Postby GalFisk » Sat Feb 25, 2017 9:08 am

I thought it was a root, until the public transport.

Homonyms/phones relevant?
Public Transport: Subway? Bus? Trolley? Train?
Did you think a vegetable (say, a cucumber) was the root of the plant until an incident showed you otherwise?

Root as in: plant root? A tree root? Root of an issue? Square root?
Until the public transport: arrived? Departed? Until you saw it? Heard it? Until the public transport system was implemented?

Until the public transport: arrived? Departed? No to both. Until you saw it? Yes, and... Heard it? No. Until the public transport system was implemented? No.

In your answer to Hobbsicle's "until you saw it?", were you taking "it" to refer to the root-thing, or to the bus?

Did the bus relevantly drive over what you thought was a root?

Is the relevant vegetable carrot? Celery? Potato? A fairly common vegetable?

Was the signage inside the bus? On the outside? Was it part of the thing that shows the route? Was it an ad?

So you did not merely see the bus, but you did see it. Were you doing maintenance on the bus? Some sort of similar work? Interacting with it in some way other than riding on it? (That sounds wrong, but I assure you I don't mean that question the way my brain thinks it sounds.)

Was the signage inside the bus? On the outside? This. Was it part of the thing that shows the route? Was it an ad? No to both.

So you did not merely see the bus, but you did see it. Correct. Were you doing maintenance on the bus? Some sort of similar work? No to both. Interacting with it in some way other than riding on it? DOYD of " interacting". (That sounds wrong, but I assure you I don't mean that question the way my brain thinks it sounds.) No worries.

Let me see if this order of things is correct:
You are driving a car and you see a bus?
Then you see a sign on the bus saying it uses butane?
Then you smell something?
Then you have a realization?

Was it a smell you had smelled before?
That you had previously attributed to carrots?
Until the bus rectified your misunderstanding?

Is the butane itself relevant? or something added to it?

I know that natural gas, which is mostly methane, is actually odorless--the "smell of natural gas" is actually the smell of a sulfur compound that is deliberately added to make it easier to smell leaks. I imagine that some people would compare this to certain vegetables/spices that also contain sulfur compounds, such as garlic, onions, or leek (a leak smelling like leek--that kind of fits haha). I don't know if this is also done with butane, but I imagine the smell of butane itself would likewise be very mild if there is any (aside from the smell of smoke if it's burning something).

Butane with added smell is involved, but I am not smelling the additive, nor am I smelling butane gas (which also has no smell of its own). I don't know if unodorized butane would give rise to the same smell or not.

Is the device one of those fuel cell / battery charger things? No.
Does the carrot serve as power or fuel? No. Is it solving a problem with the device? No, but the device would lose much of its point without it. Did you specifically bring carrots in order to use with the device? Yes. Or is it what you had on hand? No.

Could you use something other than carrots with the device? Another vegetable? Something inorganic?

Do you use the device to do a job or task? For recreational purposes?

Does the device do something to carrots? Or are carrots just needed to help the device do something?

What the device does to the carrot:
Cut it?
Mash it?
Carve it?
Spin it?
Burn it?
Freeze it?
Explode it?
Launch it?
Shoot it?
Turn it to gold?
Turn it to Winston Churchill?

Mash it?
Carve it?
Spin it?
Burn it? Possibly.
Freeze it?
Explode it? Sort of.
Launch it? Yes.
Shoot it? This.
Turn it to gold? I wish.
Turn it to Winston Churchill? Not that I'm aware of, haha!

Spoiler: I always thought the exhaust from my homemade butane-powered carrot cannon smelled of burnt carrots. Turns out it smelled of burnt butane.
Thanks for playing!
