[IrishElk] Baby Driver {ESCAPED}

Postby irishelk » Wed Jul 18, 2018 6:24 pm

A team of robbers enter a bank lobby and begin ordering everyone down on the floor.
They ask two employees to gather up all the cash on the premises. They ask a third employee to pull out a large number of files, from a self-audit the bank performed a couple of years ago. Once all this is done, they grab the cash and make a getaway, leaving the files sitting on the floor of the lobby. So why did they ask for them?

starting with the obvious: did the team of robbers want people to mistake someone else for them? has anyone in the team of robbers ever been an employee of the bank?

starting with the obvious Always a good idea.: did the team of robbers want people to mistake someone else for them? No. has anyone in the team of robbers ever been an employee of the bank? No.

Did they take anything out of the files? Relevant how many robbers there are? If so, 2? 3? 4? 5? More? Do they forge any documents? Do they injure or kill anyone? Did they threaten to expose something written in the files if the money isn't handed over? Do they intend to leave the files there? Would it work if the files were left elsewhere within the bank?

Are the robbers interested in distracting the third employee or creating a diversion? Are the three employees the only ones there? Are they trying to falsify evidence or suggest something other than a robbery happened? Are they trying to make the witness reports less believable/reliable by adding the unlikely and confounding detail of the files? Do they anticipate that the crime scene will be investigated and the audit records discovered? Are they relevantly scattered around the place or left in a tidy pile on the floor? Is the content of the files relevant?

Is it relevant where the third employee had to go/what he had to do to obtain the files? Are the customers relevant?

Did the robbers read, photograph, note or in any way acknowledge the files once they were obtained?

Did they take anything out of the files? No. Relevant how many robbers there are? No, let's say two. If so, 2? 3? 4? 5? More? Do they forge any documents? No. Do they injure or kill anyone? No. Did they threaten to expose something written in the files if the money isn't handed over? No. Do they intend to leave the files there? Yes. Would it work if the files were left elsewhere within the bank? Yes.

WiZ

Are the robbers interested in distracting the third employee or creating a diversion? Good thought, but no. Are the three employees the only ones there? The only relevant ones. Are they trying to falsify evidence or suggest something other than a robbery happened? No. Are they trying to make the witness reports less believable/reliable by adding the unlikely and confounding detail of the files? No. Do they anticipate that the crime scene will be investigated and the audit records discovered? No/Irr. Are they relevantly scattered around the place or left in a tidy pile on the floor? Yesish, neither of those exactly. Is the content of the files relevant? No.

Is it relevant where the third employee had to go/what he had to do to obtain the files? Yes, largely what he did. Are the customers relevant? No.

Did the robbers read, photograph, note or in any way acknowledge the files once they were obtained? No.

wolfier

did they want the files to cover something? No. did they also relevantly leave some of the cash on the ground? No. would the puzzle work if there was only 1 robber instead of a team? Yes.

Was the motivation for asking for the files to increase the proceeds of the robbery or to reduce the possibility of being caught?

Were the files held in a secure place ? Were the visible from the customer side of the counter? Do the robbers possess some insider knowledge of the bank's audit? the premises? security procedures?

Is there something embarrassing for the bank in the files?

does it need to be a bank and bank notes? would "robbers entered a McDonalds and demand all the burgers...and a large number of invoice from a few years ago...they took all the burgers and left the papers on the ground" still work in this puzzle?

did the robbers ask for a specific audit? could other audits work? how about other types of documents?
does certain security device needs to be disabled for the documents to be retrieved?

Was the motivation for asking for the files to increase the proceeds of the robbery No. or to reduce the possibility of being caught? Quite possibly.

Were the files held in a secure place ? No. Were the visible from the customer side of the counter? Yes. Do the robbers possess some insider knowledge of the bank's audit? No. the premises? Yesish--"knowledge," but not very "insider." security procedures? No.

Is there something embarrassing for the bank in the files? Irr.

android18

Was it made to look like the files were dropped accidentally? No. Were one of the employees working with the robbers? No.

wwhere

Did the robbers specifically ask for those self-audit files? No, good question. Could any other files have served the same purpose? Noish. Did they set fire to the files? No.

wolfier

does it need to be a bank and bank notes? No, certain other businesses would work. would "robbers entered a McDonalds and demand all the burgers...and a large number of invoice from a few years ago...they took all the burgers and left the papers on the ground" still work in this puzzle? Unlikely, but possible given certain circumstances [b][i]No.

did the robbers ask for a specific audit? No. could other audits work? how about other types of documents? Hard to answer--in these exact circumstances they could only ask for these files, but yes, other documents could take their place.
does certain security device needs to be disabled for the documents to be retrieved? No.

Does it benefit the robbers when: they are in the bank? They exit the bank? They make their getaway? When tge bank raises the alarm? When investigators are at the bank? When the robbers use their gains? When they commit other robberies?

About the papers, and how the robbers ask for them (given that they didn't ask for "the audit papers")
Is the color of the audit files important? Did they ask, for example, for "those green papers there"? (or something similar)
Was the amount of paper important? Did they ask, for example, for "that big pile of papers there"? (or something similar)

Does it benefit the robbers when: they are in the bank? This is the relevant time, but... They exit the bank? They make their getaway? When tge bank raises the alarm? When investigators are at the bank? When the robbers use their gains? When they commit other robberies? ...technically, no to all. Explore.

