Does this have anything to do with the NFL network? I think there was a situation recently where a game was scheduled to air on the NFL network and many cable providers did not offer the network. Due to overwhelming response, the NFL decided to air the game on network TV. So I guess my guess at the scenerio would be something along the lines of viewers requesting that the NFL network be added to their cable line up and instead they got the game on network TV? |

So, the TV station was not going to broadcast all of the match, but only part of it. Did the viewers ring during the match to ask them to broadcast it all? Did they ring after the match to complain that this had not happened? Did the number of viewers calling the station influence the station's schedule? Did the phone calls cause some technical distress at the station? Is it relevant that many people ringed? Relevant how many? Relevant why the TV station had decided not to broadcast the whole match in the first place? Did the match end in overtime? Is there actually overtime in American football? I have no clue. |

Spoiler: This puzzle refers to the so-called "Heidi Game", where NBC, the network broadcasting the game, stopped the broadcast to begin a scheduled showing of the made-for-TV movie "Heidi". Corporate headquarters tried to call the broadcasting station to tell them to switch back, but they weren't able to because all the people calling had jammed up their phone lines. For more information see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heidi_Game
