Based on a true story this one. It actually happened to my sister. A woman meets an old friend and asks her whether she enjoyed Rome. The friend responds "How on earth did you know I was in Rome we haven't spoken in ages? How did the woman know? |

Did she (the friend visiting Rome) used some Roman colloquialism? Relevant what she was wearing? Did she make a comment about something that was a hint to her friend that she was in Rome? Did she order some specific Roman dish in a restaurant? Are the habits of ordinary Romans relevant? |

"When in Rome, do as the Romans do" relevant? Did the woman know the friend had visited Rome before their conversation? Before they met? Did she figure it out during their conversation? During their meeting? Was there even any conversation before the question about Rome? Would the puzzle work for other Italian cities? |

When I read this puzzle, my immediate thought was something like after Laura travelled with an airline, they sent an ad to all of her friends on Facebook/email contacts that she used that airline to go to Rome. But it seems to have been debunked! Did Mary perform the action first and Laura after? Or the other way around? |

Mary took the same book from the library and it had Laura's ticket as a bookmark in it? Holy moley I'm impressed Amu......What a great shot. *************Spoiler************ As I said this actually happened to my sister. She borrowed a book from the library only to discover therein her friends boarding pass for a recent flight to Rome that was obviously used as a bookmark. The friend had a fairly uncommon name and given that we come from a small town it could only have been her. So my sister when she next saw Laura asked with total confidence whether she had enjoyed her trip to Rome. Quite a coincidence their both borrowing the same book without anyone else doing so in between. Thanks to all who played and kudos once again to Amu for the clinical kill |
