Because Bob got stuck in heavy traffic driving to work on Monday, he was late for an important meeting that Friday. How can this be? |

Was he late to work on Monday? If so, did he miss something to do with the meeting on Friday? Was he late on Friday because of traffic? Was he deliberately late? |

Was he late to the meeting on Friday because he did not know that the meeting would be taking place at all? Because he knew of the meeting but had the wrong time in mind? Because he was unable to reach the meeting place in time, despite being correctly informed? Was the meeting the first thing to do at work on Friday? Did the meeting relate to work at all? |

Monday = four days before Friday? Is the sequence 1) Bob is stuck in traffic 2) Bob is late to his meeting? Is Bob being late for the meeting directly, or indirectly, attributable to his being delayed in traffic on Monday? Was the meeting at Bob's place of work? Was it at the same place to which Bob was driving on Monday? Relevant? |

On Monday, when Bob was stuck in traffic, was he actually late to work? If so, did he miss a meeting? Have to take a shorter lunch? Have to stay late? Not finish some piece of work? Have to work faster? Have to put something off until Tuesday? Does Bob work in an office? Relevant exactly what his job is? Location relevant [insert LTPF list of countries]? Time period relevant? It has to be after the invention of cars, so 19th century? 20th century? modern times? the future? Was he driving to work from his home? How long is his normal commute -- more than 10 minutes? 20? 30? 40? 50? an hour? 2 hours? 3 hours? |

Did Bob plan to do something on Monday but gave up this plan because of him being stuck in heavy traffic? Are any traffic violations relevant? |

Did he intend to drive to the important meeting on Friday? Or at least drive to an airport/train station/bus station? Did he actually set off to the meeting? Was he (again) caught in traffic? Did he get in a car accident? Did he have trouble with his car? Like, because he used more gas than he expected on Monday, he ran out of gas on Friday? Or did he have to do something else instead of going to the meeting? |

Was his navigation system sensitive to traffic conditions? So it routed him a different way friday? Or was he frustrated that his navigation system steered him into traffic on monday, so he turned it off? Was he using a GPS on monday? on friday? Did it function in a useful way on both days? |

Did he try to reprogram the GPS? to take him a different way to work? in order to avoid traffic? Was he late because he was trying to get around a place where (he thought) there was traffic? Does this puzzle have anything to do with the sometimes incorrect nature of GPS units? how they sometimes steer you in the wrong direction? |

So when he was going to work on monday, he was stuck in traffic, so he reprogrammed his GPS to reroute him? Relevant why he needed a GPS to get to work? Did the GPS then give him a longer route to the meeting on friday? Take him to a different place entirely? Fail to function at all? Is the fact that he was stuck in traffic Monday relevant beyond what specific modifications he made to his GPS? |

SPOILER Bob got stuck in traffic on the highway Monday, so he turned on the "Avoid Highways" option on the GPS to find an alternate route. Then he forgot to turn the option back off, so on Friday he got a longer route to his destination. (This was why the fact that the meeting was not at his usual work location was important - if it was at the usual location he would not have needed the GPS.)
