I not only know the song, I started humming it after reading the puzzle title, and it's still stuck in my head. Should I examine the lyrics of "Molly Malone" in more depth to find hints to this puzzle? Or would that not be a fruitful line of inquiry? does it matter that it was a fish? Could Molly have just as easily been saved by a cheezburgur? =) (I had to ask) |

Did Molly ever realize that she was in any danger? Or did the fish somehow divert the murderer so that he/she never directly threatened Molly? So this fish had once been alive - had it died shortly before it somehow prevented Molly's death? Long before? Did Molly ever know that the fish existed? Was there more than one fish at any time? Had Molly ever seen the fish that saved her life? Is the fish the only factor in saving Molly's life? Or are other factors relevant? This all reminds me the line from the movie 'Ghost', said by Whoopi Goldberg's character Oda Mae: "Molly...you in danger, girl." |

Did the person think that Molly had hidden money in the freezer? No, but he hoped she had Had Molly ever actually hidden money in the freezer? No Was money ever put in the freezer unbeknowst to Molly? No Was Molly at her house when the person took the items out of the freezer? No... Or did she arrive home, smell fish, realize that someone had been there and may still be there? So she didn't go inside further, but went elsewhere to call the police? ...exactly. **********SPOILER********** A man broke into Molly's house and was searching for money. Knowing that some people keep money in the freezer, he searched there; finding nothing, he returned everything to the freezer. However, he missed a fish that had been in there. The burglar kept searching the house while the fish thawed and began to smell. When Molly came home, she smelled the fish and realized that someone had been in her house, so she left to call the police. As it happened, the burglar was still in the house and would have killed Molly if she hadn't smelled the fish and had wandered in on him. Bueno solve, everyone. New puzzle below, and someone wake up my other two ("Awareness isn't everything" and "Taking a chess break"), which haven't been posted on in a while. |
