Was it something electronical? If so, was it damaged because the temperature was below its working temperature? Did it run out of battery? Was it physically damaged, ie. by falling to the ground? Because it had a special meaning for anyone? Because it was vital in the situation Jack and Carol were in? Did it contain any dangerous substance that was now set free? High voltage relevant?
