Kalinka", that's the background music for one of the levels in Tetris. Just like "Still Alive" is the score to Portal. :-) Something I love about LTPF is that you realise that there are people out there who think just like you :-D |
