[wolfier] Look, mom [FINED]

Postby wolfier » Sun Sep 02, 2018 12:27 pm

Back from a week-long absence and with a new puzzle.

Little Johnny points to his mom one of her favourite objects. However as soon as she saw it, she turned from very upbeat to very nervous.

(edit: minor wording mistake)

Does he point to the object, or to his mum? Or does he point the object AT his mum?
Is the object functional, decorative, other? Is it inherently dangerous, e.g, a gun?
Relevant the age, size, colour of the object?

Is something wrong with her favorite object? Does its presence imply something bad for the mother?

Is her favorite object considered technology? Is it a car? A form of transportation? A house? Another building? Is it alive? Is it considered a practical item or a purely aesthetic one?

Was the favourite object specific (eg. "Look mum, there's the car that you sold last year") or general (eg. "Look mum, there's a Volkswagen Beetle, your favourite type of car")?

Is it a camera? Perhaps his mum is a keen photographer and loves cameras, but then Johnny points out some hidden surveillance cameras that have been tracking their every move? (Although you did say the object was big, so maybe not...)

Are they indoors at the time? If so, in their own home? someone else's home? a school? theatre? shopping centre? office? hospital? clinic? Outdoors? Are they alone at the time?

Are Johnny and Mum in danger? Did Mum not expect to see the object there? Is it illegal for that object to be there?

Prior to seeing the object, was Johnny's mum upbeat for a specific, relevant reason? Were they in the middle of doing something? about to do something?

Technology:
Is it a consumer good? something normally found in a home? in an office? in a medical facility? in a factory? in a laboratory?
Is it normally used for entertainment purposes? for convenience? social purposes? does it produce anything? food/drink related?

jumpingjacks wrote:Is it a camera? YES, wow, that's the lateral jump of the day Perhaps his mum is a keen photographer and loves cameras YES , but then Johnny points out some hidden surveillance cameras that have been tracking their every move? (Although you did say the object was big, so maybe not...) But not this

Are they indoors at the time? If so, in their own home? someone else's home? a school? theatre? shopping centre? office? hospital? clinic? Outdoors? Are they alone at the time? Outdoors, alone or not, irrel. No to rest.

Are Johnny and Mum in danger? No but...Did Mum not expect to see the object there?Yes Is it illegal for that object to be there? No

Prior to seeing the object, was Johnny's mum upbeat for a specific, relevant reason? Only slightly relevant, but the most important aspect is that she's not nervous. Were they in the middle of doing something? Yes about to do something? No

Technology:
Is it a consumer good? something normally found in a home? in an office? in a medical facility? in a factory? in a laboratory?
Is it normally used for entertainment purposes? for convenience? social purposes? does it produce anything? food/drink related? Camera as you have correctly guessed

Yay!

Is the camera taking pictures of Mum? of Johnny? both? Is it recording video? Is it attached to a human? a HAM? Or is the camera just standing there? On a tripod perhaps?

No to all, there's an FA which is difficult to explain. Hint: What little Johnny saw was a camera, yet...

Camera for taking photos? Taking videos?
Is it a working camera? Is it in a place where there should normally be a camera? Should normally be no camera?
Are they in public? In their own home?

What little Johnny saw was a camera, yet...

yet.... was not really a camera? Didn't look like a camera? Did Johnny know it was a camera when he pointed at it? Was it a camera that was disguised as something else? Is Johnny also nervous? Did he point at it in a happy manner? a worried manner? Did he expect his mum to be glad? to be nervous? to be interested?

Balin

Camera for taking photos? Taking videos? Can be either
Is it a working camera? What Johnny points to? No. Is it in a place where there should normally be a camera? It is in a place where there should normally be a camera in the vicinity. Should normally be no camera? No
Are they in public? Yes In their own home? No

jumpingjacks

What little Johnny saw was a camera, yet...

yet.... was not really a camera? Camera comes to mind immediately upon seeing what little Johnny points, and indeed the favourite object of the mom is a camera. However, what little Johnny points to is not physically a camera. Didn't look like a camera? It does Did Johnny know it was a camera when he pointed at it? Yes Was it a camera that was disguised as something else? No Is Johnny also nervous? No because he's a child Did he point at it in a happy manner? Irrel but assume this a worried manner? Definitely notDid he expect his mum to be glad? to be nervous? to be interested? He expects his mom to be glad or at least interested

Is it a picture of a camera? A camera symbol? Is a speed trap relevant? Surveillance? Is Mom worried that photos or video of them is/has been captured?

Is this present day, on Earth? (list of countries)? Is it a weapon? Something dangerous? Re its camera-like appearance: does it have, or appear to have, a lens? A box-shape? is it being held by someone? Is its location or placement relevant? Is his mum worried about what it means, or what it being there means, or what will or may happen next/soon? Will she do something as a response to having seen the object?

GalFisk

Is it a picture of a camera? Exactly A camera symbol? thus yes Is a speed trap relevant? Yup Surveillance? Is Mom worried that photos or video of them is/has been captured? Yes

*** SPOILER ***
Johnny's riding in mom's car, mommy is speeding at 30% over the limit. Johnny points to a newly erected big warning sign with a picture of a camera on it, "mom look it's a camera!". Mom nervously eases off her right foot, hoping a picture hasn't been taken yet.

Congrats to GalFisk for the quick solve and thanks all for playing!
