Does "suck", in this case, have a meaning other than being bad? Do the fans do the chant in every game? Or they do it in a certain situation only? When the player messed up something? Or when he played particularly well? Is the chant actually directed at the player? Or at a player of the opposite team bearing the same name? Is a pun involved? Is the player's name relevant? |

Is it someone on the women's basketball team? Yes - Maya Moore Does the specific sport matter? It could also work for men's basketball if the proper circumstances arose, however they did not and likely won't for a while. Also, if those circumstances had arisen this year, it still wouldn't have occurred in exactly the same way (i.e. one portion of the puzzle statement would be different). |

Is the chant inspired by something that she did on the court of play during a game? Or something done not on the court? Something done during a game, just not while she was on the court? Something done that doesn't involve basketball but is/was known by people who attend basketball games? |

Do the fans intend to tell her that she sucks? Or are they just teasing her? Is it some irony because she actually does so well? Is it a reference to something that happened earlier (like, maybe months or years before, not during the game)? When doing the chant, do the UConn fans put themselves into the opponent's place? Is her position relevant? If so, does she play *looks up basketball positions* ...center? ...small forward? ...power forward? ...point guard? ...shooting guard? Do the fans do the chant ...before the game starts? ...shortly after the beginning? ...near the end? ...after the end of the game? ...if the team wins? ...if the team loses? ...after she scored two points? ...after she scored three points? ...after she takes the ball from an opponent? ...after she makes a particularly impressive move? ...when she's involved in a foul? |

Do the fans intend to tell her that she sucks? Noish/yope Or are they just teasing her? No Is it some irony because she actually does so well? No, or at least not intentionally Is it a reference to something that happened earlier (like, maybe months or years before, not during the game)? No When doing the chant, do the UConn fans put themselves into the opponent's place? Is her position relevant? Yes If so, does she play *looks up basketball positions* ...center? ...small forward? ...power forward? ...point guard? ...shooting guard? Either forward would be possible, and I'm not sure women's basketball distinguishes much between small forward and power forward. However, at the same time, it could not happen to both forwards, at least not at the same game. Do the fans do the chant ...before the game starts? This, no to rest. Also, possible FA. ...shortly after the beginning? ...near the end? ...after the end of the game? ...if the team wins? ...if the team loses? ...after she scored two points? ...after she scored three points? ...after she takes the ball from an opponent? ...after she makes a particularly impressive move? ...when she's involved in a foul? I still sense an overlying FA here. |

Outside of a building in which a basketball game will be played? Is it somehow done online/over the internet? On blogs? It is only done at UConn games, typically home games (though not necessarily - it was done at the Final Four this year as well), which would be at either Gampel or XL Center. However, I feel that this answer could lead to an FA, and you probably already were making that FA when you asked it, so you might want to look into it further. |

Allright...so is it correct to assume that: fans chant this from the seats at home games? fans chant this prior to the start of a game? not all fans chant this? all fans chant this? this is chanted while Maya is standing on the basketball court? During the opening introductions as players run onto the court? Is the chant a response to something that is said about Moore? |

Yes, but you could be more specific not all fans chant this? all fans chant this? generally just the students this is chanted while Maya is standing on the basketball court? See below During the opening introductions as players run onto the court? I'm not sure what you mean by this. It's chanted during player introductions, but they're usually already physically on the court before they are introduced. However, the only relevant part is that it is during player introductions. Where the players are is irr that is said about Moore? No, with a slight -ish. Explore this. |

I wish I could clear up this FA. Am I wrong in assuming that UConn fans are the ones who say the word? Only some of them say it? That it's always said at the same time? Is the FA lurking because we're assuming that this chant is done repeatedly? If I were at a UConn game at the point where one or more people also at the game said "Sucks," would I only hear the word once? Is it said in a mocking way to complete a sentence (like if a player's name is announced and immediately after the last name is spoken the response is "sucks")? Is the word yelled out? Is it whispered? Is it spoken by portions of people at different times? Is it said aloud and pronounced normally? Or is it spoken aloud and drawn out, like "Suuuuuuuuuuuucks"? |

Is the FA related to the motive, or inspiration for the chant? Your answer above indicated that the word is yelled out as a response to a name. Is it in response to Maya Moore's name? Is there another player on the UConn team that is relevant at all to the chant? Maybe this is related to the FA - at a typical game, is the word yelled out only once? twice? three times? four times? Is there some factor which determines how many times the word is spoken? |

Is the FA related to the motive, or inspiration for the chant? Not really, but OTRT Your answer above indicated that the word is yelled out as a response to a name. Indeed Is it in response to Maya Moore's name? Noish, good question, explore this and you can clear up the FA Is there another player on the UConn team that is relevant at all to the chant? Not the UConn team, but ... Maybe this is related to the FA - at a typical game, is the word yelled out only once? twice? three times? four times? Six times at a typical game. And emphasis on "a typical game" Is there some factor which determines how many times the word is spoken? Not really, for the most part. At a typical game, it will be said six times. However, you should explore this to clear up the FA. And for the record, we do have a player whose name rhymes with "Suck". Heather Buck. However, as she is not a forward (and we have already accomplished that this is relevant) this would not work with her. |

Yes Is it ever done after the game is over? No Is it done only when a certain person is talking? See below... When a certain announcement is made to the fans? Yes, DOYD of "announcement". When they say it, it's usually referring to the opposing players and the coach. But not at a certain game (the one in this problem). Now find out why. Sorry, I probably gave away too much, but you wanted a hint, and I couldn't think of a smaller one that wouldn't be too small. |
