Alternate soldier in skirt. A recent puzzle type made famous by user "It_so_happened", the goal is to find the words that fill in the sentence by finding words that are related or synonyms for the words in red. In this case, there are intermediate stages. The words will go from red to orange to green to blue, with blue being the final word. Take a look at his previous puzzles "Degrees of Separation" and "3 Degrees" to see how this works. I hope this one is nearly as well thought out as his have been, otherwise this will be my one and only attempt *smilie face*. It's hard to judge the difficulty of these, but I'm giving you all the benefit of the doubt. |

Cool! After making some, I was hoping I would get the chance to solve one! =) Are "Alternate" and "soldier" two distinct words, or do they go together? Skirt: as in dress? Or as in avoid, or go around? |

There was bit of foreshadowing in the opening paragraph when I mentioned that this one might be my one and only attempt, thus this puzzle itself might end up being a flash in the pan. Hope it wasn't a flash in the pan: I think this genre has legs. The lateral thinking really comes in towards the end, when your solver's got one eye on the eventual solution. It's a bit like the old Lewis Carroll CAT-COT-COG-DOG game but with words. Me likes. |

Nice one. This and the other puzzles of its type are/were fun to solve, but I guess I'm more of a 'Classic' lateral puzzle style fan. It is a good point about the tough work toward the end, which this style has in common with all lateral puzzles. |
