did the revenge mean that the cabdriver got some extra money? did it mean that the passenger lost some money? was the passesnger embarrassed? physically hurt? upset? did this involve the passenger getting back in the cab? getting into another cab? ending up in the wrong place? were there any other relevamt passengers? relevant where this happens? which country? US? |

This is one of my favourite puzzles. It first appeared as The Cabbie's Revenge in my book Perplexing Lateral Thinking Puzzles published in 1997. http://www.amazon.com/Perplexing-Lateral-Thinking-Puzzles-Sloane/dp/0806997672/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1292759224&sr=1-1 I often use this puzzle in creative thinking workshops. Good puzzling! Paul Sloane |

All righty, the solution: The passenger was going to see the play The Mousetrap by Agatha Christie, and the cabbie told him who the killer was, thus $poyling his trip and his fun. |

Felicia, There was no need to spoil. You could have carried on. I do not mind puzzles from the books appearing here but I prefer that an acknowledgement and a link are provided. All the best Paul Sloane |

************** SPOILER ****************** The cabdriver was taking the passenger to the long-running whodunit play "The Mousetrap," As the man was leaving the cab without tipping the driver, the driver told him the ending. |

Ooh, wouldn't it be really ironic if one of us now got revenge on Nimue for spoiling this before we did by telling her who did it? But I won't. Even though when I looked the play up on Wikipedia to see something about it and the play of the same name in Hamlet, it said "the ending is secret. X did it." only it said who X was and said it a bit more eloquently than that. But I won't spoil (should it be $poil since we aren't actually talking about a puzzle here?) it for anyone out there. |
