We have the number 17. We hate the digit "1" in that number. We add 3 to get 20. Voilą, we got rid of one. That's it, I suppose? |

And to avoid confusion, I was taught the relevant branch of science on physics classes, but in other countries it may be different. Balin: Is he mentioned in the Apocrypha? I don't know. It's not relevant. Vesica: Is he a prophet? No. A tribal leader? A leader, yes. Tribal - no. An advisor to a king? No. Is Daniel relevant? No. Just to check, there was one. Literally speaking, yes. FA. And to get rid of it, he added three. Yes. Making a total of four? NO! And they all disappeared? No. Old Testement? New Testement? The latter. The "yope" to the question about being mentioned in the Bible is significant. |

GalFisk: Is the calendar relevant? Did he change the calendar? Is he Julius Caesar? Introducing the Julian calendar? Yes to all. Shez: aaaargh! wasn't there a year where three months were missed out to get us back on track? I read that three months were added, but that's the idea :-) so would the "one" be a year? ********SPOILER********* In late Roman Republic, lunar calendar was regulated by priests, who often added or missed a few days for political reasons (elections). Year consisted of 12 months and every 19 years one additional month was added. Caesar wanted to get rid of this additional month (the "one" in the puzzle), but the calendar differed by 90 days from the actual seasons of the year. So, to get it back on track, the year 46 BC was three months longer. Thanks to everybody who played, and especially GalFisk and Shez for solving it. |
