[IrishElk] Trick 'r Treat

Postby irishelk » Mon Oct 31, 2016 6:54 pm

Molly has a large yard that, each Halloween, she decorates extensively, complete with a fake dead man hanging high in a tree. One year she is walking around the yard, and happens to take a close look at the hanged man. She screams and runs inside to call the police. Why?

And no, this is not the (true) urban legend you're thinking of.

Does the relevant thing she sees involve the tree? The way the fake body is attached to the tree?

Was the fake body itself made of some different material than she thought it was? Did it have a hole/holes poked in it? Did it have some sort of hidden compartment/other space inside? Was something relevant written on it?

Had the relevant change to the body occurred while it was hanging there the year (i.e. halloween season) she noticed something was wrong? since she had taken it down the previous year? while it was up the previous year? earlier?

Did she make the fake body herself (e.g., out of fabric that she had sitting around)? or buy it? If you or I were to go to a store and see a fake body for sale with the out-of-place feature that she noticed, would we have reason to suspect the same kind of crime had been committed? would she? or was it only evidence of such a crime when it was seen under the circumstances she did (i.e. hanging on that tree)?

Was the fake body itself made of some different material than she thought it was? No. Did it have a hole/holes poked in it? Likely, yes. Did it have some sort of hidden compartment/other space inside? Yesish. Was something relevant written on it? No.

Had the relevant change to the body occurred while it was hanging there the year (i.e. Halloween season) she noticed something was wrong? No. since she had taken it down the previous year? while it was up the previous year? Thisish. earlier? And thisish, great question.

Did she make the fake body herself (e.g., out of fabric that she had sitting around)? or buy it? Irr, assume bought. If you or I were to go to a store and see a fake body for sale with the out-of-place feature that she noticed, would we have reason to suspect the same kind of crime had been committed? Not likely. would she? No. or was it only evidence of such a crime when it was seen under the circumstances she did (i.e. hanging on that tree)? Yes.

Was the item/items left there intentionally by someone? Did the woman know who specifically had left it there? Someone she knew? A stranger? A stranger that, by reasoning of the item left, she surmised was unsafe? Was it just the concept that someone had been trespassing on her property that was frightening?

The surveillance camera was hidden in the fake dead body, is that correct?

Would Molly to be killed just to get her "out of the way?" so her home could be accessed? her backyard?

Was the criminal looking for someone to murder? Was the camera intended to shiw the potential victim? Show if potential witnesses were nearby? Record the murder for posterity?

Was the criminal planning a murder? Possibly, unknown. Sorry this is confusing. Another crime is relevant that is yet to be discovered.

Break in? Robbery? Violence? None of these (other than the violence associated with murder).

Other crime: something that would benefit the criminal? Not materially, and FA lurking. Benefit Molly? No. Benefit someone else? No. Be bad for Molly? Yes. Bad for someone else? Possibly.

Would this crime involve: money? Valuables? People? Yesish. Smuggling? Evidence from other crimes? Law enforcement? Only in the sense that they might investigate it. No to rest.

Same FA lurking in all these q's.

The "more severe consequence":
Does the person lose a loved one? get some kind of disease (I would have said that was "physical injury", but I don't know if you included that)? lose a good reputation (I don't know if this is more severe than financial loss)? lose use of something that was rightfully theirs?

Does the person lose a loved one? get some kind of disease (I would have said that was "physical injury", but I don't know if you included that)? lose a good reputation Yes. (I don't know if this is more severe than financial loss)? Both likely occurred, but more to it than that. lose use of something that was rightfully theirs? No to rest.

******************************Sorely needed RECAP. I italicized things that still need figuring out.

Molly notices that the fake dead body in her yard has been altered. A video camera has been hidden inside it for the purpose of taking video of her in the yard. She has some idea that someone she knew put it there, exact relationship irr. Along with other circumstances, this signals danger to Molly and makes her fear for her life. The change to the body had been made the previous year.

At some point a crime occurred that involved murder, but was not murder. Molly was the victim. Another person in the neighborhood suffered indirectly from the crime in some way; this suffering involved loss of money and reputation. In the sense that a murder is involved, Molly prevents it at one point.

Does Molly have children? Relevant?
Did the camera show any other piece of land than Molly's backyard? Is there a relationship between Molly and the other person from the neighborhood?
Did the crime occur before the dead body was altered? Did the crime involve terrorism? Is this crime usually involved together with murder? If yes, does it happen before murder? After murder?

Does Molly have children? Yes! Relevant? Well, the story could go exactly the same without them, but let's stick them in.
Did the camera show any other piece of land than Molly's backyard? No. Is there a relationship between Molly and the other person from the neighborhood? Not pre-existing, but a relavant incident occurs between them
Did the crime occur before the dead body was altered? No, good q. Did the crime involve terrorism? DOYD of terrorism, but in a literal sense yes. Is this crime usually involved together with murder? It occurs both with and without an actual murder/ If yes, does it happen before murder? Yes, if there is a murder. After murder? No.

Was the other person in the neighborhood (the indirect victim) a witness to a crime? If so, was the criminal trying to intimidate that witness?

Was the camera put there in order to record conversation between Molly and that indirect victim? to determine if they were "onto" a criminal plot?

Did the crime involve Molly's child or children? Were children at home when Molly discovered the camera? Does Molly fear for her children's lives? Or wellbeing? Is the crime blackmail? Or some kind of threatening?
