Is the Fyope a (less crude?) variant of F***? (The one I use is Feth, cribbed from a science fiction series.) Continental tree - European? Some other continent? Found all over a continent? |

I know (thanks to Wikipedia) of two versions of this tree, each of which is specific to a certain continent. Found all over a continent? |

So it's a certain kind of tree, which is specific to a certain continent (well, each of its two versions is specific to a different one)? North America? South America? Africa? Asia? Australia? (I won't bother with Antarctica...and you ruled Europe out) |

Greg Koch the former offensive lineman in the NFL for the Packers and others? Greg Koch the rock guitarist (although I don't believe he has a wiki article)? Greg Koch the guy who runs Stone Brewing Company? Is it a real Mr. Koch? Or a fictional one? From a TV show? Movie? Book? Back to the obscenity - is it a form of the word F*** (like F***ing)? And the extremely anxious person - a specific person? Or a general term? Nutcase? Ooh, while we're on the topic of nuts - does the tree have nuts? And does the obscenity relate to male genitals (aka "nuts")? And maybe Mr. Koch was a peanut farmer? Although I don't know who that would be. |

Is the tree domesticated? Was it transferred by humans from one continent to the other? If so, to which continent (Africa or Australia) is it originally native? They're not the same type of tree; they just share the same common name (except for the contintental part). Is it a fruit tree? No to both Is it profitable? Irrel to both Grown on plantations? No to both, I think Greg Koch the former offensive lineman in the NFL for the Packers and others? Greg Koch the rock guitarist (although I don't believe he has a wiki article)? Greg Koch the guy who runs Stone Brewing Company? It's not a Greg Koch - I meant that a version of the "certain Mr. Koch's" name was in the list. Is it a real Mr. Koch? It is Or a fictional one? From a TV show? Movie? Book? Back to the obscenity - is it a form of the word F*** (like F***ing)? No - it's F*** plus something else And the extremely anxious person - a specific person? No Or a general term? Yes Nutcase? No Ooh, while we're on the topic of nuts - does the tree have nuts? Neither And does the obscenity relate to male genitals (aka "nuts")? No And maybe Mr. Koch was a peanut farmer? No Although I don't know who that would be. |

Let's keep things in order with a RECAP: A certain obscenity -> "F--- [something]" An extremely anxious person -> a general term A continental tree -> African [blank] and Australian [same blank] A certain Mr. Koch -> someone who has not been featured on the LTPF yet Also, each chain will have 2 or 3 steps before the connection. And the Internet is your friend. |

HINTS: Connection #1: The obscenity is specific to a single person (as far as I know). Connection #2: Think psychiatry. Connection #3: The "blank" is one compound word. Connection #4: Occupation is relevant. |

Nicknamed the "cast-iron man" for his determination to defend the causes in which he believed, Calhoun supported states' rights and nullification, under which states could declare null and void federal laws which they deemed to be unconstitutional. |

Nicknamed the "cast-iron man" for his determination to defend the causes in which he believed, Calhoun supported states' rights and nullification, under which states could declare null and void federal laws which they deemed to be unconstitutional. Wikipedia has served thee well - that is exactly what I was looking for. So here's a RECAP - Four IRON MEN. A certain obscenity -> "F--- Face" -> Billy Ripken -> Cal Ripken Jr (IRON MAN of baseball) An extremely anxious person -> Paranoid -> A continental tree -> African [blank] and Australian [same blank] -> A certain Mr. Koch -> Billy Koch -> Clemson University -> Thomas Green Clemson -> John C. Calhoun ("cast-IRON MAN" of Congress) HINT: If you get stuck, try working backwards: figure out what the last two "Iron Men" are, and work backwards through the chains. |

Blackwood was the villain in Sherlock Holmes, Robert Downey Jr. was Sherlock Holmes...and Robert Downey Jr. was Iron Man in the 2008 and 2010 films! A deduction worthy of Holmes (or should I say Downey...) himself! That is exactly what I was looking for. Third chain complete - only one more, and that chain shouldn't take too long at all. |
