a man was standing on second base, waiting for the pitcher to wind up for a pitch, then he started running and made it home! But the point never counted... why is that?

Was the man playing the game of baseball? According to the rules set forth in Major League Baseball?
Is he participating in an actual baseball game?
home=home plate?
Had the batter hit the ball in fair territory? Did the batter fly out? Did the batter get a base hit?
If this scenario had happened in a "normal" game, would the run have counted?

A man = HAM A + B (Alive and Breathing)
Pitcher = HAM A + B (Alive and Breathing)
Did the man make a mistake? The pitcher?
Era/Location/Profession relevant? Are they professional baseball players? Relevant where they were playing? On an official baseball court? Was it a recorded game? In a league or tournament? Relevant?

So it the puzzle a play on words?
Because home can mean:
home plate or his actual house.
If he ran to his actual house rather than running to home PLATE, of course the point would never be counted.
Is this the answer?

Was the home he was running to a real baseball home plate? Was it a house? Was it the place where the umpire and catcher were?
Would the player be angry that his point didn't count? Did he think it would when he ran?

Did the man run directly home without "rounding third"? As in, straight from second base to home?

Did he run to his own home? Perhaps because he heard his mother calling him for supper?
