Well, that certainly shook things up...in fact, it tried to throw them at me. |

I hope not either, it was in italics, and I didn't mean it. I really am tired, I think I shall go to bed soon. |

True story? "me" = you, Kaylee? The event - something newsworthy? An earthquake? |

True story? "me" = you, Kaylee? exactly so, me! The event - something newsworthy? An earthquake? precisely, an earthquake! this wasn't very long in the working out...all that needs figuring out now is what nearly got "thrown" at me because of the quake... |

An object in your house? about six or seven of the same sort of object. (hence why I said "them" and not "it") |

Plates? Dishes? Chairs? Cups? Food related? Recreational? Recreational is closest. Some people collect them as a hobby. They are breakable, like certain sorts of plates and dishes, though. |

Snowglobes? that's right! ***SPOILER*** Yesterday, at 4:10 PM local time (that's 10 minutes past midnight for my friends in the UK) there was a 4.1 earthquake here. I was sitting at my desk, writing my LotR fanfiction with my friends, when my desk rocked forward and a few of my snowglobes slid forward on the shelf at the top of my desk, nearly falling of. Luckily they slid back again and there were no accidents! Thankfully, no injuries to property or people, and no deaths, were reported in this relatively minor quake. |

(AP) SAN FRANCISCO - A minor earthquake has jolted San Jose and the surrounding region. The U.S. Geological Survey says a temblor with a magnitude of 4.1 hit at 4:10 p.m. Friday. It was centered 13 miles southeast of downtown San Jose around 4:10 p.m. Friday. The quake was strong enough to be felt in San Francisco, 60 miles to the north. San Jose police say no damages or injuries have been reported. |

Nice puzzle! I've never experienced an earthquake - have you experienced many? What is it like? |

Nice puzzle! Thanks! I've never experienced an earthquake - have you experienced many? Oddly enough, the most notorious one I've ever experienced, I actually slept through. That would be the Loma Prieta quake, which took place during the 1989 World Series, the "Battle of the Bay" between the Oakland A's and San Francisco Giants. I was being a good little 4 year old and taking my nap when it happened, lol. What is it like? Depends on how strong it is. In yesterday's case, the house shook a bit, but nothing broke. My snowglobes slid toward me, nearly off the shelf over my head, but didn't quite fall, thankfully. A 4.1 isn't so bad. No one was hurt or killed. The '89 earthquake, by comparison, was a 6.9 (7.1 at the surface) and tore the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Bridge up a bit. 63 recorded deaths throughout Northern California, 3,757 injuries, and between 3,000-12,000 people were left homeless. And all through that, my mom says I never woke once...in fact, she had to snatch me out from under a potted plant hanging above me from the ceiling; it was swinging back and forth so violently she thought it was going to fall down on the couch I was sleeping on and squish me. I've been through dozens of quakes, but it still disturbs me that the worst one I remember is...well, the one I don't remember. :-P The Tech Museum of Innovation here in SJ has a seismic simulator that replicates earthquakes, so I've felt what it was like...it's very bouncy, lol. |
