GalFisk:
When the caption was vandalized, was his name changed from Standing to Sitting? no, not this Were words added to the caption? yes Removed? no Replaced? no Was the caption changed entirely? no Did the pun mention the word sitting? yes Standing? only as his name Would it still be a pun if it didn't accompany the image of him sitting? yes but it would make more sense in context of the image
wolfier:
was the caption something like, "Standing, [some context]" then, and people who tried to make a pun out of it changed it to "Standing, Sitting [some context]"? yes, though mostly without the extra context People who thinks the edit was unnecessary went and removed the "sitting" until someone stopped it by cropping the picture? yes, exactly!
--- SPOILER ---
The Wikipedia page for economist Guy Standing used to have a picture of him sitting on a chair, which made someone change the caption of the picture (which used to be just his name) to "Guy Standing sitting" as a joke. This would usually quickly be changed back to just his name by people who felt the joke was unnecessary and not appropiate for the wiki, and there would be edit wars and discussions about whether to keep the joke (it's still descriptive of the picture since it's literally him sitting and just a harmless bit of humor) or remove it (the joke is unnecessary and unfunny, not appropiate for a wikipedia article), and the page even got edit protected a few timed. There were suggestions to change the picture just to stop the jokes, which made someone crop the photo so the chair is no longer visible - which is the current photo.
