Was it "oops" because they didn't trade? Did something happen because they didn't trade? Did someone die? What did they could have traded? Weapons, Clothing, Furniture, Electronics, Equipment, Writing, Awards, Valuable Goods, Buildings, Places, Food, Collectible Items? Was it just one object per each of them? Were all the objects the same? Were the objects valuable? Is a war relevant in this? Are the people famous/well known? If they had traded would that have changed an event in history? |

So three people didn't trade food and someone died. Did one of the three people die? Someone else? Did multiple people die? Did they commit suicide? Did the three people want one of the other people's food? What did they not trade? Fruit? Vegetables? Dairy? Meat? Grainy food? Sugary food? I like jokes! (Maybe it's Why did the chicken, the pizza and the chocolate bar cross the road? Because three men didn't trade them and also they got hit by a car and died.) |

Hanging? Immolation? Drowning? Fall? Freezing? Electrocution? Shooting? Starvation? Deadly animal? did they all use the same method? Did they all commit suicide together? Would they have died, had they not committed suicide? Suffered? Would they have traded a sandwitch for another sandwitch? Monty Python relevant? |

Are they of decent from any of the following groups: Italian? Polish? Greek? This. Russian? Amish? Mennonite? Mormon? Western European? Eastern European? From the US? This. South American? Mexican? And this. Pretty much any three ethnicities would work, given certain criteria (Amish, Mennonite and Mormon wouldn't work, for example, and not because they're religious). Any of several European cultures could be substituted. |

Did they do anything to try and remedy the situation on this day? Or did they only promise to kill themselves if they got the same food as always, and someone saw to it that they did? Did they trade sandwitches earlier that day to get something different, while at the same time their wives had all decided to make them something different? Or were sandwitches somehow traded and then traded back? |

Who usually makes their sandwiches? Their own wives? Two of them. Themselves? One of them. Who makes the sandwiches on this occasion? Their own wives? Two of them. Themselves? One of them. Did they do anything to try and remedy the situation on this day? No. Or did they only promise to kill themselves if they got the same food as always, and someone saw to it that they did? Yes. Did they trade sandwitches earlier that day to get something different, while at the same time their wives had all decided to make them something different? No. Or were sandwitches somehow traded and then traded back? No. You're making this more complex than it needs to be; remember it's based on a joke. By now you have pretty much everything you need to write out the whole story. |

OK, I'm going to give this one a shot: 3 construction workers (a Greek, a Mexican, and an American) are sitting on top of a building eating their lunches. The Greek says "I'm so sick of gyros. If there is a gyro in my lunchbox tomorrow, I'm going to throw myself off this building." The Mexican says "I'm so sick of tacos. If there is a taco in my lunchbox tomorrow, I'm going to throw myself off this building." The American says "I'm so sick of peanut butter sandwiches. If there is a peanut butter sandwich in my lunchbox tomorrow, I'm going to throw myself off this building." The next day at lunchtime, the men were sitting on top of the building opening their lunchboxes. The Greek opened his lunchbox, exclaimed "Dangit, my wife packed a gyro again!" and threw himself off the building. The Mexican opened his lunchbox, exclaimed "Dangit, my wife packed a taco again!" and threw himself off the building. The American opened his lunchbox, exclaimed "Dangit, I packed a peanut butter sandwich again!" and threw himself off the building. There's probably a much funnier way to say it, but I picture the joke making one of the ethnic groups look foolish by having its male representative not realize that he could have just started making his sandwich differently. Is this close? |

You've got it. Spoiler ********************* The way I heard it was the same except for the last paragraph: The next day at lunchtime, the men were sitting on top of the building opening their lunchboxes. The Greek opened his lunchbox, found a gyro, and threw himself off the building. The Mexican opened his lunchbox, found a taco, and threw himself off the building. The American opened his lunchbox, found a peanut butter sandwich, and threw himself off the building. At their joint funeral, the wives got together. The Greek's wife said, "If only he'd told me he was sick of gyros, I'd have fixed him something else!" The Mexican's wife said, "If only he'd told me he was sick of tacos, I'd have fixed him something else!" The American's wife said, "Don't look at me, he fixed his own lunch." |
