You say the location is relevant. But it could be any continent (and consequently, any country...even Antarctica which is 'no man's land'...would this work if U&D were penguins? So by location, you must not mean geographic, but more general... A pharmacy? (Walgreens is giving flu shots out in my area. They also sell birthday cards.) |

And how many penguins have beliefs about birthdays? So by location, you must not mean geographic, but more general... Some countries may be more likely than others, but any country is possible. I was teasing about the penguins. You didn't specify that Antarctica wouldn't work, and it has no permanent human residents, I believe, LOL. A hospital? At U&D's home(s)? Are they related? Do they live together? Apart? Do they even know each other? (Clearly U knows of D, but one may know of someone without knowing them.) Is D a famous person? |

Clarification: By "worked as well" I meant whether she could have sung another song for the same purpose, not whether another song would have lead someone to think it was her birthday. |

Was Delphine washing her hands? Was she singing Happy Birthday to make sure that she washed her hands for long enough? |

So when she was in a ladies' room with Delphine & someone else, who sang that song, using Delphine's name while hand-washing, she figured that it was Delphine's birthday. Sorry it was so easy, & please check out my new, harder puzzle you know where. |

I've actually always heard to sing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" or "The ABCs" (which are really the same song, of course), but I can see how Happy Birthday would work just as well. And it certainly makes for a better lateral puzzle. |

I've heard this advice before; I actually heard it first in kindergarten, but never again until the swine flu scare. |
