Several months ago I saw a front-page newspaper article about something that affected most of the US. I was not surprised to see it as a headline, but my reaction when I first saw it was to scream! However, had the same story been published in almost any other newspaper, I probably would not have reacted this way. Why not? |

So the headline was SN-4 letters?yes Of the 4 letters, is there one vowel? Two? Three?this Four? Zero? This is as much as you're gonna get from me just narrowing down the letters....no LTPF list of letters or anything allowed. There is another approach that will prove more fruitful, namely, finding out where this paper was published, and why I would not have screamed had the article been published in another city |

All right, I have successfully confused myself. Again. haha Recap please?certainly RECAP: I saw a headline in the Louisiana State University newspaper, the Daily Reveille. The headline was one word, SN_ _ _ _. The article was about snow, and the headline sounds like "snow." The four letters are vowel-vowel-vowel-consonant, and none of the letters are O or W. If this same story were in any other newspaper, it is unlikely that I would have reacted the same way (that way being a frustrated, annoyed scream) because the pun being made in the headline is so specific to Southern Louisiana, specifically LSU. This pun is related to Louisiana culture, and LSU student culture in some way, but is not confined to any specific group of students. It is yope-ishly related to a sports team. |

Would one have to say it with a Louisiana accent in order to get it to pronounce like "SNOW"?no, but you would not pronounce it with strict american english phonetics, either... Or could anyone say it and get the pronunciation?yes, for svv of "anyone" Cajun food relevant? no |

Do you have to pronounce it in a certain accent to get the "snow" effect? One that is typically found in Louisiana? On the LSU campus? Is "Talk Like a Pirate Day" or one of those other silly holidays relevant? |

Is the Cajun relevant thing something that would be considered stereotypical? An action? Activity? Profession? Is alcohol involved? Seafood? Spicy food? |

Is sports involved? Would this be mostly relevant to men? Women? Either? Sorry, I don't know much about Cajun culture - just trying to guess here. |

Oh, now that I think of it I might have seen an ad for Cajun food at a train station that made a pun like this, and thought it was awful--except the pun was on the word "go". I'm not sure if it was based on the same word, as I didn't understand it, and don't even remember what the spelling was. But just as a guess, were the letters "eaux"? I know this is a common ending for French words, and since Cajuns descended from the French, I would guess this. |

I know this is a common ending for French words, and since Cajuns descended from the French, I would guess this. And you would be correct! ******* SPOILER ********** I saw the headline "SNEAUX!" Something unfortunate that has arisen from LSU's being situated in Cajun country... the use of the suffix "eaux" in the most irritating ways. It's a common suffix for Cajun surnames, like Boudreaux or Thibodeaux. Notably annoying, the common spelling of cheers for LSU's sports teams is "Geaux Tigers!" This has always driven me nuts, but I've gradually come to accept it. Kind of a weird perversion of the french-derived Cajun culture, but whatever. When I went to school the morning after a rare Louisiana snow, though, to see the headline "SNEAUX" on the LSU paper, the irritation at the pun was too much to suppress, and I had to let out a scream. |

Nice one! I've seen those "Geaux Tigers" signs when watching LSU football games on TV, and I can see how constantly seeing it can be a pain. But "SNEAUX"...I want to scream now too. |
