Was his life saved temporarily, but ultimately he died from it? Or was his life saved by the thing on one occasion, but it killed him on another occasion? Can it be said that "He was killed by the same object that saved his life"? Seatbelts relevant? Airbags? Other car safety systems? Are vehicles relevant at all? |

Was his life saved temporarily, but ultimately he died from it? Or was his life saved by the thing on one occasion, but it killed him on another occasion? Both of these statements are close. His life was saved by the thing on one occasion, but ultimately he died from it (the thing) Can it be said that "He was killed by the same object that saved his life"? yes, but that's probably not how one would put it. Seatbelts relevant? Airbags? Other car safety systems? Are vehicles relevant at all? no |

Did someone try to poison him with nicotine, but because ha was a smoker he had such a high tolerance of nicotine that he survived? and there it is! **************SPOILER*************************** In the movie "Thank You for Smoking," the hero is a cigarette lobbyist, and at one point extremists try to kill him by covering his entire body in nicotine patches. It turns out that as a lifelong smoker, he has a high enough tolerance to survive until medical attention arrives. Of course, he uses this as a part of his lobby, that "smoking saved his life." But I imagine that this guy probably eventually died of lung cancer, so he was killed by the same thing that saved his life. I honestly expected this one to be solved as soon as you figured out that the attempted murder was through skin poisoning and that "it" was nicotine. Apparently this tapped into an assumption I didn't know people had - but nicotine, in high enough concentrations (in any concentration, really) is poison. Way to go Balin and Galfisk for tag-teaming to the finish line! |

Sorry I missed this one. I did a puzzle years ago about killing someone with a nicotine patch. I called it 'Don't try this at home'. I know how lethal nicotine is to the non-smoker as I only took a very few chews of some nicotine gum and have never felt so bad as I did for hours afterwards. |
