If two vendors had not cooperated, it would probably not be sold that way today. |

Actually on second thought, "otherwise prepared" could get a Yes depending on what you meant. |

What kind of food is it: a salty/savory snack (e.g. a soft pretzel)? a sweet snack (e.g. cotton candy)? a dessert (e.g. pie, cake)? a main dish food item (e.g. a hot dog)? a side dish (e.g. an ear of corn, baked potato)? |

Shez's guess made me think of...eating ice cream out of a cone instead of a bowl? If it's nothing specific that we've guessed so far, is it pie? cake? cheesecake? ice cream? some form of fried dough with sugar (e.g. donuts, funnel cakes, elephant ears)? |

If it's nothing specific that we've guessed so far, is it pie? cake? cheesecake? ice cream? some form of fried dough with sugar (e.g. donuts, funnel cakes, elephant ears)? If anyone wants to take a stab at how the first ice cream cone was made, you may. Otherwise I will $p0il. |

Well, I know the story, so it's not really 'taking a stab at it'...I'd rather let the others have their fun, or else let you do it. I'm out of this, Biograd =) but it's been fun to watch! and...despite the early hour, I want ice cream now... |

What kind of cone is it - One of those yellowish ones that taste like sawdust (usually referred to as "cake cones" but I have no idea why, since they don't remotely resemble cake)? A sugar cone? A waffle cone? |

Shez, I just saw your question about elephant ears. Sorry I missed it earlier. They're a type of food you pretty much only see at fairs and carnivals. They're maybe hard to describe. Imagine maybe a large pancake, or maybe the crust of a small pizza, but fried and covered in powdered sugar. I don't think I've ever had one, but I've got to think they taste pretty similar to a funnel cake. They vaguely resemble real elephant ears, in that they're large, flat, and floppy, so I guess that's where the name comes from. |

thanks Noel my guess would be that the original product was the waffle and someone had the bright idea of wrapping it around something? |

Is a carnival or circus involved? No, but close. What kind of cone is it - One of those yellowish ones that taste like sawdust (usually referred to as "cake cones" but I have no idea why, since they don't remotely resemble cake)? A sugar cone? A waffle cone?Just the ice cream cone in general. my guess would be that the original product was the waffle and someone had the bright idea of wrapping it around something?Yesish. Where I originally saw this, it was something more exotic than a waffle, but many just call it that. *************SPOILER************************ One vendor was selling ice cream, the other was selling something like a waffle. The waffle-seller improvised a container for the ice cream when there were no more dishes available. You can read the story here: http://www.ideafinder.com/history/inventions/icecreamcone.htm |
