Is he human? adult? male?
Was he killed? by someone? by an accident?
Do we have to find out more about the shoes? where this happened? at which time of the day? in which century?
Was he asleep when he died?
Apart from him, how many other people are involved: 0? 1? 2? ...?

This might be a classic, or a variation thereof. Do the murderer and the victim have anything in common? If the answer is yes, I will shut up.

Was he murdered on purpose?

Is he the only character who died?

Was he at home? At someone else's place? At work? A hospital? In space? Underwater? Somewhere else?

Did he go to sleep in a regular bed?

Would he have been killed if he had not removed his shoes?

Did the removal of his shoes happen relatively immediately before his sleeping? As in, did he remove his shoes and fall asleep within a few minutes-ish of each other, or did he do something relevant between removal of shoes and sleep?

Hmm... and since nobody else has checked, he(1)=he(2)?

Is the smell of his feet relevant?
Is the way he was killed relevant? was he shot? choked?
Did this happen in a building? in a hotel? in a room?
Did the murderer come into the room? did the murderer see him? wake him up?
Assume he had not taken off his shoes: would he still have slept? would the other one still have wanted him dead?
Did the shoes he took off belong to him?

***** Hints *****
It's a murder and as the old saying goes - there is never a perfect murder, the murdered always leaves some traces behind. A good detective looks for these minute traces.

Were his feet the entry point for the electric current? And his shoes would have insulated him against it? Or at least prevented his killer from using his feet as the entry point?

Was the killer an employee of the railroad? Someone hired to kill the hero (can we call him Ratchett?)? Someone with a vendetta against Ratchett? Someone he knew before he got on the train?

And since I can't find that anyone else asked this, the murderer = H? A? M?

*********** SPOILER *************
This puzzle is based on a novel. The man who was killed was a rich trader who had shops in different cities. Every month end he used to travel from Mumbai (M) to Delhi (D) [both are big cities in India] to collect his money in cash. And come back from D to M by a train in the first class cabin. The waiters on the train knew about it and they planned to steal the money. They knew his habits for more than 6 month including preferred food, time of sleeping etc. The electric current was passed through the emergency chain - which is used to stop the train by pulling it - that is hanging near the berth. The staff manipulated the electric network so that only that particular chain carried high strength electric current from the train's grid. The shoes could have prevented the man's death as they had thick rubber & plastic base.
