[CoffeeBean] Lavender Angst

Postby CoffeeBean » Thu Jul 13, 2017 7:54 pm

Something is causing a girl to constantly argue and fight with her best friend. This same thing is causing the girl's father's hair to turn purple. What is this something?

This is a real-life situation, avoid $poiling if you recognize it...

Hi!

all humans? is this thing meant to paint? to dye? is the thing a tangible object?
If so, related to sport? Hobby Every day life? Is it a common object? Is it commonly sold? Can it be found in a store? is it something that can be used? If so on hairs? Can it be eaten? Drunk?

Does the thing cause also the girl to fight with her father? Does the girl fight with her best friend for the effects that the thing produces on her father?

causing the girl's father's hair to turn purple--> so that purple becomes the natural color of his hair?

Is the age of the girl relevant? The age of the father? Is the girl's best friend a human? Is the thing causing the father's hair to turn people over the same length of time that the girl and her friend are fighting? Is it relevant which started first, the fighting or the hair coloring changing? Would this puzzle work if the girl were a woman and her father similarly older?

Modern times? Geographic location relevant? Is blood/injury relevant?

The hair is turning purple due to poison? Venom? Disease? Genetics? Ingesting something? Sunlight? Hair dye? Bleaching? Others? Or is this non-literal? Wigs involved?

Is the something a substance? A situation? Iodine? Os the hair slowly turning purple? If so, over: years? Months? Weeks? Days? Hours? Does the father know it's turning purple? Is he okay with it turning purple? Is he making it turn purple? Are issues with color perception relevant? Issues with color reproduction? Such as a display going off color? A printer running out of a color? Is technology relevant? Is she using purple pens or crayons to draw her father's hair? Because the right color is not available? Because her friend is hogging, stealing or destroying it? Relevant what the arguments are about? Age of the girl relevant? Gender of the friend relevant?

Does the thing cause also the girl to fight with her father? At times, yes Does the girl fight with her best friend for the effects that the thing produces on her father? No

causing the girl's father's hair to turn purple--> so that purple becomes the natural color of his hair? Yes, at least it appears that his hair is naturally this color

Is the age of the girl relevant? The age of the father? Neither is very relevant
Is the girl's best friend a human? Yes
Is the thing causing the father's hair to turn people over the same length of time that the girl and her friend are fighting? Yes - good q
Is it relevant which started first, the fighting or the hair coloring changing? Safe to assume both happened around the same time
Would this puzzle work if the girl were a woman and her father similarly older? Yes

Modern times? Relatively modern, yes, within the last 40 years
Geographic location relevant? Yes Is blood/injury relevant? No

The hair is turning purple due to ...poison? Venom? Disease? Genetics? Ingesting something? Sunlight? Hair dye? ...this.Bleaching? Others? Or is this non-literal? It's literal Wigs involved? No

Is the something a substance? A situation? This Iodine? Is the hair slowly turning purple? DYOD of "slowly", but...If so, over: years? Months? Weeks? Days? Most likely this, over the course of a few days[/b ]Hours? [b]Maybe even this, depending on something that has not yet been discovered
Does the father know it's turning purple? Yes Is he okay with it turning purple? Not at all!
Is he making it turn purple? Not on purpose, but yes
Are issues with color perception relevant? Issues with color reproduction? No to both
Such as a display going off color? A printer running out of a color? No, wrong track
Is technology relevant? Only to a very minor degree, but this may be helpful
Is she using purple pens or crayons to draw her father's hair? Because the right color is not available? Because her friend is hogging, stealing or destroying it? No to all
Relevant what the arguments are about? They are about many different things, but no specific topic is relevant
Age of the girl relevant? Her exact age not really, but something about age(s) is relevant here Gender of the friend relevant? Only relevant so far as understanding that she and the primary girl in the puzzle are both girls and are good friends (as opposed to this being a romantic relationship between a girl and a boy)

Is the father unknowingly dyeing his own hair, perhaps because of mistaking the hair dye as shampoo?
Are the girls arguing over the misplacing of this hair dye?

If he is purposefully dyeing it, is he then mistaken about the colour that should result from the dyeing? (e.g. purple dye in a brown bottle)
Or is something causing the dye colour to change? If so, is a physical, chemical, or biological reaction taking place to cause the dye colour to change? (e.g. the dye is indeed brown, but reacts with heat/shampoo to turn purple)

No, but...
Or is something causing the dye colour to change? ...yes (this clears up the FA about what he's mistaken about)

(e.g. the dye is indeed brown, but reacts with heat/shampoo to turn purple)...it is a reaction with something, yes

Does his father have relevant habits? Are only his hairs to be turned purple or also hairs of other people? Are allergies relevant? Is his father's job relevant? Is her best friend's job?Is she hairdresser?

Does the dye react with something the father is using? Something the daughter or daughter's friend is using? Has he used this dye in the past with no ill effects?
Is the friend also angry with the daughter? Or with the father?

Hello, long time no see CB! Hello to you as well!

Is the setting of the puzzle in <LTPF list of continents?> It's in the USA

Is the mother of the girl (can we call her Lavender?) relevant? is she involved in this? Her presence is somewhat relevant in discovering the solution, but she is not directly involved in either of the main situations mentioned in the puzzle statement

Is Lavenders friend directly interacting with the father? N/R

Are all of his hairs turning purple? Well enough of them so that the effect is very noticeable
Would the puzzle still be valid if just a lock of his hairs turned purple? Or turned green? Sure

Does his father have relevant habits? Yes
Are only his hairs to be turned purple or also hairs of other people? Only his
Are allergies relevant? No
Is his father's job relevant? You mean her father's job? Yes, it is relevant.
Is her best friend's job? Yes, but... Is she hairdresser? ...no

Does the dye react with something the father is using? No, the dye reacts with something else
Something the daughter or daughter's friend is using? No
Has he used this dye in the past NO, he hasn't... with no ill effects? ...so he's never realized that it could have this ill effect - good q
Is the friend also angry with the daughter? Yes and no (explore) Or with the father? The friend does not interact with the father to any relevant degree

Does the dye react with the hair itself? Yes, but another thing must be present too
With a substance No, not substance... the father puts in the hair? ...and it doesn't get "put in" the hair but you are OTRT
If so, on purpose? He doesn't purposefully cause this reaction, no
A substance No... that gets into the hair without his help? ...but he has no active part in this part of the reaction
A gas? No but close
Is the girl arguing because her mood is affected YES, but... by a substance? ...not by any substance
Does the father want to dye his hair another color? Black? Likely dark brown. The exact color he wants isn't relevant.

Is the dye changed in color by some environmental condition? such as temperature or humidity? For example, maybe he sometimes blow-dries the hair, and the hot air from the dryer causes the dye to change color?

Is the dye changed in color by some environmental condition? Yes but "condition" may mislead you slightly
such as temperature or humidity? Not these
