I'm going to do what I said and post my "take" on a recent puzzle. This is my first lateral puzzle! Yay! It bit me! |

Is it alive? If so, HAM? No. Assuming you really mean "it", not "me". |

Is it an object? A machine? A tool? Cold? Has it ever been alive? |

Fun (: Did it physically bite you? Just cause physical pain? Bite you in some other sense? Is it electricity? Fire? Did it "come back to bite you"? Does it have literal teeth? |

Is it an object?Yes. A machine? Part of one. A tool? Depends on your definition of "tool". Cold? No, assume room temperature. Has it ever been alive? No. |

Did it physically bite you?No. Just cause physical pain?Yesish Bite you in some other sense?Clarify Is it electricity?YES Fire?No Did it "come back to bite you"?No Does it have literal teeth? No There is an FA lurking in a bunch of these. |

Were you playing with a piezoelectric ignitor? From a cigarette lighter? Similar? Or was it mains voltage? High voltage? Were you poking inside some equipment? Power outlet? Did it bite your: finger(s)? hand? Foot? Leg? Torso? Arm? Head? Face? Was there any visible damage? |

Were you playing with a piezoelectric ignitor? From a cigarette lighter? Similar? Or was it mains voltage?Yes, no to previous. High voltage? Were you poking inside some equipment? Power outlet? This was involved Did it bite your: finger(s)?This, no to rest hand? Foot? Leg? Torso? Arm? Head? Face? Was there any visible damage?Probably not You are probably as far as you will get without addressing the FA (which is still implicit in the above) |

Is "me" you? Are you HAM? True story? From your imagination? Could we replace "it" by "electricity" in the puzzle statement? Could we replace "me" by "Biograd"? Is it correct to say that you got an electric shock? That it was painful? Whence, the bite metaphor? |

Is "me" you?NO Are you HAM?Well, I am, but "me" is H and M, not A True story?Yes From your imagination? Could we replace "it" by "electricity" in the puzzle statement?Noish Could we replace "me" by "Biograd"?No, see above Is it correct to say that you got an electric shock?"Me" certainly did That it was painful?Yes Whence, the bite metaphor?Yes There goes the FA. Good going. |

Was the child playing with a toy? or playing with something else? of metal? Did he happen to put a part if what he held into a power outlet? and got an electric shock? but thought it was what he held in his hand that had "bitten" him? |

Can we call "me" Brian? So, did Brian get an electric shock? By touching something? And thought he had been bitten by the something? And so "it" would refer to the something in question? Assuming this is correct, is "it" a device? A machine? Electrically powered? Larger than an armchair? Than a breadbox? Than a golf ball? Can "it" move? Did Brian think "it" was alive? Would you find "it" in an apartment? An office? Is "it" something you usually find outside? Inside? In a particular room? Kitchen? Bedroom? Living room? Bathroom? |

Did Brian stick something metallic into a power outlet? A fork? Knife? (Knitting)needle? Which led to him getting shocked? |

Can we call "me" Brian?Sure So, did Brian get an electric shock? By touching something? And thought he had been bitten by the something? And so "it" would refer to the something in question?Yes to all Assuming this is correct, is "it" a device?Yes A machine?Essentially part of one, though I dont know if "machine" is the best word Electrically powered?Yes Larger than an armchair? No Than a breadbox?Likely this Than a golf ball?Definitely this Can "it" move? No, that's why "machine" might not be the best Did Brian think "it" was alive?Probably no Would you find "it" in an apartment? An office?Yes to both Is "it" something you usually find outside? Inside? This In a particular room? Kitchen? Bedroom? Living room? Bathroom?Any room may contain one of these Note, I forget what the "yesish machine" exactly was, so for the puzzle I'm pretending it's the one that first comes to mind. Though the relevant thing is that it uses electrical power. The "it" most likely referred to part of this object, though could technically be construed as applying to it as a whole. |

Oh, sorry Tommyp. One more post should do it now... Was the child playing with a toy?No or playing with something else?Yes of metal?Partly Did he happen to put a part if what he held into a power outlet?Yes and got an electric shock?Yes but thought it was what he held in his hand that had "bitten" him?Yes Did Brian stick something metallic into a power outlet?Yes A fork? Knife? (Knitting)needle? No, more obvious Which led to him getting shocked?Yes |

A paperclip? No A broken power plug with exposed wires/metal parts? Or a wet one?Neither, just an ordinary plug OK, I think you all believe it to be more lateral than it really is, so I'll just end it here. He was plugging in just that...a plug... and the reason he got shocked was simply that he didn't know not to touch the prongs (he was a little kid)! So, here's the ****************SPOILER************************ At a summer camp I went to way back in middle school, a physics teacher told me a story about when his son was tiny. The son (we've been calling him Brian) wanted to plug in a small electrical device (I'm guessing a lamp, as this is the most likely plug-in thing to be just sitting around unplugged), but clearly he hadn't taken his parents' warnings about electrical safety too seriously. So, he held the prongs with his fingers, resulting in a nice little shock, at which point he said "Daddy, it bit me!". His dad asked him what was going on, and after he explained, the dad (no doubt after freaking out a little) laughed at the comment. The image was amusing enough that I still remember that little story over 10 years later. As for the title, I was trying to think of a pun or something that would fit this situation, and the following joke came to mind-- Q: What did the parent say after he caught his kid playing with an electrical outlet? A: You're guilty as charged! I promise my next one will be more challenging. |

Thanks for the puzzle and the cute story (: Where do you live? Here in Sweden the power outlets are designed to prevent this from happening, the pins are not energized until the plug is almost fully seated. I got bitten by mains voltage once when I poked inside an electrical fan, and another time when I forgot to unplug a circuit I was working on. And countless other times by non-mains voltages from my many years of having electronics as my primary hobby. I hate it. |

You would think the way they do it in Sweden is the most logical. I don't know why they never did that here. |

When my Dad was three, he stuck his finger in an electrical socket. He claims it was this shocking experience that inspired him to become an electrical engineer. |