Was the third employee in a special position that only that person was asked to retrieve the documents?

is a delay in time relevant here, e.g. are those documents far away from the alarm button so it would buy the robbers time to collect the cash?

Did the robbers interact with the files in any way? Is there anything unusual about the robbers physically? Are they dressed as you'd expect bank robbers to be i.e. masked? are they armed? Do the bank staff realise they're being robbed? Or are they being tricked into handing over the money?

Oh, just had a better idea: were the filed used to keep a door opened blocking a photoelectric sensor?

Were any of the three bank employees in cahoots with the robbers?

Did the robbers think that asking for the files would benefit them?

Could the robbers see the files from where they were? Did they describe the files by location? Physical appearance? Contents? Could the employee have fetched any different files and still have been complying with the robbers' demand?

Are the files physical paper files? Electronic files? If so, on a memory stick? Disc? Hard drive?

Did they obtain some relevant information in the process of them asking for, the employee getting, and the dropping of, the files? Does the third employee relevantly interact with one or both of the other two? Is anyone in this puzzle differently-abled? Is one or more of the robbers blind?

Is it relevant exactly how they asked for the files? Not specifically, but there is something left to discover about the files which would be included in their request. Were the robbers expecting the bank employees to do something specific with the files after the robbers left? Expecting the police to do something with them?

Were they attempting to defeat some type of device that would allow the money to be traced (e.g. dye, GPS, etc.)? Did they think having the money in a box would prevent a tracking device from working properly? possibly the boxes were metal and would block a radio signal?

**********************RECAP

A team of robbers enter a bank lobby and begin ordering everyone down on the floor.
They ask two employees to gather up all the cash on the premises. They ask a third employee to pull out a large number of files, from a self-audit the bank performed a couple of years ago. Once all this is done, they grab the cash and make a getaway, leaving the files sitting on the floor of the lobby. So why did they ask for them?

None of the robbers were employees, and the files were visible to any customer.
The files are in boxes.
The robbers did not look at any of the paperwork--the contents of the files are irrelevant. They never planned to take the files with them.
Their actions might have reduced the possibility of getting caught, but they did not do all that they planned.
Nothing is hidden in or behind the boxes. Their weight is relevant.
They are not using the boxes of files as cover, to hide something, or to block the police's path into the bank--however, this is all OTRT.

Is the weight of the boxes relevant to the robbers while the robbers are in the bank? Once they have left it? Do the boxes hold something down? Is accessing the bank from underground relevant? Or from the floor below, if the bank is not at ground level? Is the bank at ground level?

Are any characteristics of the building relevant? Does this have anything to do with weight distribution? So that something (the building itself?) doesn’t collapse/fall during or after the robbery? Or so that it does?

Do the robbers make their getaway the same method that they enter the bank by?

Is the weight of the boxes relevant to the robbers while the robbers are in the bank? At one point, yes. Once they have left it? No. Do the boxes hold something down? Yope. Is accessing the bank from underground relevant? Or from the floor below, if the bank is not at ground level? No. Is the bank at ground level? Yes.

Are any characteristics of the building relevant? Yes. Does this have anything to do with weight distribution? Noish, DOYD. So that something (the building itself?) doesn’t collapse/fall during or after the robbery? Or so that it does? No to rest.

Do the robbers make their getaway the same method that they enter the bank by? Irr.

Would other items of the same or similar weight work as well as the files? Is it relevant that the files are made of paper? Are the files set on fire?

Friction of the boxes against the floor relevant? Weight of them while being carried? Are they especially heavy? Light? Sound of putting them down relevant? Are there any relevant sensors? Are the boxes meant to fool someone that the robbers are still present, when they have left?

Is there something unusual about the building? Is it relevant what it is made of? Whether there are any stairs/ramps/elevators? Did it previously House something other than a bank? Is belief in the supernatural relevant?

Is the bank’s location relevant? If so, in terms of city? Country? Small town vs. large city? Where it is in its city? Any relevant businesses nearby? Buildings? Geographical features? Are earthquakes relevant? Do they plan to do something that will cause the walls or floors to rattle?

Were the boxes with the files in a shelf or cabinet?
Did it have wheels? Were they trying to use the thing to escape?

Do they put something on the shelf? Attach something to it? Put the shelf by the window? Do they want people outside to see the shelf through the window? To see what they attach to the shelf (if anything)? Do they want to block police line of sight? Are police procedures for dealing with a hostage situation relevant?

Is the shelf attached to the wall? Or free-standing? Do they pick the shelf up? Is the shelf cabinet-like in that it has a roof and sides? Or is it just a flat board?
You mentioned 'foiling people' before.... foiling the police?
Are they worried that the police might enter through the windows? that the police might shoot through the windows?

Are they worried that the police might enter through the windows? that the police might shoot through the windows? You got it. Nice team solve!

**********************SPOILER

The robbers, concerned that the robbery might turn into a hostage situation, plan to move a large bookshelf in front of the street-facing windows to block possible police entry/gunfire. They have previously cased the bank, and noticed that there are heavy-looking boxes of files stacked on the shelves. So as soon as they break in, they instruct one victim to start pulling the boxes out to the lobby floor, so they can move the shelves.

Fortunately for Our Villains, they are able to empty the safe before the cops show up, so they skedaddle without moving the shelf.
