Coranell bought a book she didn't want. Then she put it in a drawer, & never opened it. No one pressured her to buy the book, & she did not know the author, How come? |

could she have achieved the same effect by buyig the book then throwing it away? giving it away? does it need to be a book for the puzzle to work? does it need to be something readable? did something happen after buying the book that made her put it in a drawer? wehn she bought it did she intend to put it in a drawer? is it necessary for the puzzle that she buy it? that she keep it? is she hiding it? is she intending anyone else to read it? intending to read it herself? did she buy the book to gain a benefit? for herself? for someone else? did she buy it to avoid a disbenefit? to herself? to someone else? were her actions altruistic? self interested? criminal? immoral? rational? ws there a misunderstanding? a trick involved? relevant what book? fiction? non fiction? with pictures? was she replacing a book she had damaged? was she making some kind of statement by doing this? sending some kind of message? is her job relevant? her age? her appearance? her race? her politics? her hobbies? her romatic relationships? did anyone know she bought the book? relevant? did anyone know she put it in a drawer? relevant? |

Does she intend to use it as a time capsule of some kind (i.e., a record of an event in the present that will hopefully be discovered long in the future)? |

Oh, I just realized that there was already a "no" to "sending some kind of message", so I guess the thing about the time capsule is wrong... Is the book banned? Is there any other reason why the book may be hard to get in the future? Does she have some superstitious/fairy tale belief that something will happen if she keeps a book in her drawer? |

Is it a book her parents don't want her reading (for example, if they're very religious)? If so, one of the Harry Potter series? The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings? His Dark Materials trilogy? Twilight or one of its sequels? |

Does she simply do it to spite them? Or is there some reason she actually wants the book? Is there something else she keeps in the same drawer that she doesn't want her parents to see (like a diary) and figures that if they look in her drawer, they will likely either comment on the book or remove it? |

Is she hiding something in the book? Relevant where she bought the book? The manner of payment? Does Coranell want to upset her parents? Did she put it in her own drawer? Someone else's? So her parents would get mad at that person, thinking he or she had bought the book, not Coranell? Maybe an annoying sibling? |

Does the girl intend to act as if she never baught the book (e.g. not look at it, open it etc.) Is the book exactly the same as when she baught it? Is it a normal book for a little girl to have\want? |

This wasn't an easy rule to enforce, since another family rule was that no one but me was allowed to look in my top dresser drawer, where I kept secret things. So naturally, I bought a comic book & stored it there to see whether my parents snooped. Years later, when I told them about this, they were horrified."How could you ever have thought we would open your private drawer?" Please see my new puzzle you know where. |

Clever! I'm wondering, though, what was the reason behind the rule against comic books. And do you mean comic books as in superheroes or as in comic strips? |

My parents thought comic books were on a low intellectual level, which they were, but so what? And they had no objection to other nonintellectual things, such as comic strips or dolls (of which I had ever 40). |

I thought I already guessed the answer, and you said yesish to it, but then somehow the guesses got "cold" again, so I assumed I had been OTRT. But anyway, your parents' ban does sound like it was rather stupid. |

Yes, I thought the ban was pretty dumb, too. But I never had a curfew, nor did my parents object when I stopped being Jewish at age 12. So overall, I think I did very well in the parent department. |
