Silence: no response? No transmission? No reception? Hearing protection? Noise cancellation? Malfunction? No power? No life? No alarm? A sound ceasing? Not starting? Is a specific noise absent? Was a noise expected? Suspected?
Standing clear=deliberately keeping out of an area, normally because something dangerous is about to be done there. Such as not touching someone being defibrillated, or keeping out of a bomb range in preparation for an explosion.

Was the dog's ability as a guard dog tested? Did it turn out not to be a very good guard dog? Was it somehow prevented from guarding the object? Did the thief do something to silence the dog? Did the dog know the thief and therefore not react? Was the object stolen in a way the dog would not react to?

$POILER
This is taken from Silver Blaze, a Sherlock Holmes story...the kikler had stolen an horse by the stall guard by a dog to run away. Scherlock, which was present when the horse had been stolen, however, remembered that the dog did not bark. Hence he supposed that the dog should have known the killer...

Thanks anyone for playing and in particular congrats to Glafisk for the solution and wolfier for the many questions. Jope you enjoyed
