I don't know how to categorize this, it's a sort of midway between an idiomuzzle and a connection-finding puzzle... anyway, give it a try, we'll see what happens... "Chat and distinctive!" |

Ok, 3 days without a questions, that means you're losing interest in it, so let's recap and give a hint: RECAP: Your objective is to find a quote from a 1980s' drama-thriller movie, which, connected in a certain way, leads to "Chat and distinctive!" Until now we've found that the word "talk" is part of the solution, and more in detail it is part of the phrase connected to "chat". No progress has been made concerning "distinctive". HINT: we're talking about a very famous quote, at least in Italy, though the movie is american; nonetheless, I was quite surprised to find out that it is not part of the AFI list of 100 most famous film quotes. |

So the quote would be "You're nothing but a lot of talk and a badge", correct? And the badge would be "distinctive" because it gives the wearer a position of authority, distinguishing him/her from the masses....something like that? |

So the quote would be "You're nothing but a lot of talk and a badge", correct? Exactly so! Doesn't it deserve a place in that list btw? And the badge would be "distinctive" because it gives the wearer a position of authority, distinguishing him/her from the masses....something like that? Your reasoning is globally correct, but there is a more direct connection between the word "badge" and the word "distinctive". A very lateral one, I'd say... let's see if you find it before I give some other hint... |

Anything to do with awards? There is a badge of distinction which is a military medal i believe. The line "We don't need no stinking badges" has been adapted over the years. It first appeared in the movie "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" although not quite as quoted here. It actually qoes "Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges! I don't have to show you any stinkin' badges!" . The more commonly known version which I quoted appears in Mel Brook's classic western spoof "Blazing Saddles" . If you've not seen that movie then that should be high on your to do list |

Relevant that you're Italian? YES!!! Is the Italian word for "badge" relevant? Exactly! For "distinctive"? So not this, but still I think you've worked it out enough to declare the ***************** SPOILER ***************** In the Italian version of The Untouchables the famous quote "You're nothing but a lot of talk and a badge!" has been translated as "Sei solo chiacchiere e distintivo!"; now, "chiacchiere" is simply translated as "chat", but "distintivo" may both mean "badge" if it's used as a noun and "distinctive" if used as an adjective. While watching that movie again last week I was wondering how it would sound in english to "literally" translate the two words, of course with the objective of making a puzzle out of it :-) Good job everybody, hope you enjoyed it, and special mention to Balin for sticking with this till the end! |

Well even just De Niro starring Al Capone is worth the movie... then if you consider Sean Connery, Kevin Costner and Andy Garcia (I guess it was the first major roles for the two latter), well... yes, I recommend it :-) |
