As punishment for attempting to pubbo for money, Pixibelle was forced to pubbo for free. What is pubboing And why was Pixibelle punished for it? |

Is pubboing a crime? Is it a service? Is it something meant to be given freely? Done by a nonprofit organization, say? |

Did she get people to pay her for picking up trash? Which was illegal somehow? No, OTWT Was she picking up paper? Was she looking for littered money? No to both Note to clarify: You probably wouldn't think of what Pixibelle did as a crime, but theoretically she could be charged with a crime for the pubboing. Although I don't think it's likely, per the discussion that this is based on, it's certainly possible. |

Did she pubbo as a punksiment in the same place where she tried to pubbo for money? Did the pubbo the same type of trash both times? Did she actually succeed to pubbo for money? Would she get the money from: one person? Several people? A company or similar? Would it have been given willingly? |

Did she pubbo as a punksiment in the same place where she tried to pubbo for money? Irr, but unlikely Did the pubbo the same type of trash both times? Well, technically speaking "pubbo" refers to a specific kind of trash. So I suppose when she was being punished she would have been picking up the pubbo kind of trash as well as other kinds, but the other kinds aren't particularly relevant. Did she actually succeed to pubbo for money? DOYD of "succeed". Would she get the money from: one person? Several people? A company or similar? This is closest Would it have been given willingly? Yes, except possibly for extremely unusual svv of "willingly" |

Slight Blooper: I mentioned "21st Century USA". This would NOT work everyplace in the US. I don't know everyplace where it would/wouldn't work, but I do know it would work in the location where the hypothetical scenario was supposed to take place. Also, if you figure out the specific kind of trash involved in pubboing, you'll have this problem solved pretty soon thereafter. If you figure out a broad category for it, you'll have made a significant dent. |

Is pubboing exchanging recylable materials for the cash deposit refunds that can be obtained? Was Pixibelle taking cans/bottles from recyling containers? Is the criminal issue that she did not own the materials she was taking? Is it to do with WHERE she was taking them from? Was she charging people to take these materials away and then reselling them? |

Didn't see the above about bottles and cans. Did she pick up bottles/cans that were eligible for deposit? did she pick them up from somewhere relevant? Somewhere she wasn't supposed to? But it IS bottles and/or cans, yes? So - see Galfisk's Qs and I will add: Aluminum? The material which the bottles and cans is made from is irrelevant. And aluminum is metal last I checked. However, the type of bottle is relevant. So you're going about this the wrong way. |

Was someone else going to pick up the bottles? Did she deprive someone of money? If someone else had picked up the same bottles/cans, would they have committed a crime? Hmmm...exploring the type of bottle... Were the bottles empty when she took them? Were they all of a same type? Such as milk bottles? Prescription bottles? Does the crime have to do with something she discarded while getting the bottles? Something she saw? |

Omitting irrelevant questions ... Soda bottles? Beer bottles? Yes. And this is close enough really for a *****SPOILER**** As you know, next weekend (or possibly this weekend, everyone seems to be confused about it this year due to Easter) is "Spring Weekend" at UConn, aka "Everyone get drunk and go have crazy stupid parties and do stupid stuff and vandalize stuff and set other stuff on fire Weekend". So the RA's in my dorm called a meeting to discuss it. And they said that if you're under 21, you can't even possess alcohol even if you're just carrying it for a friend. I asked whether I could get in trouble if I went around the mornings after each wild crazy party night and collected the empty beer bottles and recycled them for money. They said that I "probably wouldn't" but that the cops might be jerks and arrest me for underage possession of alcohol paraphernalia. Which then made me wonder... Suppose they were to sentence me to community service, which under Connecticut Law is a permissible punishment for first time offenders. Would I then be forced to go around campus/Storrs and pick up trash, including alcohol bottles that I got arrested for picking up in the first place? In any case, I don't intend to test it out. But check out my new puzzle. |

This weekend at Elon is "Festivus," aka "Everyone Get Drunk and Roll Around in the Mud Weekend." Oh, and did I mention it's also Spring Orientation? Factoid: The book "Forbidden Knowledge: College" mentions UConn's Spring Weekend in its "Party School" section. Question: Is "pubbo" an acronym? "Picking up beer bottles..." something? Very clever idea for a puzzle! |

"Picking up beer bottles outside". And we used to have "Roll in the Mud Weekend" aka Oozeball, which is also involving volleyball, the same weekend as Spring Weekend, but now it's this weekend instead because the University moved all sanctioned Spring Weekend events to this weekend after someone got killed last year. Except that they moved the Spring Weekend concert at Gampel to last weekend because there's an open house today for admitted students and they're using Gampel to host stuff. Why they couldn't have made that last weekend is beyond me. Maybe they wanted the students to see oozeball so they'd choose UConn. I don't know. And then they didn't do it that weekend in previous years because they didn't want any of the prospectice admitted students to get attacked, raped, or killed. |

Oh, and Jasper Howard also apparently had something to do with the "menatoia" and "moratorium" on Spring Weekend, but I'm not entirely sure what. But basically, the University doesn't want us getting drunk and punching people in the head and killing them. But the partying will go on. Maybe slightly less this year because it's Easter Weekend, which will probably cause the University to say "we successfully deescalated Spring Weekend" and that they no longer need to continue their deescalating efforts, so it will be even crazier next year than it was last year. Mark my words. |
