This: Some advice? An item? Some smart-aleck saying? An idea? A memory? Help me: Out of danger? An embarrising/ awkward situation? Stage fright? Fear of messing something up? A sudden case of memory loss? Now: The situation in which help is needed is already ongoing? Or upcoming? Me: H/A/M? Other persons involved? More than one? Animals involved? |

One single item? Or several? Is fire involved? Water? (Danger of) falling? Is the person's life in danger? His health? His reputation? His freedom? His money? Something else that belongs to him? Can we assume that he got the item just a moment ago? Has somebody given it to him? Has it fallen into his hands? Did he find it? Had he expected/hoped to have it before he got into the situation in which he is now? Would the item have helped him if he had gotten it just a little earlier? |

Lose his balance? Was he forced to jump? Is the item a parachute? A rope? Something that could've helped him keep his balance? Something that would've effectively prevented his fall? Something he could've defended himself with against someone? |

So he was skydiving, right? Did he get the item while free falling or after he opened parachute? Was he able to open parachute? Would the item helped him earlier during the fall? before jumping of the plane? before boarding the plane? |

Did he have the item at some earlier point? Earlier during the fall? Before jumping off the plane? Before boarding the plane? If so, did he lose it? Misplace it? Was it taken away from him? Is the item related to skydiving/ dealing with heights in general? or is it something completely different, like something to eat, for example? |

Was he going to fall to his death? Land on something dangerous? Or in dangerous territory? And the item would have prevented his death (had he gotten it earlier)? He acquired this item during the fall? Was it an item that could fly or float? A bird? A model plane? |

Was his parachute fully functional? Was it an item that was also falling? Had it fallen from the plane? Or was the item being somehow being somehow thrown or shot upwards when it "met" him? |

Was the item in the air before he acquired it? Or was it part of his gear he didn't noticed earlier? Was it thrown, shot or somehow propelled into the air from the ground? Was it thrown down from some aircraft, higher ground or something like that? Was it something he lost during jump? When he acquired the item, was he just above the ground, lets say less than 5 meters? 10m? 50m? 100m? 500m? 1km? More? Did he opened the parachute? Then he found out there is something wrong with it? Did he cut away the main chute? If so was something wrong with the reserve parachute, too? |

Let me summarize, the guy was able to open the parachute but it turned out that it's not fully functional and hence he is still falling to his death, right? Had the item fallen from/ out of the parachute? After it had opened? Was it something with wich the guy could've fixed the parachute? A needle and thread maybe? xD Something that could've made him see that something was wrong with the parachute? Some manual? Did he use the parachute correctly or accidently damaged it? |

Was it real parachute? Or was it just a backpack? Was the item in the backpack and when he opened it the item fell out and he caught it? Was he too low to use the item properly? If the altitude was higher, would he be able to save his life with the item? |

Was the item, if acquired in right time able to save his life? Or just help him in some other way? Did someone mistaken his parachute with backpack and filled it with stuff, thus making it dysfunctional? |

Is he dead at the time of the puzzle statement? Dying? Injured? Does the item fall from the opened parachute? Did he accidentally pack the item with the parachute? Or was it the parachute? Did the parachute open too late? |

They did a bit on Whose Line is it Anyway about the worst things that can come out of your backpack instead of a parachute. I believe they included confetti, mini snickers bars, and a book entitled "What to do when your chute won't open." Any of these relevant? :-) |

No to all Does the item fall from the opened parachute? Yes Did he accidentally pack the item with the parachute? No Or was it the parachute? No Did the parachute open too late? No They did a bit on Whose Line is it Anyway about the worst things that can come out of your backpack instead of a parachute. I believe they included confetti, mini snickers bars, and a book entitled "What to do when your chute won't open." Any of these relevant? :-) That's exactly it! **********SPOILER********** The guy is skydiving, but instead of a parachute, a book pops out titled "What to do when your parachute doesn't open." Hence the comment. As Ohlala figured out, the title referred to an episode of Whose Line is it Anyway?, where the situation comes from. The game was Scenes from a Hat, and Colin Mochrie was the one who came up with the line. (Greg Proops came up with the miniature Snickers idea, in case anyone's wondering.) Nice job to Viniter, Potato, and all the rest of you for the groundwork, and Ohlala for the dead-on solve. |

I like Whose Line too; that line's typical Colin Mochrie, I think. But, um, wouldn't that book be the BEST think to come out of your pack at a moment like that? People have survived high-altitude-no-openings before... |
