The next day she took an axe to it. Why? Did it have its roots? "Took an axe to it" = chopped it down? chopped of a limb? Or all limbs? Or just showed the axe to the tree and warned that if it didn't behave, it knew what to expect? When she put the tree in her garden, did she know she would take an axe to it the next day? She=H?A?M? Relevant what kind of tree it was? Was it a christmas tree? Was her intent to re-purpose the tree parts? Was her intent to slightly alter the tree? Perhaps to make it smaller so that it would fit into the house? Exactly - she bought the Christmas tree and after the season ended she put it into the garden and later chopped it up. I will have to pick a tougher one next time - you guys are too good at this!
