I have to say, I enjoyed reading Gourami's ecological puzzle, but it made me think of a completely different story. Apart from the puzzle statement, there's no connection. How did the desire for good fishing lead to death and destruction? |

Gourami enjoys having her name in puzzle titles. Also, I never realized this, but all the d words in this puzzle statement could totally be a Sandman reference. Did The death cause the destruction? Did the destruction cause the death? Did they both more or less directly stem from the desire? Was this a single incident? A long-term series of events? Was the death of people? A person? |

The death and destruction wouldn't have happened if not for him, let's leave it at that Maybe the place where he fishes was blocked off or something and he was angry? I'm going to say no, but you're not a million miles off |

Oh, so he was blast fishing for fish as this often illegal practice can be extremely destructive to the surrounding ecosystem, as the explosion often destroys the underlying habitat (such as coral reefs) that supports the fish. The frequently improvised nature of the explosives used also means danger for the fishermen as well, with accidents and injuries. |

No. My puzzle isn't nearly as serious and ecological as Gourami's was, and while there was an explosive involved, he wasn't blast fishing. There's still some work to do, but you've made good progress! |

Commercial dynamite or, more commonly, homemade bombs constructed using a glass bottle with layers of powdered potassium nitrate and pebbles or an ammonium nitrate and kerosene mixture might have been used? Such devices, though, may explode prematurely without warning, and have been known to injure or kill the person using them, or innocent bystanders. |

Was he near the body of water at the time? Is there any more death and destruction involved? Is the car, the dog and the man the only thing the dynamite blew up? The dog mistook the dynamite for a chase toy, fetched it, and brought it back? Death and destruction ensued? yep. **************SPOILER******************** This is a story about why drunken idiots and explosives don't mix. A man got a brand new Jeep and celebrated by going out and having a beer or twelve with his friends. Then they decided to go ice fishing, and drove the car out to the middle of a frozen pond. It's customary (albeit somewhat illegal) to create a hole in the ice using dynamite, and the man had a stick with a 20 second fuse, so he decided to throw it as far away as possible, for maximum safety. Unfortunately, he had brought his lab with him, and what are labs trained to do if not to retrieve stick-like objects? The dog fetched the dynamite, and the man, afraid for his life, started shouting, trying to get the dog to drop the "stick." When this only got the dog more excited, he took a few shots at it with a BB gun, at which point it realized its master had gone crazy, and ran for cover in the only place that provided cover in the immediate vicinity: under the car. Dog and car went up in a fiery explosion, all because the idiot man wanted to do some good fishing. |
