[Konnie] We know what assumptions do.

Postby Konnie » Fri Mar 24, 2017 7:29 pm

There's a certain task my co-workers and I do daily. Although we all mostly use the same methods, there is one aspect a few of us do differently. There's not much of an advantage either way, but my coworkers are making an assumption about the customers with their method.
I suspect a quickie.

Is the task done as part of your work? Is it done at your workplace?

Do you work an office job? Retail? A trade (like plumbing or carpentry)?

Do you interact with customers face-to-face? Over the phone? By e-mail? Or do you not directly interact with them at all?
Could this assumption be considered negative? About their intelligence/common sense?

Could this assumption be considered negative? For the most part no, although I'm sure you could find a select few who might be insulted. About their intelligence/common sense? No

Is the assumption about the customers taste? No

Do you sell goods are your job? provide services? both? Both. I will say the 'service' is basically providing said goods.

Does the task involve interacting with customers? Fulfilling their requests? Does the customer see the task being done? See the effects of the task? Or is the task more internal? Does the result vary as the method varies? Or does it basically result in the same thing?

Does the task involve interacting with customers? No Fulfilling their requests? Noish, they don't specifically ask. Does the customer see the task being done? No See the effects of the task? Yes Or is the task more internal? Does the result vary as the method varies? Or does it basically result in the same thing? One small aspect is different, but most customers wouldn't notice if you didn't point it out.

So the customers patronize your business in order to receive a tangible item? Your job is to sell them this item, but possibly also to provide a bit of service in addition?

Are the items something you make? or have you in turn have bought them from someone else? Does the task (the subject of this puzzle, not the job as a whole) involve physically interacting with the items? or does it relate to processing payment? helping customers select which items to buy? interacting with the providers/producers of the items? with workplace organization?

Are the items something you make? Not me specifically, but they're mostly made in the building. or have you in turn have bought them from someone else? Does the task (the subject of this puzzle, not the job as a whole) involve physically interacting with the items? It does involve physically interacting with items, but not the items we sell. or does it relate to processing payment? No helping customers select which items to buy? Thisish interacting with the providers/producers of the items? No with workplace organization? Noish

Is the assumption incorrect? Are you delivering these items? Selling door-to-door? Or do the customers come to you?

Are the customers members of a particular industry? Is your business some sort of wholesaler? Does it provide supplies for assembly or use by the customers, or a finished product?

Are cosmetics relevant? perfume? No to both

Is the assumption incorrect? Sometimes. It is more often correct, but not always. Are you delivering these items? No Selling door-to-door? No Or do the customers come to you? This

Are the customers members of a particular industry? Is your business some sort of wholesaler? No to both. Does it provide supplies for assembly or use by the customers, or a finished product? Finished products.

HINT: I think we're vastly overcomplicating where I work. It's a very common job and you probably come to my type.of workplace a few times a month.

Are you a waiter? Cook? Do you ensure that certain foods are prepared a certain way instead of asking (ex. ice vs. no ice in drinks)? Do you bring condiments/extra napkins/other things without customers asking for them?

Is it a takeout restaurant? Sandwiches? Pizza? Do you automatically include something in an order? Automatically do something with an order? Add something? Ensure that it is not added? Delivery relevant?

Is it a takeout restaurant? You can order takeout, but this particular assumption can only be made about people dining in the restaurant. Sandwiches? Pizza? The exact food is irrelevant. Do you automatically include something in an order? Automatically do something with an order? Add something? Ensure that it is not added? Delivery relevant? No to these. We are 'nice something's bt not to the order.

Which of the following are relevant:
- The way the guests are greeted? The language used? The exact words or expressions used? (e.g. using a certain language or expression based on the skin colour of the guests)
- The specific guest being addressed? (e.g. addressing the man who looks like the head of the family)
- The location in which the guests are seated?
- The cutlery being presented to the guests? (e.g. chopsticks for Chinese guests)
- The complimentary beverages or dishes being served to the guests? The actual dishes being recommended to the guests?
- The method of billing the guests?
