Rachel fell off the roof of a 4 floor building (she was kicked), but she landed on something and she survived. What did she land on? I think this is a hard puzzle. |

I believe you said the fact that she survived was not determined by what she landed on (while responding to Peter365) - therefore, wouldn't it not matter what she landed on? Did she land on something solid? soft? Did she land on soil? On Grass? on plants of some kind? |

If any of us ordinary folk were kicked off the roof would our chances of survival be the same? Or did she have something special in her favour? Is the location of the building important? Did she fall onto a pavement below? Did she travel down one of those huge rubbish chutes? Did she hit anything else on the way down from the roof? She didn't land on her feet - so did she land on her knees, back, butt, head? Did she experience any pain when she landed? |

When I asked about her being H A F only the middle one was irrelevant (being adult). So: A young child or baby could also survive in the same circumstances? It is relevant that she is female? |

She landed on the pavement! I thought this wouldn't happen, because you would normally not think she landed on the pavement since she survived. So the obvious question to answer now: Why did she survive? (My idea was that you should normally have to figure this out first before you can find out what she landed on - so Lynne has technically 'won'). |

Was she badly injured? Did she do anything while falling to minimize injury? Like slowing herself down? Did she do anything upon landing to minimize injury? Like rolling? Is it relevant that she was kicked? Is it relevan whether she fell from the roof, a window, etc.? |

Nice going, Lynne... So she actually fell four stories (approx, say, 40-ish feet) onto pavement, with no special equipment, and somehow survived? Nothing broke her fall in any way? If I'm wrong about her being drunk (the only thing I can think of is that her body was somehow relaxed, to minimize damage)... was she asleep? Unconscious? On some kind of medication? |

Was she badly injured? no Did she do anything while falling to minimize injury? no Like slowing herself down? no Did she do anything upon landing to minimize injury? no Like rolling? no Is it relevant that she was kicked? no Is it relevant whether she fell from the roof, a window, etc.? no Was she drunk? no (how would this save her?) Was it a full sized building? yes, 4 stories is usually about 12 meters So she actually fell four stories (approx, say, 40-ish feet) onto pavement, with no special equipment, and somehow survived? yes Nothing broke her fall in any way? no If I'm wrong about her being drunk (the only thing I can think of is that her body was somehow relaxed, to minimize damage)... was she asleep? yes Unconscious? if sleep is the same as unconscious, then yes On some kind of medication? no When I asked about her being H A F only the middle one was irrelevant (being adult). So: A young child or baby could also survive in the same circumstances? yes It is relevant that she is female? no Almost there... |

Being drunk might help because her body is loosened up - supposedly this can minimize damage (when you tense up is when you get really messed up...) Is she dreaming? |

I don't know, Natanz... I'm always a little let down when a movie uses "it was all a dream" as its ending/explanation, it seems like a cop-out. And maybe it's just me, but I feel the same way about lateral puzzles. I don't mean to denigrate your puzzle, but it has to be said - it could be argued that some of your answers were misleading or deceptive, if not outright lies. Like "was she actually physically kicked off?" - you said "yes". But the answer is no, she wasn't; she didn't really fall four stories and land on pavement. I don't mean to complain, I appreciate the effort you put into the puzzle. It's just that, for me, it's not a very satisfying answer... |

Yes I definitely understand that you could see it as a lie, although in her dream it was physical. For me, I thought the difficulty in this puzzle would be that nobody would think she would just fall to the ground since she survived, and you first had to figure out about the dream before you could guess she just landed on the ground. But yes, I'll try to answer more carefully next time. |

Don't know about the rest of you but if I dream I'm falling I usually wake up with a start long before I hit the ground . I too am not a big fan of the 'it was all a dream' ending but to each his own. Anyone old enough to remember how they brought Bobby Ewing back from the dead in Dallas . Now there was a "it was all a dream" plot that really sucked. |

I like it, Natanz. I think the amount of time it took for us to guess that answer shows that the "dream ending" is not quite so cliched as to be taken for granted. =) Maybe that should be part of our standard opening line of questioning: H? A? M? Is it all a dream? |

I think the "it was a dream" ending was appropriate here. Falling dreams are extremely common; therefore, "she was dreaming" was a reasonable answer to this puzzle. |
