The job = to steal something? to secure what was stolen before? to escape? to sell stolen goods? to make a plan for stealing something? Are the thieves H? A? M? Are they really thieves? If so: professional ones? They needed a train ride - but did they get what they needed? Did they (need to) go by train themselves? Someone else to go by train? Send something by train? Kind of train: regular passenger train? chartered passenger train? freight train? track maintenance train? Model railways relevant? 30 minute = half an hour? |

Did they transport the stolen items on the train? Would this even have been possible, given what they were stealing? Did they use the train to get to the location(s) in which they stole? Was there only a single theft that is relevant for the puzzle? or a series? |

Did they return to their point of origin with the stolen goods? Or leave them somewhere else? If they had sent another person by train, would that person also be doing the stealing? |

Is the order of events something like this: 1. go from origin to location 1 2. steal something 3. go to location 2 4. steal something more 5. go to location 3 6. stash, sell or use stolen goods 7. job finished Is point 5 the 30 minute train ride? Are they in cities? Both in the same city? Are the thieves related to the locations? Such as being employees there? Do they have to defeat/bypass: Employees? Guards? Dogs? Doors? Locks? Alarms? Did they steal: clothes? Something they hid under their clothes? In their pockets? In something else? Were the items for sale in the stores? Was the theft done the same way in both stores? Would having some of the items beforehand have helped in location 1 as well? In location 2, did the items from location 1 help: before the theft itself? during the act? Afterwards? Did they steal: clothes? no Something they hid under their clothes? no In their pockets? no In something else? the story doesn't say what they used to carry the stolen goods Were the items for sale in the stores? yes Was the theft done the same way in both stores? yes Would having some of the items beforehand have helped in location 1 as well? the word 'help' is inaccurate now. When I answered yes to an earlier q with this word it seemed helpful (sorry, no pun intended), but it's now leading to a false train of thought. They just needed to steal from both locations, it didn't matter whether they started with location 1 or location 2 as long as they went to both In location 2, did the items from location 1 help: before the theft itself? during the act? Afterwards? Were employees shown the items from location 1? definitely not |

Did they steal something particularly: valuable? Useful? Pretty? Tasty? They stole [object], could the store they stole form be called an [object]-store? Was their job to steal a certain amount of this object, which is why they had to go to another store when the first one didn't have enough? Is each of the stolen objects smaller than a: pin head? Stolen objects: electronics? Cell phones? Did they have any set criteria for when they'd stolen enough? Or was it just that the first store had very few of the item, so they were disappointed and decided to go to another store to steal more? Or did they know that neither store carried enough of the item, and planned the trip beforehand? Did they empty both stores for this item? Were they looking for a particular brand or model of the item? Such as iPhones? |

Is this one of those shoe stores that only puts one shoe of each type out on display, and the sales person has to go to the back storage room to bring you your size? If yes to the above question, did one store display only right shoes, and the other display only left shoes? Does this have something to do with the border they crossed? Were our thieves fortunate enough to wear the standard display model size? Or, are these shoes that are for some purpose other than to be worn by people (given that you said the stolen items aren't clothes)? Such as horse shoes? A shoe for a type of machinery? Something decorative? |

Is this one of those shoe stores that only puts one shoe of each type out on display, and the sales person has to go to the back storage room to bring you your size? yes indeed If yes to the above question, did one store display only right shoes, and the other display only left shoes? spot on Does this have something to do with the border they crossed? yes Were our thieves fortunate enough to wear the standard display model size? irrelevant Or, are these shoes that are for some purpose other than to be worn by people (given that you said the stolen items aren't clothes)? mea culpa, I consider clothes to be separate from shoes, although if the word used was clothing then I would include shoes. A question of whether they hid them 'under their clothes' reinforced this image for me. My apologies if this has confused everybody Such as horse shoes? A shoe for a type of machinery? Something decorative? ******* SPOILER *********** According to a story in The Times on Tuesday, two thieves in Malmo, Sweden, stole 7 left shoes that had been on display. Traditionally the Swedes display the left hand shoes, whereas over the border in Copenhagen, Denmark, the Danes display the right shoe. These were expensive designer shoes, not surprisingly sold in both countries; the 7 pairs were worth about 900 pounds sterling. |
