Is it, in fact, the kind of game that can have a winner? and a loser? multiple winners in one 'game'? multiple losers in one 'game'? Does winning necessarily involve harm to others? |

"He was so good at playing (something else) that he never played baseball again"? "He was so good at playing baseball that he never played baseball again"? and being English I fear that if detailed knowledge of baseball is needed to solve, I may not be useful... |

So could the puzzle phrase have been "He was so good at playing Baseball that he never played (something else) again"? "He was so good at playing (something else) that he never played baseball again"? Could be said to apply... "He was so good at playing baseball that he never played baseball again"? But this is what was meant. and being English I fear that if detailed knowledge of baseball is needed to solve, I may not be useful... I think this could apply to cricket as well. |

Did he catch the grenade on purpose? Yes. To save others? To throw it back? This. *** Spoiler *** John Spillane, who would have played for the St. Louis Cardinals had World War Two not broken out, joined the Marines instead and served at the battle of Tarawa. Japanese soldiers tossed grenades into his boat. He caught them and threw them back until one exploded in his hand. |
